hummm patche 4, I need your opinion
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Falaise's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Both sides continue to be rock solid.....My men shot their rifles dry, killed a lot of Germans, but nobody on either side did anything dumb. -

On the subject of kite-buggying.....Check out this video of (AFAIK) the current land speed record (82.9mph/133.4kmh): On water the record stands at 57.97 knots: Nuking! -

I'm not normally terribly big on news items from DM, but here's one that I thought was pretty cool: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7035685/Heartwarming-moment-quadriplegic-former-airline-pilot-takes-skies-paragliding-flight.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ico=taboola_feed Kind of like kite-buggying off the side of a mountain.....You don't see that every day! -
John Kettler's Omnibus Post

I'm modelling one of the T-26s in the top image, they were subsequently given a winter white-wash.....Mine's been halted at that stage for about a decade now, while I did more research! -
Sgt.Squarehead's CM:SF2 Stuff
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Sgt.Squarehead's topic in CM Shock Force 2 Maps and Mods
Yup.....It's pretty big! 'Bishr' is almost exactly the same area.....But that one has a city in it! -
Mech Airborne and BMP-3 missing
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Sir Lancelot's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Scratch my original comment.....I believe the T-72B m.1989 was imported after the nominal date of the CM:SF/CM:SF2 campaign, which sort of explains its absence (although, on those grounds, I'm not entirely sure how the T-90SA gets to stay). I was falling into the very trap I was warning people about in a CM:BS thread. -
I think I've finally finished converting LJF-Huge Rural to CM:SF2.....9km2 (3km x 3km) of sparsely settled rough and arid terrain for you to cheerfully blow to oblivion! This is only a conversion of an existing map, so the vast bulk of the credit for this map lies with the original designer.....If anyone could let me know who that actually was, I'd be very grateful? Anyhow.....I've added a real river, two road and one rail bridges (& thus also, a railway line, obviously). I've also tried to use a few of the new terrain types here & there to add a bit more variety to what was already an outstanding map: Blank Map (No AI, No Setup Zones, No Objectives, No Labels.....Nothing!): https://www.dropbox.com/s/cp1dib3sdqq7op8/[Map] Huge Arid Valley.btt?dl=0 Blank Map labelled as Mtope River Valley (A completely fictional area somewhere in the vastness of the African Sahel.....Allegedly home to radical Salamist militants and the jihadists of Al Kebab. ): https://www.dropbox.com/s/a9uol3jzs9xvvjz/[Map] Mtope Valley.btt?dl=0 Here's a few 'postcards' from some of the valley's bigger settlements: & one showing a couple of the bridges: The approach to the bridges isn't as perfect as I'd ideally like, AFAIK because of the slightly elevated island I've placed in the river.....If this bothers you, lowering the islands to water level under the bridges or removing them entirely should sort it out (I do have my reasons for doing it this way). Finally.....Have a small bog: Mostly because I'm just too frazzled after doing all this to come up with anything more imaginative ! As ever feel free to use or modify this map in any way that pleases you.....I'm kind of glad to see the back of it TBH! Next up.....Bishr (Redux).

Mech Airborne and BMP-3 missing
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Sir Lancelot's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Just noticed that the T-72M1V (2001) does not seem to be available in CM:SF2.....This is a shame as it was a decent representation of the T-72B m.1989, which Syria have in fairly significant numbers. T-72B m.1989 (with uniquely Syrian side-skirts) in front & T-72AV TURMS-T behind. -
Immobilized Truck and Ammo.

Get the driver back into the truck.....Then you can resupply as normal. -

I sense that a masterclass in map-debugging may be underway. -
Mech Airborne and BMP-3 missing
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Sir Lancelot's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Syria doesn't operate BMP-3 or T-90SA, but Iraq now have both, so they do have their uses. -
Combat Mission AAR: MSR Titan

And that, gentlemen, is why storing ammo in your turret ring is not always a brilliant idea! -
Questionable AI Behavior.
Sgt.Squarehead replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
As this seems to be a CM:BN problem only, might it be better to let this thread wither & die, keeping the discussion going in the thread in the CM:BN Forum, here: @MarkEzra has posted a test file to help diagnose the issue.....I had quite unexpected results. -

Sgt.Squarehead replied to Falaise's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
First play through: Everything was exactly as one might hope for, it was as if the problems described above just did not exist.....Units remained pinned firmly in place even while being shot to pieces, when they did eventually break their choice of direction was entirely sensible. What did you do? -

Sgt.Squarehead replied to Falaise's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
What files are you particularly after, Mark.....Just those with any 'unusual events'? -
I think fixing this one is down to those with greater powers than we.....It seems they already have a handle on the issue.

Now that does bode well. -
The negative G performance of those Warthogs looked suspiciously high to me!

I have every confidence. Is it worth mentioning that Low Bocage is in some of the other games too, it's in CM:FI for sure. I'm just hoping the problem is not more widespread.....Hence my comment above. -
@WhiteWolf65.....I know you are a Warthog fan, do you play CM:SF2? Now there's a game where a Warthog can have some fun.....But watch out where you send them, because the Shilkas & ZPUs work properly now, as do the MANPADS!

We did.....It (almost certainly) is**. CM:BS has a set scenario, a hypothetical invasion of the Ukraine by Russia in the summer of 2017.....Therefore the units available are limited to what was available at that date. The game was written without the benefit of hindsight and, at present, it actually is a little bit sci-fi/fantasy in its choice of equipment, particularly tanks (Ukraine had exactly 0 BM Oplots, the US had exactly 0 Abrams with APS, the Russians had exactly 0 T-90AM or T-72B3 with APS etc. etc.). I believe that this will happen (eventually).....But they'll be the Marines, Brits, NATO of summer 2017(ish), not 2019 & onward. ** Some of us hold out hope.....But not much.

That doesn't bode well. -
It appears to be a new TacAI issue with CM:BN.....It's receiving some scrutiny at the moment, here's the page: This is what almost ended my first attempt at your scenario.....There's a screen-shot of my men doing silly things on your map.

It's a wargame, a bit of flak is normal.....Don't take it to heart fella. Armata seems to mostly be for parades at the moment (Kurganets seem fairly numerous though).....What I want to know is what happened to the T-90M turrets with the long gun? We saw them on the factory floor, but what happened to them?

I think you just did. PS - Welcome to the 'other game'.
