Heaven & Earth: Project discussion thread
Sgt.Squarehead replied to 37mm's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Received.....I'll install 'em and see what it does to what I've made so far. That's kind of what I'm going for, but I also decided to add a section of highway, to imply that we're not that far into the boonies. -

Not as bushy.....If you have CM:BN or CM:FI, they have both so you can compare (CM:RT may have both too, haven't checked). Buildings are proving to be the weakest link in my map-making efforts, they're just too damned big and the roofs are wrong.....Might have to do something on the outskirts of Hue or Saigon instead of a more rural location. -

It's much like the first, but a bit more French. Pine forest is by and large a cultivated environment, now and in the forties.....Not exclusively by any means, of course. -

I'm not convinced that gap should always be filled up. Finland: France: But these are all a long way from 'Nam. -

I'm confident with a bit of effort I can get some terrain that looks reasonably the part, how it will play remains to be discovered of course. I'll make a small village & trail type map first, see how that goes. -

Cool. It's a real shame we don't have the small Independent Buildings from CM:BS, the base CM:SF selection are kind of big for hooches. -

If the gang's all here, I'll happily knock up a small experimental map.....See how Vietnamese I can make it look. -

@BTR Is there any chance that you might redo your BMP-3 to repair the nasty things that happened with the CM:BS 2.01 patch please (IR laser/spotlight and colour change).....It would be very much appreciated, I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure the national characteristics are already built in.....Blue's (ie: modern western forces) advantages are (IMHO) already modelled in their undirected (TacAI controlled) fire and their vastly superior communications/spotting. Surely adding what will effectively become further bonuses in play would only serve to increase their already considerable advantage?

Russian army under equipped?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to lordhedgwich's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I think you might call this the 'Russian Maximum Optimism' thread.....It has a Ukrainian sibling. A lot of us would like to see newer & more content.....While we might get the latter pretty soon, we've already been told that the former is not on the cards. Nobody's shooting you down.....Just trying to save you some catching up. By my estimation that's about a battalion-set, three per company & HQ.....Hardly a vast contingent and while driving T-34s off the production line and straight into battle was fine in Stalingrad, things like a BMPT do require a bit more training. -

VBIED (Bug or error in manual)
Sgt.Squarehead replied to domfluff's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Does it? Maybe a legacy of some older system (CM:SF's been around a while) or simply a poor choice of wording.....Who knows? -
Ditch lock a trench, then place a mixture of Marsh, Rocky, & Forest (no trees needed) tiles (or others that are passable to infantry & not vehicles) in the bottom.....Job done.
-
Oh, you might be surprised.....Lot's of things you can do with a single man with a rifle, they can make fine sentries for insurgent bases, lone gunmen, even policemen. If you play on iron mode (the only true & righteous choice) they (or the Formation version at least) display as HQs to the other side (gonna have to check now and see how the Specialist Team version displays), so the player or your opponent will be none the wiser.

Russian army under equipped?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to lordhedgwich's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Well, after the 'Beast of Kandahar' took his little vacation, that technology became open source. The Russian drone is quite a bit bigger and probably a bit less stealthy, especially from the rear: I suspect it's rather faster too and it definitely has much bigger payload bays. -

Realism Suggestions?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to slippy's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
Not sure I completely agree about ammo preservation for US main force units.....But I don't disagree with your main point. -
Or who will hold back just that little bit longer and let his opponent throw theirs into an ambush, perhaps? Red units definitely appear to perform better when they are static with plenty of friendly spotters dug in nearby. PS - You do have possibly the ultimate infantry and light armoured vehicle shredder that the game has to offer, after all.
