umlaut reacted to dragonwynn in New CMRT Campaign: The Cross of Iron
The Cross of Iron is a interactive story driven campaign of a German tank company from June 22, 1944 thru June 26. In this campaign you take the role of Hauptman Johan Clauss, Commander of 1.Kompanie, 501 PzAbt during the opening phases of Operation Bagration. The campaign is designed with the latest version of CMRT and it is semi-historical.

As Clauss you will be faced with completing missions you have been given and somehow keep your Kompanie alive. You will at specific times during the campaign be forced to make hard decisions that can change the path of the campaign for better or worse.

It is very important that you read ALL of the briefings and designer notes as these drive the storyline of the campaign. Also Clauss must be kept alive or the campaign will conclude.

Also there are a number of mod tags within the campaign which will result in a rather robust download which is why the campaign is only available on the GAJ site here http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5458/details. The designer note for the campaign gives a detailed breakdown of the mods used and acknowledges the fine work done by the authors of those mods. In particular I believe that this is the first scenarios/campaign that uses a large part of Umlaut's outstanding factory mod, which in my opinion added the immersion effect that I wanted for this campaign.

To install unzip the zip file and copy the campaign file(.cam) to your campaign directory in CMRT and copy the folder panzermike (mods) to your data/z folder and you should be good to go.

I truly hope those who give it a try will find it enjoyable. I do feel it will be a difficult campaign to complete but it should be rewarding if you do.

Please direct any comments, suggestions etc to this thread so I can make any necessary improvements as they are brought to my attention. It was a great deal of time involved to create this campaign and I want it to be a enjoyable experience.

    Hey Steve,

I would like to ask if this is something we can get eventually. A utility like RezExplode and RezPack that is created to help the customers make maps.

It loads certain files and strips away the family specific issues that jam up the process. Deletes the buildings and flavor objects.
But retains the elevations and basic common terrain and farts out something that can be then edited into a scenario.
Maybe it could retain the AI? A radio button? Maybe it could not...

Well "Don Steve-o", can we come to an agreement to help cooperation among the 5 families?

Nope, it´s a late war pic. There´s no more fuel or ammo, so the FlaK barrel is now a mast and they are about to set sail across the Baltic

    Yet another set uploaded.

This time it is a full set of SPW 251d german halftracks that has been lightly sprinkled with snow. Get them here

The mod tag [snow] should ensure that these mods only show up in games with snowy ground conditions.

The base textures are - as always - made by Aris, I only applied the snow. As far as I can tell, Aris haven´t made any CMFI mods of the spw 251´s. So these are based on his mods for CMBN.

    Units included:

    sdkfz 251/1d
    sdkfz 251/2d
    sdkfz 251/3d
    sdkfz 251/7d
    sdkfz 251/9d
    sdkfz 251/10d

The files have been supplied with the the mod tags [snow] or [mainland snow]. The tags should ensure that these mods only show up in games with snowy ground conditions. You can even use them in a snow battle in Sicily in july 1943 - if you like

I thought "Generation War" was very well acted and decently directed, but that screenplay.....?  Whoa!  Talk about convoluted!  Wasn't the scriptwriter aware that the Ostfront was rather large encompassing hundreds of thousands of square miles and involving tens of millions of human beings?  Yet, he has his characters repeatedly bumping into each other and always at the most convenient of times such as to prevent a rape or death.  By Part 3, I was actually laughing as each more absurdly ludicrous scene unfolded with its truly unbelievable coincidences.

The cast of young, talented, and extremely good-looking German actors/actresses deserved a better script.  (And throw in that young Ukrainian actress who played the escaped Polish slave-laborer as well.)   As did the set, costume, and production design teams.  I certainly don't think "Generation War" is terrible, but its script keeps it from being compared to either "The Pacific" or "Band of Brothers."  For a European production, it was just way too "Hollywood" in its desire to pile on "deus ex machina" plot devices to get its characters sharing screen time.

Thanks a lot. But if I remember correctly (haven´t got CMSF installed anymore) the mesh on the CMSF vehicles (Strykers?) did not appear solid from a distance - as these skirts do. I think BFC use some special technique for these kinds of meshs - probably one we modders can´t make ourselves.

Here´s a link to the bmp, if you´d like it, I´m not going to upload it to the repository or GreenAsJade´s (it is Aris´ work - with my mesh).

    Another fine mesh:

    Hi
It sounded like a fun challenge - so I gave it a try. I made some alpha channels in the original (well, Aris´) skirts to change them from "solid" to mesh-like.

Alas, it doesn´t seem to be possible to make a convincing looking wire mesh. At least not for me. The problem is that the skirts still appear to be "solid" when you get a few metres away from the tank - as you can see on the pics. I don´t think this can be solved by modders - I think BFC will have to make some special textures for this kind of mesh to work.

But who knows, perhaps someone proves me wrong?

umlaut reacted to rocketman in Smoothing out terrain "peaks"
I found something with regards to smoothing terrain in the editor. This might be common knowledge to experienced map makers, but here goes...

Sometimes when there is a steep rise in elevation over a short distance, the editor produces not very real life looking "peaks" that really break immersion for me.

However, if you cover the area in mud, it smooths the entire area out. How about that!

I haven't tried all types of terrain features to see if it has the same effect. I can do tests if this isn't already common knowledge.
