  1. Same reasoning I use to explain to the wife why I can’t carry her. Dear, it is a simple issue of ground pressure, well just get bogged. Somehow she refuses to buy into science.
  2. Yeah I think this will need a lot of rework as CMSF is brought up to cm4 standards.
  3. I don't think CM simulates this which is partly why I asked.
  4. Reading Echo in Ramadi and in this one combat situation an Abrams section comes up to support some Marines in the middle of a firefight. The Marines are on the roof of a building with the M1 on the street below. The M1 is given info on the building they want targeted and prior to it firing the call goes out to the marines on the roof to hunker down and clear the roof. Due to a bit of mis communication the marines are not aware the M1 practice is to fire 2 rounds. The marines have started to re-engage when the second round was fired. The resultant over pressure knocked 2 marines flat and caused them to be evacuated for concussion injuries. Question is this, in RL what kind of proximity would be expected for units working with armor? In this particular instance it is a MOUT scenario and the confines of the street channels the pressure wave of the tank gun. How much impact would that normally have and is there an expectation that infantry should be x meters distant when working with armor?
  5. and that ladies and gentleman is Combat Mission. nuff said
  6. If it is tagged HTH it might not have any AI. You are best opening the editor and checking to see if there are any AI plans. You can do that without gaining any actual intel, just see if there are plans at all.
  7. Just for a little clarity - upgrading CMSF to engine 4 is a huge undertaking. It was either keep in this setting or BF wasn't going to do it. I think all of us would love them to add more to it, but we are all going to just have to enjoy what we get. (and we will all likely use it to make what we want - Mogadishu anyone?)
  8. Wait, what two hours?! What is happening to sgt reed?! I need to know NOW!
  9. damn I am humbled that I would be considered an encouragement. Makes me feel almost useful Maybe this will be an encouragement to other potential designers out there. New blood and effort is always welcome.
  10. considering this is a multi player FPS shooter game I doubt that. Mostly a different audience. Not that I don't think BF will or should up their game, just this isn't the same exact customer base. Personally I'd never buy this game, just not my cup of tea even if Combat Mission didn't exist.
  11. Interesting. There was another bug reported regarding Javelins that showed some ammo sharing oddness. It could be there is something more to it that just wasn’t noticed at the small arms ammo level.
  12. I don’t think I have been this excited about a title since CMBN.
  13. got it. Yeah let me go over a read the other thread. I trust your experience but maybe a fresh set of eyes and different approach might find something. Probably not but it can't hurt
  14. Ack. There has to be a way. I’ll be happy to help tinker with it to see what options we still have.
  15. So use an escort platoon or something else. There are probably a dozen different ways to skin this cat..... sorry PETA
  16. I doubt you’ll see a reliable date on expected release, but it is happening for sure. We’ll just have to wait until Steve surfaces with a new update. To your point about setting, I wouldn’t worry about that too much. The more important point as you noted is it isn’t the uber all seeing all knowing armor of CMBS. this is going to be a really fun title to see released in the current engine.
  17. That is an oddly negative reaction. Why would you think the experience is going to be so much worse? Is there something about force selection in CMBS that would lead you to that conclusion?
  18. Interestingly in combatting al Sadr the US took the approach of disrupting access to funds like this. The wall built along route Gold had as one goal to specifically target revenue acquired from criminal activity at the Jamiliyah market. Much of al Sadr’s support was from simple criminal gangs running rackets. Their relationship with al Sadr was more a franchise opportunity. This became increasingly problematic when he would try to call a ceasefire. These groups could not afford the truce period as the US would actively move to disarm them. Without their weapons they were effectively neutered whereas al Sadr was playing more for political legitimacy and authority. This lack of a unified organization was evident in the attacks on the wall. Each sector would attack as the wall was being built at their location with the net result they would wear themselves out as the wall progressed They could simply have allowed the wall to get built and when US and Iraqis forces moved onto the next section just blow the wall forcing them to come back to repair it. There was however no coordination at that level ISIS seems to have vastly expanded the criminal enterprise aspect in a much more centralized fashion. .
  19. Yep. both you and Cpt Miller are on point. It doesn't matter what other references there are for definitions out there. Within the context of CM only CMs view matters regarding the settings to use. Forget the definitions even. Figure out what "green" means in the context of the battle your are creating then set the options in CM to match that. Veteran, green, elite etc are all just naming conventions to a set of options that are only relevant when compared to each other.
  20. There is - target arc reason for not simply having hold fire is you have more flexibility in that you don't want the enemy to just walk up and shoot you. You can give your troops a perimeter in which they will defend themselves. It also creates the point at which they will ambush anyone approaching so it can play several roles rather than having specific buttons for each action. Also don't forget you can hit shift+ target arc to get a 360 degree defensive perimeter.
  21. This whole concept and your execution is awesome. Nice work.
