  1. If I had the choice to start all over again I would start with italy first. Knowing i wouldn't just stop at one Combat Mission title and would eventually get the other. Mostly due to the advancement of German hand held antitank weapons. Its difficult to go back in time. The game content is pretty much equal for the stock games. For chronological reasons go italy first, but hey that's just me.
  2. Well the German's seemed to have liked it enough to incorporate captured stock into their system.
  3. Until she recognizes one of the Ensigns is actually Bon Jovi and then you have your love triangle. But don't worry he gets killed off pretty early.
  4. thinkin its you in this case:) Did you have problems or tried scenarios using bridges before? I can get my guys to do backflips across the bridge before they are vapourized.
  5. I saw a 75IG that could not get elevation on an indirect and was hitting a building 3 tiles infront. Is it possible something is catching the rounds very close to gun like a tree or 3 story building?
  6. Another don't forget about the troops pic. CM has great detail in that regard and the animations now are much more natural.
  7. The film lost credibility by having the M3 come out on top over the Tommy... The Thompson is an expensive precision manufactured weapon. To sum up has so much more going for it over the grease gun. Not saying the M3 was bad smg. But if soldiers were given a choice. So this was propaganda for sure, trying to sell the M3 concept over the thompson to the recruits. Simple economics.
  8. Hmmm, this may be one of those coincidental misperceptions. Airborne recon platoons have alot of 30 cal teams. I had one such 30 call team sneak into position and take a 50mm pak head on at 200m. The short of it is, the gun was suppressed, and any crew that stuck its head above the gun shield was nailed in the long bursts. The last 2 crew abandoned gun and cowered. They have their moments, they aren't lazers like the mg42 but I think they are modelled OK.
  9. Some Spoilers about this murky situation: The Rangers get a late mortar reinforcement because they start with bazookas, which provides an advantage against the Italians especially if holed up in buildings. To me the rangers have the advantage in weapons, the Italians have Brixia right off so its debatable. HT versus tankette, BAR's.... These units are operating independantly, and competing for control of a sector. Think of it as a fighting patrol or a combat patrol at its destination leg, not a reconnaissance. Its listed as a meeting engagement. The enemy is doing the same thing you are. The objective IS the sector, not a spot on the map. Well, the sector is divided in half actually. The one who solely occupies and clears the sector gets the points. Own half the map. Get half the points. Also the one who inflicts more than 65% casualties also gets the points. Its easy to get a draw because occupation points can be nullified by camped out enemy fragments, so it forces the player to be thorough. Should you truly inflict heavy casualties on your opponent while staying under 65% yourself, then this should break the draw.
  10. There's a series "greatest tank battles" that has been playing for a while now on the History channel. The episode for Kursk has a brief interview with a german vet who stated when their tank was disabled in the melee they dismounted with statchel charges and took up the fight on foot. Perhaps the context is lost in translation with these documentaries but thats what he said.
  11. John Dillinger had bad luck with the BAR. He wanted to acquire some military firepower for his gang and got it hands on a couple BAR's. They tried to use them like the trench sweeping 50 round Tommy guns he was used to, but quickly found out the 20 round box mag doesn't last when you hold the trigger and fire 20 round bursts. And with such handling halfway through the second mag the BAR will surely jam.
  12. These were significantly reduced in number and almost non existent by July 1943. Except for the shorter grenade launcher version of the pzb39 maybe.
  13. If there are AT guns present, a tank rush will likely not work, and you'll lose the initiative. Move out quickly by bounds. Know the safe zones so you can take a breather. And sometimes you just gotta send that jeep driver out for a looksy.
  14. I haven't exploded the files yet to have a look. But I'm thinking the map and shaders files from the existing skins would just be re-used and renamed with any new modded BMPs as the creases and crannies would be in the same place anyways.
  15. Yeah I bet they had some vet advisors, right down to the grunt angrily motioning the camera man to get the hell out of the way. The weapon reloading was choreographed well. Small details like that.
  16. Nato vs Warsaw pact 1980ish. I'm probably in the minority but always put it out there anyways. sigh, Never get a CMFG (Fulda Gap). Well Mr Reagan tried I guess. Its just the forces and weapons platforms were very closely matched in those days, 105mm Abrahms vs the new T 80. Who had body armour then.
  17. Just want to mention..... consider also if the scenario is meant to be played either side vs AI. If so, then those units that are placed outside of the map setup zone will be exactly where you left them, possibly outside of the SUZ and the player will not be able to reposition them before hitting the start button. AND.... AI Set up locations prior to order1 must be somewhere in the SUZ. when the AI is deploying otherwise he will move straight to order1 location from where the unit was placed if outside of the SUZ.
  18. What about the second panzerschrek on the grassy knoll theory.
  19. being a fan of the Fringe I could picture walter saying something like that.
  20. I had a breach team ordered to quick move across a bridge to a building and blow a hole in the side of it. One guy got to the building but the other was way separated and 100m back. Not sure if he got shot at or why. The odd thing is the guy at the building started to plant the charge but the explosion occurred at the location of the other guy across the river.
  21. It is possible to make shallow river banks but it takes alot of trial. Change the elevation value of the water tile to 2 or 3 higher than the adjacent land tile. You do get some water corners clipping out and you can get rid of those by playing with elevations to the tile adjacent to the land tile. Also, if you don't mind a really wide river, putting a ford tile outside of a deep water tile, and playing with the elevations as stated above will also create bank-less river edges.
  22. Another thought, you could lower the attributes of the panther crew. After the shermans get the first shots off the adverse effects of delay, and retreat may work to the underdog's advantage. Also panther crews were green in Normandy. In addition A piat crew prepositioned to crawl forward to the panther may distract it long enough for second salvo from the sherms. pre emptive AI smoke on top of the panther, even from a single on map mortar could further aid the allies and cause a temp delay in LOS. Lastly, maybe add a third AI sherman as a separate AI group and have it maneuver in a wide hook to get a side shot at the panther.
  23. Great idea. Should be considered one of those unwritten rules for map design.
  24. I cloned out the horizon mountains and the sillouette of everything I removed still appeared. So what renders the tan area invisible and how would I make this whole block invisible?
