    Rokossovski reacted to MOS:96B2P in C2 & Information Sharing (REDUX)
    The screenshots in the original C2 and Information Sharing topic were destroyed by Photobucket. As a result a REDUX C2 and Information Sharing topic was created with new screenshots. Some mods that will show up most often in the screenshots are, user interface (UI) and floating icons:
    Floating Icons – Cat Tactical Icons CMFI
    User Interface – Juju’s TweakedUI CMFI V5
    Some interesting topics have been started about how information moves through the C2 chain both vertically (up & down the chain of command) and horizontally (directly from one team to another team).  As a result I did some experimenting with C2 & information sharing.  Below are the results with screenshots from the experiment.  If anyone can offer a correction or additional information please do.
    Additional useful information and supplemental C2 rules:
    4.0 Engine Manual page 66 Command & Control.
    @Bil Hardenberger Command Friction 2.0 -  http://community.battlefront.com/topic/125172-command-friction-20/
    @Peregrine Command Layers - http://community.battlefront.com/topic/110861-command-layer-in-ai-battles/

    The distance information can be shared vertically (chain of command).
    Voice C2: Up to six action spots, approximately 48 meters. If either unit is on Hide then the distance is reduced to approximately 16 meters.
    Close Visual C2: Up to 12 action spots, approximately 96 meters. This is also the maximum distance a higher HQ can fill in for a lower HQ. Example: Company or battalion HQ fills in for a platoon HQ and provides C2 to the platoon's fire teams.
    Distant Visual C2: As far as the unit’s line of sight.  (In the experiment I had units in distant visual C2 at 40 action spots, approximately 480 meters before I stopped.)
    Radio C2: Entire map.  In the WWII titles, CMSF & CMA - C2 via backpack radio is lost during foot movement. C2 is maintained during foot movement in CMBS.
    The distance information can be shared horizontally (directly between teams).
    Up to four action spots, approximately 32 meters. (Sometimes a team had to move to within 3 action spots)
    Can information be shared horizontally between teams from different battalions?
    Yes
    Can information be shared between two different HQs that do not have a common higher HQ?
    Vertically: No (With no common higher HQ there is no bridge for the information to pass over)
    Horizontally: Yes
    The experiment was conducted on skill level Iron in CMFI v2.0 Engine 4.  I used two different US battalions on a custom made map for the experiment.  The 4th US Tank Battalion on the west (left) side of the map and the 1st US Infantry Battalion on the east (right) side.  A high ridgeline divided the two battalions.  HQ units are blocked from C2 Voice, Close Visual and Distant Visual with other HQ units. At the beginning of the experiment no units of the 4thBattalion were in C2 with units of the 1st Battalion.  An immobilized German Tiger and a destroyed Tiger were used as the OpFor unit to be spotted and reported.
    The Area of Operations (A/O) for the experiment. Note the highlighted scout team with no C2.

    That I ever had.
    Firstly Im looking for pbem oppos come one come all - got everything cept Brit module ( always will regret that )
    How did I come by that with a record, son, crap job, and all sorts of problems? When I cant justify even spending 5 dollars a pop to up my other titles?
    Its because of the extreme generosity of several board members Ive talked to for years who EXTREMELY generously gifted their beta testers final copy to me (Nidan1, RIP, Sburke, mkjerner) and in this case @Lethaface made my Xmas - he upgraded all my CMSFs
    I dont post this to brag - its a tad embarrassing but Lethaface refuses any gift back except to keep playing PBEMs and Id like to just point out how utterly kind and generous it is for a guy who lives in Europe, and has never met me, to see my love for the games and spend his hard earned money to let me enjoy my hobby!  Its just utterly generous, benevolent and I cannot thank you enough.
    I know Im very divisive and I often upset people and make a fool of myself. I truly wish all of you a Merry Xmas or whatever your beliefs are - and Id like to thank all of you for being here to talk, provide interesting conversations; even unintentionally being a constant in my life when it was all chaos ( literally. I went to jail a few years once and got out now there were smart phones. Most my friends were dead or locked up. My mom was there. And BFC was there. It always was.)
    I cant thank all of you enough for well... Being you guys.

    Rokossovski reacted to Kaunitz in Tiny details you might have missed
    Here is a list of tiny details I've been unaware of and that are not described in the manual. I came upon them more or less by accident. Even though they're of minor importance, I think it's a good idea to note them down, also to show how detailed the game really is! Feel free to add your own tiny discoveries!
    When buying  the mechanized/motorized version of a force, the organic (i.e. bought as part of a formation) trucks sometimes carry special extra ammunition. If part of an AT-gun unit, they carry extra AT-gun ammo (e.g. for the Soviet 45mm AT-gun: 4x HE, 16x AP, 2x cannister). If bought for other unit types, soviet trucks labeled as "(weapons)" come with additional extra ammo for the light mortar and the AT-rifles (24x 50mm mortar rounds, 50xAT rifle rounds).  Even though you can't tell from their ingame appearance/UI, soviet AT-hunter teams (3men) do have AT capabilities. They are listed as carrying "6 grenades". What the game does not tell you (also no special symbols in the equipment UI-slots) is that 4 of these 6 grenades are anti-tank-grenades. The team leader carries two ordinary HE grenades on him while each of the remaining two soldiers carries 2 AT grenades. You need to be really close to use them (within 10m?). So they're like breach teams with detonation charges, just cheaper. On the Soviet SU 76M (self propelled AT gun), you get some standard extra ammo that is automatically shared with infantry units close by (710x 7.62mm rounds). There is no need for the "acquire" command. Maybe it's meant for the weapons of the crew - the manual mentions that they can somehow fire their weapons in self-defence? The enclosed SUs also have extra ammo - I need to test if they also share it.

    [Insert cry of anguish here].  I've been refresh-monkeying CMMODS for days in my eagerness to get my mitts on this mod.  I hope the administrator hasn't gone off for the holidays.  That would leave me refresh-monkeying for a long time.
    P.S.  I'm looking forward to another Africa mod too!

    Rokossovski reacted to MOS:96B2P in IED Minefields
    I think I may have discovered why some minefields have become more difficult to spot.  In CMSF, in addition to AT, AP and mixed minefield, there is the IED minefield.  The IED minefield has nothing to do with the wire, cell & radio IEDs.  It seems to be single AT mine.  I think it is hard to detect because it contains only one AT mine.  Since it only has one AT mine there is also less of a chance a vehicle will hit it while crossing.  (I moved infantry at Fast across the minefield many times with no detonations so I believe it is an AT mine. Also it goes to neutralized after one detonation so just one mine.)
    I did some testing with regular engineers and it took an average of seven minutes for the engineers to detect the minefield.  One team of engineers took 30 minutes and never detected the minefield when I stopped testing.  I suspect the opening scenario of the Task Force Thunder campaign as these IED minefields at the opening in the berm.  Since it is a campaign I can't look in the editor to check.  This may explain the behavior about mines that so many players are commenting on.
