  1. are all Russian media controlled by state? I thought that ended in 1990. hmmm... ok wiki does provide some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_the_press_in_Russia
  2. About the scenario. I don't get it. One squad suppress the 2nd floor. Some other guys suppress the 1st floor. Another squad left idle ready to kill any kiwis coming outta the gate. Then the squad at the 1 story flat buildings by the side -- move in for the kill. The enemy soon surrenders. Easy peasy. What's the fuss all about?
  3. Thinner... armor? Don't have an answer to that one!.... Didn't the ruskies invent the IFV concept. All in all whilest the US is in the forefront of aviation technology, it seems as though the situation is a bit reversed on the armor department. I feel the yanks were only able to make it up with $$.
  4. That is the general saying, but I can still feel the difference... But you know sburke, you and many others here are diehard CM fans and taking it all in. I'm a bit more picky. I suppose that's what it comes down to.
  5. ^ So, have the german guns' pen values re-calibrated to 0 degrees instead of 30 degrees yet? Last I checked they haven't. And war thunder was supposed to be higher on the realism scale than world of tanks. The bias will always be there. Wait for an American made MMO, the M26 pershing will be the king of "pwn".
  6. BlackMoria, the CV sure is deadly. Biggest problem is it comes mixed with those pesky YPRs within in a company. Not very cool vs an all Bradley one... Minor problems are relatively limited ammo and lack of ATGM for bunkers busting.
  7. meh... i'll probably be dealing with triggers in cmbs. you know, the one that ships with campaigns built for 3.0 spec, instead of something DLed from the repo..
  8. I have little faith in the "free" buiz model atm, as in relying on the designers to supply scenarios/campaigns for free. BF needs to change that. Either start paying them or get somebody else. Otherwise, whenever there's a problem or complaint, the customers are sour, and the scen designers are sour. It's always a sore sight to see in an otherwise very nice commercial product. And as the various modules and engine upgrades march forward, scenarios/campaigns will be left behind because there is no incentive to upgrade them. So why should I buy V3.0 engine for BN/FI, if the contents are essentially the same? (I didn't buy it, boasting this exact thought.)
  9. A heavy company plus supporting units on a 10 km x 10 km open map = heaven Lots of firepower, lots of room to maneuver, not that many mouse clicks. or.... BF could work on ergonomics. Much better solution!!
  10. yes, seen enough distinguished tits on this particular day:D you can indeed say that the modern CMSF is relatively easy. But 2 things. 1 is you're playing against a mostly insurgent force instead of say soviet russia in a full blown war. 2 is victory criteria often includes troop condition and casualty threshold etc, so it's like playing with one hand bound behind. personally!, having an IFV that can actually "F" makes a difference for me, after all those dead gunners.
  11. In order: CMSF FI BN RT amen. there're sizable campaigns in CMSF, some of them 20+ missions long making it quite a rich experience. Now the length of them has quartered. I wait to see what cmbs brings... don't mind that either.
  12. thanks for another great set of mods Kieme. proposing to BFC to postpone CMBS so we can fully enjoy SF first:D
  13. And to add a bit personal experience, i rarely use fire support vehicles, poking them over a ridge for a few minutes just seems asking for an ATGM... Get the FO ptrups in position, hide them and they can stay there forevah also arty off target happens to me too, most cases the FO have marginal LOS to the target area. so need to relocate to a better spotting location. or that's what looked like to me at least..
  14. yehh, it seems they were felt to cause trouble so render distance is deliberately decreased, since one can see trees from the opposite side of the map, but vineyards only appear when very close. but doesn't look like it's enough. actually... iirc when there's a big poly count model it's always nice to have lower level models to ease the load in, rather than having none at all and cause a big jump. but hey just imo.
  15. hi phil, apparently most models in CM have lower level LODs, for example for "tree1" there's tree1.mdr tree1-lod-1.mdr ... tree1-lod-4.mdr each decreasing in poly count (and ofc file size) to optimize rendering, a tree very far away is rendered with lod4 and the other one close to the player's POV rendered with lod1. pretty well known among 3d modellers i reckon. the grapevine models don't have them. add that the grape trees are packed so tight together, when the player moves the camera a lot of polys are rendered together. it should be a reason for the stuttering imo.
  16. balanced/best edit: took a look at the exploded brz files. apparently the "gravpevine" terrain is missing lower level LODs, I think tis the reason for causing stutters and slowdowns. Something easy for BFC to fix but 3rd party can't do anything bout it. So... BFC plz fix or do sumthing?
  17. lancing the abcess?... played every scenario in fi without major slowdowns. puter is ok-ish. but,, i don't set every graphic detail to high. with those even a small-ish scenario feels sluggish.
  18. not a tanker at all but agree. unless he's elastic man or summin'..
  19. When you carry a license to kill, range isn't the problem...
  20. Would like that too, for example clearing an urban area. Opfor might be down in force but doesn't mean the stragglers won't still put up a fight. Although I can imagine it's one of those things "not high on the list"..
  21. speaking of which, always wondered what that box is used for? the one that's got the emblem painted on in the pic. it's not for the cigs is it...
  22. I got nothing. apparently there aren't many addon vehicle skins for SF...
  23. ok that's a relief, so the stinking human bastages will be around for a long long time. with that bigger picture outta the way i'm gonna go back to the beloved bradley ifv and javelin toting storm troopers
  24. wait I'm not clear. So is the universe expanding or collapsing per the current theory? Was always under the impression that it was collapsing and the whole thing's gonna go back to a singularity at the end of it.... And ditto on reading more sci-fi novels. Read just the one and absolutely loved it to bits. But I'm the sorta guy that once starts something just wouldn't drop it so reading a book usual takes some 3 all-nighters hence the opportunity for me doesn't always come through:mad: I think playing CM is more time-efficient entertainment wise!.... Gattaca rocks as a movie but I wonder if it's a book how is it gonna read? I mean in movies you have all the visual cues about the future tech that surrounds ppl's lives to provide a futuristic surreal environment, but it's kinda hard to picture it in a book I reckon.
