  1. I can't wait to see what toys the Uncon Forces get in the new engine.....We already know they have on map mortars (WooYay! ), but what else will we find that's new? MANPADS perhaps? I'm intrigued to see their force structure, what Specialist Teams do they have? How about Individual Vehicles?
  2. Absolutely.....I don't know if you've read through all of @LongLeftFlank's Ramadi thread, but there are some superb discussions and articles there that make this abundantly clear. I'd go so far as to say the campaign in Afghanistan has been an almost total failure in this regard, several recent articles make it clear that the US administration is largely living in a fantasy land with their discussions of ceasefires and participation in the democratic process.....Afghans have never had a total ceasefire in their entire history and the concept of democracy is utterly alien to them, they are a nation of warlords FFS!
  3. I kinda miss him too.....We agree about pretty much exactly SFA, but that doesn't mean I don't think of him as a friend, I argue with all my friends!
  4. That is almost exactly what I'm planning to do with CM:SF II. My story will be set in the backdrop to the war, Iran's first line of defence is Shia militias in Iraq & Syria, to counter these the US & allies arm & encourage the local Sunnis.....I'd imagine you can already guess where this is leading. My hope is to use @LongLeftFlank's Ramadi map and the superior AI capabilities of the new engine to make some low level (no tank battalions to be seen) MOUT madness.....Big(ish) maps (I will slice & dice the original), small(ish) units, lots of sneaking around & lots of big explosions. PS - My assumption is that the US will be going it alone in Iran, after no proof of Syrian regime involvement in the 'Terrorist Attacks' that provoked the war was ever found (Hey don't blame me, I'm just following the historical precedent! ), NATO units will be restricted to peacekeeping duties in Iraq & Syria (which will be fun for them).
  5. Blimey that was quick.....I'm going to have to get Al Hutumah done fast!
  6. Likewise. Best of British to both participants for your exams.....Confident you'll both do yourselves proud.
  7. APS brings a whole range of new disadvantages, all of its very own.....This one is pretty huge:
  8. terrorist ˈtɛrərɪst/ noun noun: terrorist; plural noun: terrorists 1. a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. "four commercial aircraft were hijacked by terrorists" synonyms: bomber, arsonist, incendiary; More gunman, assassin, desperado; hijacker; revolutionary, radical, guerrilla, urban guerrilla, subversive, anarchist, freedom fighter; rareinsurrectionist, insurrectionary adjective adjective: terrorist 1. unlawfully using violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. "a terrorist organization"
  9. That's what used to happen and it's what I tried in RT, as you discovered it didn't work. If I can just get the little b******s out of the vehicles I'm sorted thanks to @MOS:96B2P.....Simply place 'em on an Exit Zone, outside of a setup area and they should be gone! Wanna try it for me, maybe enquire what the situation with the finished product will be.....Having both 'Supply-Dump' and 'Dismounted' as possible Vehicle Condition options would still be a much better solution in the long run though.
  10. D'ya wanna play 'em.....Or kill 'em? If it's the latter, try here (single CM:SF scenario): http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tpg2/cm-shock-force/cmsf-ashsh-al-dababir-the-hornets-nest/ Beginning to think I might have to try to make a campaign out of the original after all. Could you make a simple demo file of your technique in one of the other Engine 4 games please, so that I can take a look at what you did?
  11. Sadly my Mosul stuff doesn't look like it will work in CM:SF II, I plan to switch to another theatre of operations for the new game.
  12. The definition of terrorism has been twisted beyond all recognition by the media in recent years.....Hitler (accurately) used the term "terrorist' to describe both Commandos & Resistance/Partisan forces. I would be more than happy to both play and write scenarios for any of these Unconventional Forces were they made available to me in the CM engine.....Small units blowing big units to pieces always makes me smile!
  13. That sounds kind of 'Command & Conquer' to me. What I like about CM is that you don't know precisely what the enemy is up to, unless you do. Real-Time is putatively more realistic on this front.....Up to about platoon level. Beyond that and you have to pause so often you might as well be playing Turn-Based anyway, plus you don't get to enjoy the replays.
  14. I don't use many mods TBH, but those who do might suddenly find themselves facing M4 carbine wielding ISIS truck crews with suspiciously American sounding surnames, not to mention state of the art NVG under their keffiyehs! My hope is that the 'Dismounted' option might eventually be split into two options, 'Dismounted' (per Engine 2) and 'Supply Dump' (per Engine 4) thus giving us the best of both worlds (I'd assume the coding is all effectively done, it would just require another option).....I'd like to see this in all the titles TBH, that way my German deserters can drive around in GAZ jeeps & trucks without needing to take Russians along for the ride. This option would allow scenario designers to do some very creative stuff.
  15. For me personally, the introduction of the Ammo Dump option, is problematical. I'd been using a manual 'dismount 'em & delete 'em in the editor' technique to cross-crew a variety of wheeled vehicles, but in the newer game engine this isn't possible....The vehicles turn into Ammo Dumps. As it stands the older game will still be the better option for modelling alternative storylines, almost none of the core unit files I've created will work in the new engine.....No more HMMWVs for ISIS, for instance. No US personnel are in any of these HMMWVs.....They came from a supply platoon, I deleted crews 1-3 in the editor and their CO is the 'Unused US Unit' (set to a post battle reinforcement slot).....Can this be done in the new engine? Core file is here if you want to load it up in the new game (suspect what you will see is a large supply dump): https://www.dropbox.com/s/eilrls8vn9pzapo/ISIS Patrol Test.btt?dl=0 If it actually can be done, nobody will be happier than me.
  16. That's how I use 'em.....With all due respect, I believe that the position of many scenario designers, myself included, could be summed up as '**** the official storyline!'. What we are mostly interested in is whether we can use the units provided to create other storylines, all of our very own. Blue Hinds FTW!
  17. Count me in on that as well! A CM: Fulda Gap is my dream CM game. I'm ok knowing that it is basically impossible within the next 5 years or more, but I'm hoping eventually they get around to it. Rarely do the good captain and I agree on anything entirely.....But this is one of those times.
  18. That is one ancient Sherman, with a pretty damned geriatric one right behind it.....Nice find.
