Which took a five pence coin or shilling in old money because they were the same size as the 1DM coin meaning canny Brits could get smokes for a fraction of the price when they'd used up their duty free cigarette rations ... so I'm told ... 😏

And how both of them think they will kick the other's a$$.  This is a pretty good AAR in my view, just a shame that Bil's and the Capt's threads are getting derailed by protracted and sometimes arcane discussions about weapon performance.

Nevertheless, France had troops in its sector in Berlin and garrisons in its former occupation zone of West Germany throughout the period.  Its military liaison mission to the Group of Soviet Forces Germany (MMFL) was active and coordinated its activities with those of BRIXMIS and the USMLM.  They are worthy of inclusion.

No but judging by the number of people commenting about units mentioned in the briefing but not showing up in individual campaign scenarios, I suspect that the new campaign has fixed up those oddities and any other reported flaws of a similar nature.

Well if you want to see friendly casualties I highly recommend Demolition Guard ... made by the same studio 😉 and one that I do remember watching in the early 80s ...

Well we're sort of drifting off topic now but in this day and age, Blue Force Tracker emits all the time - it has to in order for a vehicle/squad's position to be updated.  I have no idea what its signature is but that is how I would envisage focusing tactical ELINT.  I don't see radars on every tank as an act of war - who looks at the screen, how much training does the crew need to calibrate, operate and maintain it?  How easily will it break?  Oh ... and how much does each radar cost.  That is why GSRs are limited to certain recce platforms.
Back on topic, my understanding of battlefield survevillance radars in the Cold War era is that they were designed to give an indication of where the enemy was coming from, approximately where they were, where they appeared to be going and in what strength.  This allowed for the surveillance plan/ISTAR plan to be adjusted to confirm/deny the radar plots - one of the principles of ISTAR being to have redundancy in your coverage and overlapping sensors, which could be a dude with a pair of binos.  I think people are getting a bit too excited about the topic to be honest - I would be surprised if a Royal Artillery FOO/Tac Party started whanging fire missions down based on a couple of blips on a battlefield surveillance radar; artillery/mortar locating radars, yes of course, but not a battlefield surveillance radar in this class.

I get the impression you come back from the shops like this ...

I know warrant officers who would have had you on repeat restriction of privileges for your love of scruffy clothing and otherwise ... 😉
Just to add - professional soldiers look after their kit and the raggety-taggety look can be overdone and perhaps is not so common in certain environments as many may think ...

    Same uniform same tour ...

There seem to be a few tutorials doing the rounds of late … so you’re going to get another one – on planning. So if you’re somebody who wondered how it is done, or are somebody who casts a rudimentary eye over the ground, skims through the orders and then just launches across the line of departure with the view to developing a plan on the hoof and wants to change this – then this is the thread for you.

The vehicle for the tutorial is SeinfeldRules Assault Position Mission.  The associated thread is here:

    http://community.battlefront.com/topic/119212-seinfeldrules-scenario-thread/page-1

The mission can be downloaded from here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/d85cs6w3xeeg0oi/AD%20Assault%20Position.zip?dl=0

What do you get from this thread – simply put it will delve into the planning process and then roll into an AAR. I am playing this as designed so Axis attacker versus the AI. So without further ado, let’s crack on with it. Also I’d be grateful if people could refrain from posting spoilers on this mission if you’ve played it – I haven’t yet – which is kind of the point of stepping through the planning process first!!!!

I will warn you that I am no means an expert on military planning but have been around it enough to know how it works. I will cut corners with it here and there but this isn’t necessarily about military doctrine, it is about giving you guys an understanding of some techniques to help you plan your battles should you have a mind to do so.

Clearly questions (that do not contain spoilers) are welcome but many of my answers might be ‘I’ll come to that later’.

You guys are determined to be tricky about this NBC thing aren't you?
Trust me, it is no fun and as it is Feb 24 in Australia, here is me (vehicle commander in the helmet) 30 years ago in Australian time, 29 years ago and one day in the time zones that most forumites are probably living in, wearing an NBC suit about 10 minutes before we launched across the Iraqi border ... because yes it was that long ago ...

We spent three days in that kit and that is nothing compared to having the overboots, gloves and respirators on.  Want to see how much fun it is ....
Communicating .... put your COVID mask on.  Put a pair of gloves on and put a pair of washing up gloves on over the top.  Now try dialing a telephone number and speaking and being understood over that phone.
Writing ... as above but pick up a pen and paper and then try and write down what you can hear from your telephone call.
Using a keyboard ... as above.
Marking a map ... as above but also put on a diving mask.
Shooting accurately - COVID mask, diving goggles and two pairs of gloves - in your own time carry on.
Anything physical ... put on your normal clothes, then put another layer on, add COVID mask, diving goggles, both pairs of gloves and just try and do anything.
Or go for the full option - dare I call it 'Iron' with all of the above activities - COVID mask, diving mask, two pairs of gloves and twice the amount of clothes you'd normally wear.
Don't forget to check that your gloves, mask and goggles are on properly at all times and readjust them as necessary.
When you have done all of the above, you will see that there are more soft factors to be adjusted to simulate NBC than those being suggested.
So it might be 'cool' it might be reflective of the era and I do support the use of chemical weapons as an inclusion in the game as I know this would have been the most likely scenario in a tactical environment; however, it isn't going to happen as @Bil Hardenbergerhas pointed out.
