  1. You know I'm still going to buy it.....I just needed a grumble, apparently.
  2. Not so sure about that. That is true and I apologise for it. I was in a foul mood earlier and ranting seemed the easier option, I should know better.....Sometimes we have bad days. Is some form of enhanced command structure for the Uncons (or the ability to create same by attaching sub-units to Groups/Commands) actually that unreasonable? I'm not asking for the CM:A organisations, although as I said elsewhere, those might be a better starting point for the more organised Uncon types should you choose to add them in the future. What I'm asking for is some confirmation that we will have the ability to improvise our own command structures for these units, assuming you have not already done so. At the time I would probably have agreed with them.....Glad you didn't listen. But sometimes I get the feeling that you are under the impression that I'm asking for more than I am (see above). I love to improvise and experiment with these games (crew swapping, in-building suicide bombers and so on).....My concern is that from this point of view the new game may be considerably less useable than the old one, rather than massively more so, which I'd have thought would be what we all want?
  3. No Ian, that's how the world works.....Customers have expectations, if you persistently fail to meet them (or in BF's 'little minions' case, rudely belittle them) those customers will spend their money elsewhere.
  4. Amen to that.....BF might want to start to think about their what customers want for a change, or they might find they don't have any.
  5. Adjusting the wind intensity and direction could help to make the smokescreen more effective, if you set it such that the smoke blows back across the river. Weather would probably be a big part of the planning for an operation like this, so it's not unreasonable IMHO. Just a thought.
  6. @MOS:96B2P That's a good point.....I guess it's just a matter of scaling, attach enough teams etc. to a Group/Command and the CO is suddenly Abu Bakhr Al Baghdadi!
  7. Cheers.....My scenario is set in 1990, it's a (totally fictional) direct air-assault on an airport, so I reckon it's still a goer (by the skin of its teeth).
  8. If the Fighter/Combatant 'Groups' could somehow be attached to their respective 'Commands', the job would be done.
  9. Are you sure? I'm confident that I've used Area Target on the upper levels of buildings whose bases were thoroughly obscured. Or am I misreading your statement?
  10. Did BMD-1 & BMD-2 drop fully loaded too? I'd assumed that they did (for a scenario in CM:A, not set in Afghanistan), but I'm worried now.
  11. Cheers, that's actually CM:A.....Still a WIP, but it's almost done.
  12. No doubt.....If there was a game likely to take the title of 'Squarehead's Favourite' away from CM:A it would be the new title, but I just don't think it will.....Working my way around the quirks of this one is very satisfying, it hits a 'sweet spot'. Unlike CM:SF there aren't any big engine issues, the Uncons are well organised with a proper C2 structure and thus they can make an excellent focus for a campaign, unit preservation takes on a whole new level of difficulty when it's the other guys with the helicopter gunships and massed artillery on call (I think this may be why the AI controlled FO/FAC Teams seem a bit myopic compared to their CM:SF bretheren, it's a balancing thing for Blue vs AI scenarios. It can easily be overcome with a few AI orders if you really do want the Blue player to suffer and the Hind gunship strikes in particular seem much more precise than the CM:SF equivalent). Need to get this map finished so I can write a few things on it, see if I can do something to change your mind on the future of CM:A.
  13. It's getting close now.....Anyone for a balanced game of CM:BS?
  14. I'm with @agusto.....No way I'm uninstalling CM:SF, ever. Plenty of space for CM:SF2 and TBH about another twenty or thirty titles if BF wanna make 'em.....And that's before I get my new computer.
  15. Panic. Better thermal imagers. Submit a save to the team for their examination, with a brief explanation of the issue. Just IMHO, based on my own learning, based on quite a lot of experimentation. The Abrams & Bradley are still overrated though.
  16. I've been quietly hoping for MORE UNCONS GODDAMMIT for some time now. A full price module that covered all the games would be a pack full of awesomeness in my opinion..... FFI and various resistance organisations etc. for CM:BN & CM:FB Assorted Partisans for CM:FI & CM:RT Militants & Militias for CB:BS & CM:SF 2 The unique capabilities of these units would vastly expand the scope of the game. You could always do this.....In the editor go into preview mode and CTRL+Click on the face of the building you want to modify, with cunning use of ALT+CTRL+Click you can make some pretty cool looking modular buildings, even in the older games (& even if I do say it myself): PS - These pictures don't have any 'Flavour Objects' yet.....These can add a lot of, well, flavour to a map, and they offer the scenario designer the chance to script his scenarios in a slightly more involved fashion. See @MOS:96B2P's epic CM:BS Tactical Operations Centre for a fine example of this technique: Make sure you read the briefing very, very carefully. Please god.....No! The Uncons in CM:SF don't have a unit structure beyond the 'Group' (Platoon) and we've learnt in the intervening years that these groups are a lot better organised than that.....The CM:A 'Islamic Battalion' or 'Tribal Militia Command' would make an infinitely better starting point. There is actually a valid reason for my still liking CM:A you know.....Barring a few odd quirks it's massively better than CM:SF, especially if you like Uncons. I just hope that BF have given the Uncons a better command structure in CM:SF 2, otherwise CM:A will still be the best game in the series for Uncon warfare (especially HTH).
  17. Download and install CM:BN V:4 Full Installer, then input all of your activation codes one at a time.....This is where problems can sometimes occur, but a support ticket will sort those out in a jiffy, should they arise.
  18. I'd buy it. I'd take a Russia, Iran & Afghanistan pack too......CM:FW (Combat Missions: Forever War).
  19. That is a superb mod.....Totally agree with the sentiments so eloquently expressed above.
  20. It varies slightly by aircraft type too, but the summary above covers the gist of things.
  21. No worries fella, quirky games are me.....I'm exactly the same with my kits; I could build the Hasegawa or Tamiya stuff that's already in my stash, straight out of the box, no fuss, no hassle. But no, I will always go for the Italeri, Airfix or other elderly option, then drive myself mental trying to bring it up to snuff. On the subject of which.....I have sway-braces to fettle. This too.....It's much more evenly matched than many of the other titles and these are insurgents we can play without feeling like a ****.
  22. Paradox initiated.....Looks like @sburke's finally lost the plot.
