  1. Great threat to low flying aircraft these Shorads, gone are gun runs and dump bomb drops... Would love to use JTAC to designate a point attack for an f-16 though once CMBS is out, something like DEAD from the ground perspective.
  2. dan/Luke/Raptor, well hey I'm just voicing my thoughts. As awesome as the story is and reminds me a lot of Team Yankee, isn't the focus here to BEAT BILL instead of umm.. writing a good novel?!?! If it were a single player DAR it would be more than cool to zone out and fantasize a storyline, but in this case I think it dilutes the real mission objective! Bottom line: I'm always rooting for the underdog, really hoping it's not just a repeat of the CMRT beta AAR. Haven't you heard that hardcore wargamers trump the real guys in wargaming? Dangerous start here, dangerous
  3. pnzrldr why the story? You know it's a fight against Bill in a virtual arena set by CMBS, not the real russians in Ukraine... i think atm the story fails to immerse me and it just reads weird:confused:
  4. hey apparently this book named "the Three-body Problem" is being translated and sold in the US. mentioning this as I just saw Interstellar and notice quite a few similarities.
  5. Looking forward to this one. New tactics, new toys at work... oughtta be a great demonstration.
  6. tbh I don't even find it that offensive after feeling the atmo in the whole thread. Nothing one haven't heard of in some bars even. But sure like it that BF upholds the forum in quality standards:o Something of a rarity on the interwebs these days I reckon.
  7. Yea:o Early memory of land warfare consisted an M1 abrams roaring across the desert leaving huge dust trail in its wake, a tingling up your spine feeling deeply marked in brain. So... to hell went those trees and whatnot. But I later found CMSF and all's well:D
  8. OK mate, good to know. Another reason it's just 2 or 3 ppl shouting for more campaigns in these foras I suppose.
  9. hey someone actually used my upload... i'm surprised coz it's almost forgotten this one......... the problem with the ScanCaDe tool, or BFC's campaign file format rather, is that the core units file cannot be extracted. So editing an existing campaign and putting it back together requires a lotta work, including making a core file and re-importing/re-deploying the core units in each scenario. so it's not as simple as one'd thought at first glance. However if ya just wanna enable H2H in the campaign script, hex editing is the better way to go.... can someone maybe confirm this since i don't play H2H myself. CM manual says the campaign file is encrypted so cheating was not an option during H2H campaign play. If H2H campaign doesn't work in the first place there'd be no point to any of this.
  10. they must'a been back to the future to have seen them ukranian cannon toting pickups....
  11. I'd rather buy them. Making them seems more like a job than a hobby tbh. Not the skill, those can be mastered. But the time required... Few months ago I converted a few campaigns in CMSF. Converted.. far from made from scratch at all. Yet it's more like 4 days of editing time, 3 days of actual play time. Not really worth the effort come to think of it. And the replay value of them campaigns... ehh not so much come to think of it. I'd rather work at my day job, earn some extra cash and then let the scenario designers take care of them. Let pros be pros, me at mine and he at his, seems more feasible way of allocating different ppl's resources... edit: oh and I'd prefer lengthy campaigns. My biggest gripe with the WW2 CM titles recently -- slapping 5 scenarios together and... voila there's a campaign for ya! Hell in CMSF the campaigns are some 15 to 20 scenarios long. Can't help but wonder, the price remains but the actual content is shrinking over the years, in the less visible ways. Being a pretty dedicated wargamer I don't mind the prices tbh as I spend most of my extra cash on these stuff, but the content has to be good...
  12. I'm actually liking this thread. Most forums I visit don't condone politics discussions but this one is somewhat educative for me even. I know Steve is mostly referring to the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany but surprisingly it's not much different from the place where i'm at... I think... you're only seeing "capitalism is money" as an outsider. From my understanding, at its core it encourages individualism, or what I'd like to call "subconsciously everyone likes to play god". Yes, maybe humans are flawed like that, and therefore you need a political system to cater to that flaw, and so capitalism allows that. With talent and hard work each man is allowed to build a little kingdom for himself, which comes with expensive cars, nice houses etc like you say. And the authorities won't come and take them away. In this process not only did you build a nice life for yourself, but also contributed to society. I say that is great. Also, because it acknowledges individualism, it in turn encourages different ppl to respect and coexist with each other, ppl with different backgrounds, culture, ethnics, religion and preferences. Therefore you have a more colorful society and you have more freedom to openly express yourself. I say that is great too. Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect political system. There's always the ones that don't have any significant talent to begin with, or the ones that got played a back hand by fate. They could be the underprivileged group... But if you look at US or any democratic western nation, the bulk of society consists of middle classes. They're the ones that made it under this system and enjoys a quality life. Compare that to the mass poverty and greyed out society that was the Soviet Union or any that is still under totalitarian rule nowadays.
  13. yepp... I wait another 4 years before all the modules are released, all the bugs ironed out, and the whole thing is on sale with a bundle. skwabie <-- playing it cool
  14. sorry for necroing! just wanna say thnx to Collingwood for mentioning this gem. It turns out to be quite enjoyable and a keeper, especially liking the campaign module it's got. I'm making some videos for it. http://youtu.be/yN_KxalN4F4
  15. lol I'm sure that'll be even harder to do than a "LOS anywhere" function. When that happens we're one step closer to a full blown virtual reality aka the matrix... But you gotta stop taking words at face value. There're hundreds of feature suggestions here to reduce player workload. Off the top of my head how about a minimap, group units by number keys, highlight same split teams within a squad, click waypoint lines to select the unit etc etc etc a forum search will turn up many more. They all help when you perform those LOS checks (and many more aspects of course). Didn't 2.0 engine upgrade introduce movable waypoint, far as I can see it's universally appreciated.
  16. Yes, but the player has to do all that. By himself. One man. Check the entire map for LOS. Everytime he issues a move order to each unit on the map. It thus makes it a tedious process. If the pTruppens are humanly intelligent, should they not all share the workload of the player - check LOS on the piece of terrain that's immediately accessible to them. As BF stated in the debated thread such a tool isn't possible. Too much performance cost and can't be sufficiently accurate. However we don't exactly want an LOS anywhere/i win button either. We're expressing the need to lessen the workload on the player so that he doesn't have to do the work of every squad on the map just like a real life commander doesn't.
  17. Fine... be like that. ChrisND can we open a virtural bar around here to help these bored ppl....
  18. OK look at this way. I'm sure one doesn't mind Arma or Steelbeasts, where the player can only see what is around a single soldier/tank. However don't ask me to simultaneously be the eyes of 100 soldiers. The rest 99 of them should have their own eyes and judge the terrain, judge the LOS issues, decide to be on the left or right of the hedgerow etc. for themselves?
  19. I don't get it... Why's everybody waiting twiddling thumbs and talking politics around here. 2 weeks after CMBS gets released, you'll start doing the same thing in BF's next product forum:rolleyes: It's pointless. I say crank up CMSF, beat the sh*t outta the virtual Syrians and have some fun:cool: Besides, CMBS will be new, it will have bugs; SF is a very mature product and the rough edges have all been sanded off. Nothing like a piece of solid hassle-free software. Well.. for me at least.
  20. ... I stand by my words in that thread. It's a game ain't it, so everything one does with it is "gamey". youse have a point, too much of an "i win" button. my point, it makes the game less tedious.
  21. Why...dark, they did kill the Tiger right? Spoilers please.
  22. i enjoyed reading that thread! may it finds its second life:)
