z1812 got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Irrational Behaviour
There is a lot of back and forth about how bug reporting is done. It would be interesting to know what the process is once the report reaches Battlefront.
The critical thing is perception. I am not sure if the majority feel bugs are being dealt with reasonably or not. However a dedicated process gives customers reassurance. Just like timely updates on what is happening with titles and new additions.
Having worked as one who received and organized the resolution of problems, I found it critical to have reports delivered to one location where they could be prioritized and dealt with in an organized fashion.
I should think this would be beneficial to Battlefront and not a hindrance. It would immediately give those responsible for looking at bugs an idea of the extent of a problem and if it affected more than one title.
BFC already has the help desk. Perhaps bug reports could go there.
If someone takes the time to offer an idea concerning a problem, no matter if it truly makes sense or not, they are doing so because they care about the game. Perhaps a more thoughtful  response would be " I am not sure if that would work but lets kick it upstairs and see if it might be helpful ".

    This is Karl...

And that thing he's cuddling there is Karl's Panzerschreck which he affectionately calls "Bertha". He claims the camouflague on Bertha reduces the chances of enemy tanks spotting him by 75%!
Karl's ammo bearer has cause to dispute this claim as he's lying in a bush picking shrapnel from a tank shell out of his internal organs...

The rest of his platoon, save for a few stragglers and himself, have withdrawn to the woods to the rear.
But Karl didn't go with them despite being shot at by infantry, tanks and surviving two mortar strikes.
He's been hiding in these bushes and watching this one roll up the hill, but he has only 1 round left.

Karl's a good shot, I'm not sure if he's told you that already, he usually tells anyone who'll listen.

His second tank of this December morning.
Now on something of a roll and with no more rounds for Bertha, he pulls his pistol and spies a halftrack. He's not concerned that a squad of enemy infantry were seen running along that tree-line only a minute ago or that his pistol is somewhat inferior to his beloved Bertha in the anti-armour role.

Sure enough, his efforts to ruin the paint job on the halftrack draw the attention of the americans and Karl ist Kaputt..

    The End.

z1812 got a reaction from Aragorn2002 in European Union Army
When an individual or country abandons their desire, or will to defend themselves, then they abandon their freedom and their sovereignty. The countries of the EU will never be truly independent until they can properly defend themselves.
However, whether Europe has a dedicated and unified military or not, the U.S.A. will always have an interest in the security of Europe, as it would prefer to keep any conflict as far from it's own territory as possible.

z1812 reacted to hank24 in Bundeswehr is looking increasingly threadbare
Interesting to read what others think what we Germans think of our Bundeswehr. Maybe my view is a little biased because I served as a volunteer for four years during the cold war.
At that time, each family had someone who served or did serve at some time. So, there was was a close, direct relation between population and army. At that time, the Leopards, helicopters, jets (except F-104) were working, the equipment was OK. There was a clear opponent and the Bundeswehr for home defence, exclusively. Knowing our own history, we were fine with the role of being part of the defence of our common home soils of NATO and not playing any role as world sheriff. One defining thing here always was the binding relation to the west and a respect and admiration of anything from the US. Serving with the army was looked at to be a good and ordinary profession and not even during the time of huge protest against the Pershing 2 missiles I ever experienced bad habit against me wearing uniform.
    What changed since then?
The opponent was gone, relations to Russia developed very positive, I myself cooperated with an aerospace company in Moskov for two years. The Russian military equipment was just scrap after some years. So, people were happy here to have the opportunity for a much smaller army. The world really loooked to become a better place - until 911.
Suddenly, Germany was more or less forced to leave this area of consensus and engage in foreign conflicts. That was not popular and it is not today and these engagements are not seen to be overly successful. In addition, the army changed to an all volunteer force and lost much of its ties into the population.
So, the army spending was reduced over years and as far as I know, first cracks were visible at 1999. But that continued and now the Bundeswehr really is in a bad shape. Another factor is that by our constitution, we are bound to have a civil authority to buy all army stuff and to conduct all projects. That was reduced, too. Therefore, each new weapon system is faulty in some way, from inprecise rifles to grounded helicopters. And even if we would like to spend much more money on defence (it is already incresing substantially) there would be no sound place to use it. Seems like Ursula von der Leyen needs some more time to clean this mess up and she already receives a lot of friendly harassing fire from inside Germany.
Then, the strategic climate changed again, Russia developed back to an opponent and suddenly there is a US president declaring NATO as obsolete. The latter really came as a shock here. In my opinion that, if persistent, will ultimately lead to some more or less independent European defence.
But still, the Bundeswehr is well settled within the vast majority of the German population and the impression that Germany would ever prefer China as a partner before the US is ridiculous.

