Maybe your dream will soon be realised. The Fallweiss 39 mod for CMFI is being developed. There are a lot of armoured cars in this game, whose parameters are very similar to those of tanks from the early period of the war. German and Italian infantry are also well suited to the period.
Of course, the 3D models of the armoured cars will be converted into corresponding tank models. Some of them are created from scratch.

I'd include 1939 in that range. There's something about the near-peer combat in Poland that sets it apart from the peer vs peer fighting in France. I also just want to see the Polish in action with their own uniforms and equipment, before the loss of their country forced them into a Commonwealth force structure.

Exactly this is why I have been praying to the Almighty for a 1940-43 series to have the series go full circle.  Hell, I might have wanted to sacrifice a pinky and conduct a rain dance to make this happen.  LOL still my heart is content with what they have but you know us die-hards from the initial series CMx1 and Barbarossa to Berlin was tip top as was CMAK in my opinion.

So the switch to CM2 ,BF through us a curve ball and went modern and no one expected that, so the switch to CM3 will be the same pattern? but maybe to a WW1 or Civil War setting ? I doubt it myself from a $ perspective , but these gents are unpredictable, remember one of the main reasons for the modern switch was to "re-charge their batteries".

You mean CM Campaigns? A new operational layer to the current tactical battles? I've been waiting some twenty years for that and I'm afraid it's going to be another twenty!

Glad you enjoyed the Campaign.  It was a good one.  There are many more.  I saw your critiques, you are not wrong in some, but some are harder to complete to make the game manageable.  My guess as far as HE into Houses is, yes devastating but not nearly as devastating as putting SMOKE rounds in a building as they are phosphorus-based.  The Germans did this at Arnhem, and visa versa possibly.  I do find the HE rounds effective, it just may take 2-3 rounds, MG fire is so so, but the German FLAK guns are devastating to Infantry in buildings most of the time.  Stragglers are a pain but they possibly did this because of mechanics... maybe? 
As far as the Campaign is replenished, that is all based on the designer.  I look at how many days is this campaign, and realistically it would be to replenish troops in combat the next day.  Sure in real life you could take a driver and give him a rifle, but honestly he might be too shell-shocked or such to even be of any use.  Anyhow good stuff, there are many scenarios and campaigns out there.

There must be at least a dozen who have previously said they would buy it 🤣.  Me being one.

Honestly, at least for the Mediterranean Theatre, I just wish we got the TOE's.  No scenarios or campaigns, we can make those ourselves. LOL  I just wan the ability to use the editor to create 41-42 (Late) Scenarios where I feel its most competitive on both sides.  Damn challenging for PVP as well.  PBEM.

True, I also think that there is a plethora of people that would enjoy the challenge difficulties of early war, especially with the German Forces as their tanks were... say on Par with Allied tanks, not a real advantage, and the Soviets would definitely be a major challenge, from AT rifles to the obvious T-34, and KV tanks.  All in all I think the early war is more exciting as far as historical battles and just pure challenge.

The Matilda mk2, 'queen of the desert', pretty much the early wars equilivant of the tiger at least in terms of its armour, still had a crap gun though.

In terms of economy of scale, producing the units for 1939-41 would enable several products:  Early War in Europe, Poland '39.  And of course North Africa/Afrika Korps.

I've wanted CMx2 40-41 in the desert more than anything else.
They're just not going to put in the time and effort to create it since Steve says sales wouldn't justify it.
He certainly knows better than I do, but I'll keep hoping and dreaming of the day when I can once again enjoy the thrill of Crap Tanks™ in the desert blazing away at ludicrous distances and missing constantly.

Maybe someday in the distant future, when we all have our own personal moon-sized supercomputers, someone will make a single game that fully integrates air, ground, naval, and space warfare on the tactical, operational, and strategic levels in the full rich detail in which Combat Mission currently covers tactical ground warfare. For now though, there's Combat Mission for tactical ground warfare. There's Command Ops 2 for operational ground warfare. And there's Command: Modern Operations for air and naval warfare. There really isn't anything that does a good job of covering the strategic level, though I suppose either Darkest Hour or Hearts of Iron 4 are ok until someone gets around to making something better. For nuclear warfare I can highly recommend Nuclear War Simulator.
In any case, I don't see any sense in Combat Mission trying to push up into the operational layer. The tactical level is where it specializes.

I'm still hoping for that eventually. But I think it's going to be a while. A lot of other things may take priority

The Canadians will have the Leopard 1. The A3 version I believe. So we'll be getting a good preview of some German equipment at least.

Well, I really can't wait for this expansion to come out, The Brits and Canadians will be a nice ad, but will still wait for my kin, the Germans.. LOL  Really want to blast with anything from a Leopard 1A2-A5.  I could see a late expansion as well using even more modern equipment in the mid-late 80s's But this expansion will be super fun.  Can't wait to play the Brits as well.

I am having a blast modding this FRANCE 1940 project. I am not sure what Bootie will do over at CMMODSIV. I hope he uploads the BRONZE release.

But I changed the UI branch and portrait and silhouette. AND the floating icon.

At the end of this week I will release a small patch for Bronze to fix a human error where I left out something...