    Hello Gentlemen
I had hoped to delay the announcement of this until the new CMMODS site was 100% finished and all the mods uploaded however due to circumstances I am pulling the announcement forward to... well now.
After recent discussions between GreenAsJade and Battlefront it has been decided to relocate the CMMODSIII site to fall under the umbrella of The Few Good Men where The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot already reside.
To this end work has begun on moving the modifications currently hosted at CMMODSIII to their new home at CMMODS IV.  As you can imagine this is a major job and will take a few weeks.  CMMODSIII will remain open until the full transfer has taken place so for now I request that no new mods be uploaded to CMMODSIII.
Within the next few days CMMODS IV will be opening the requests section for folk interested in becoming Creators (formerly Authors) and at this time the new upload process will be implemented.  This will be under the Instructions section of the new website but I will post in this thread to keep you all in the loop.
A few points about the new website worth mentioning... all files will now be held in cloud storage so even a catastrophic website crash will not impact any loss of modifications.  All files from the old CMMODSIII site will be relisted and recently with the help of @Erwin I have acquired approx. just shy of 300GB of modifications with quite a few that slipped through the net between the Repository and CMMODSIII transfer over 3 years ago.  So as you can imagine Im going to be very busy over the next few weeks.
Please do not subscribe to the new CMMODS IV just yet or you will be inundated with copious amounts of uploads... I think I uploaded over 100 today... you really don't want that many notification emails dropping in your inbox anytime soon!
In closing I want to thank Martin for all his sterling work over the years keeping CMMODS running and it's an honour to pick up the gauntlet where he left off.
Without further ado, here is the new site, still a work in progress but getting their quickly.

z1812 reacted to RockinHarry in CMBN Invisible floating unit icons mod
Contains invisible floating unit icons for standard CMBN + CW forces. Unpack into data/z folder.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bqq3xoi2p8rr6hs/Z_CMBN No Icons.rar?dl=0
This is not really a full mod. I consider this as experimental toolset for selectively replacing any existing FLOATING UNIT ICONS with invisible ones in CMBN (incl. CW forces). The main idea was to make enemy floating unit icons invisible, while the same time preserving the friendly ones (for quick access and overview), but also to add additional FOW while removing the possible distraction from enemy floating unit icons possibly covering larger parts of the game map. ALT+I does the same, but it´s all or nothing.
ALL floating unit icons for german, US and CW can be replaced with invisible substitute icons. To achieve invisibility, alpha layers were made opaque by filling in all black with Photoshop and saved in 32Bit BMP alpha layer format (the standard).
The folders contain all the invisible floating unit icons unpacked by default and a RAR packed file contains these as backup additionally. So if the mod rar file (Z_CMBN No Icons.rar) is unpacked straight into your data/z folder, EVERY floating unit icon in the game is replaced by invisible ones. Now the purpose is to selectively remove those icons you don´t want to be seen in the game from the sub folders. In example if you play as the US player vs. a german opponent, just delete those files from the friendly "USA" folder and leave the (invisible) "german" opponent ones in, if you don´t want to see german floating unit icons. This leaves any original or modded USA unit icons visible, while making german ones invisible. Also delete the files labeled "icon blue..." (used for US and CW) from the "shared" folder and leave the german ones (icon red...) as is.
The two files from the "contacts" folder should be deleted, as these are needed for friendly FOW purposes. A packed backup file is always present in every sub folder. The backups contain the invisible floating unit icons. Original floating unit icons, as well as modded ones remain untouched off course.
Note: Off course you need to switch floating unit icons ingame to ON (ALT+I). While the floating unit icon graphics are invisible, the actual icon objects are still physically present and if needed you can click/activate them as usual if clicking slightly above a unit in 3D space. Game manual: "Over the center mass of the units they represent"
Another interesting use would be to just delete the files containing "fow" (fog of war) in filename, while preserving every other file in a subfolder. The "fow" files are contained in "british", "german" and "usa" folders. What happens in game is that just the "generic silhouette + question mark" icons pop up occasionally, indicating something has changed among the enemy force. Game manual: "Unknown or previously spotted but now out of sight units, as well as pure sound contacts, are shown with a generic silhouette and a question mark."
I haven´t tested all SKILL LEVEL modes, so it might be possible that some of the above mentioned procedures need to be adapted or changed in order for the particular SKILL MODES handling of floating unit icons works the way you want. I usually play in IRON.
    RockinHarry
Edit: Also works fine with CMFB. Ignore British folder or delete it.

The following is how I save and use core units:
To save a favorite unit when building TOE save it as a core unit file, like you would make for a campaign, but you can load it onto any map you have in the editor.
    To create a core unit:
    1) Open up the scenario editor.
    2) Select desired units.
    3) Save in Scenarios
    4) Name the scenario file. Example - Core US 1944 Armored Inf. Company.

To import core units into a scenario:
    1) Open up the scenario in the scenario editor.
    2) Go to units and delete the units you are replacing with your core force.
    3) While still in Units click on Import Campaign Units.
    4) The scenarios file will open.
    5) Select the desired core force.
    6) Click Deploy Units and place the core force in the setup zone.
    7) Save with a different name to preserve the original scenario.

These mud houses are my take on the typical houses found in Afghanistan, made out of dried mud. I based this mod on the green zone of Helmand province, therefore they are perhaps less suitable for the more mountainous regions where stones are more prevalent. But they will probably work better than the stock buildings anyway. I suppose they could also work for the more rural areas of Syria or Iraq.
These mud houses are made to work alongside Kieme's CMSF in HD buildings. You can have both mods installed at the same time. The mud houses, because they are located in a directory whose name begins with the letter z, should replace some of the buildings made by Kieme. At first I only intended to replace a couple of buildings but ended up making more and more so that only two of Kieme's buildings are intact so to speak.
Finally, although they are modular buildings and can have any number of floors, they work best for single or two storey buildings obviously. Not sure you could stack mud that high anyway.

The opium poppies replace grain tiles.
There are two different textures included in the mod. The default one and another one with a more brownish/yellow colour that is found in late summer when crops are ripe.

Not much to say about these.

    TAGS :
In order to see the mods in your game, you need to add one or several of the mod tags that are linked to the textures.
    mudhouse
    mudwall
    poppies or poppiesyellow
    TEST MAP :
The mod also includes a small portion of an Helmand map I am working on, already set up with the mod tags so you can have a quick preview.
    INSTALL :
Details on how to install included in the readme inside the rar file. I have uploaded two versions of the pack, one with all the files tagged and one without tags. Install the mod tag version, it won't interfere with your game unless a scenario designer adds the tags in a mission. The other version without tags, you can just swap it in and out of your fold folder at your convenience.

z1812 reacted to puje in Could I get some feedback on my coming campaign map?
    Hello
I'm well underway in making a map which will be the location of most of the missions in a campaign. (I have explained the idea here http://community.battlefront.com/topic/134457-campaign-idea/ ) And since maybe 70% of the missions will take place on this map, it must of course be solid.
It is not completely done yet, but I'm getting there. I'd be really greatful if anybody would take a look at it, and give me some pointers in the right direction. I am just looking for feedback on the MAP! Any units, objectives, etc. will be changed in final version. Location markers are just a brainstorm of ideas I might implement in the missions.
    Thanks!

z1812 reacted to John Kettler in See "Hyena Road" especially if you love Canadian Army!
Am taking a chance posting here, but I believe this is the best place to do so, since I believe CMSF2 will allow depicting most, if not all, of the combat actions, not to mention providing a wealth of visuals for mapping maps, laying out villages, skinning things and getting the atmosphere right.  Here's what I just posted about "Hyena Road" on FB.

"Anyone who enjoys war movies, especially modern warfare, must see "Hyena Road" currently free on Amazon Prime. Not only does it have a great and moving story (broke down and cried during one scene), but it's got all the war toys, the real ones, ranging from small arms through field artillery and even a C-17. It's about the Canadian Army in Afghanistan, and parts of it were shot there. It's got real Afghanis speaking Pashtun. Veterans may find this film a bit much, for this movie is raw and unfiltered, and casualties are sometimes gruesome, not gore for the sake of gore, but simply because that's what happens. None of the Hollywood nonsense of intact bodies flying through the air! The screenplay is superb, as are the dialogue and the camera work. The actors playing Canadian Army roles are the pride of Canada, and some of them also appeared in Hollywood films. See this film!"

The war toy list is incomplete. Would add that, though I know squat about how the Canadian Army operates, I found tactics, procedures, capabilities depicted and pretty much everything else to be entire credible. In fact, I'd say it's about as close to real combat as I ever wish to be. Am talking feeling like I'm about to be shot or blown up and from just about any direction at several points during the film. My only issue was with gun elevation during a fire mission. That struck me as odd, and if you watch this amazing film, you'll understand why. Would appreciate feedback on that matter from you FA types on that. I consider "Hyena Road" to be one of the best war movies I've ever seen.

    Regards,

    John Kettler
