  1. +1 Have regularly brought up the issue of the 3rd ammo bearer having great LOS, but the guy with the main weapon can't move a few inches to get the same LOS. Dunno how hard it would be to program so that the move is automatically made by the AI. But, obviously, one never orders a main weapon, gun or ATGM to fire with the intention of merely having the 3rd ammo loader fire his rifle instead.
  2. BTW: Whatever happened to your "The Heist" and "Action & Reaction" and "Taking It To The People"? Did you ever complete em?
  3. Exciting. Am getting withdrawal symptoms from CMA.
  4. To optimize the "look of the graphics" one has to mess with the nVidia controls (or whatever vid card you are using).
  5. Inability to select main weapons has same issue with the Ukrainian BTR4. It has 30mm plus AGL and in the many times I have played with a BTR4, it always exhausts its 30mm HE (at 10 rounds/sec it takes only about 40-50 seconds) regardless of the suitability of the target before it uses the AGL. Maybe not economical/practical to address for CM2, but hope this is on the list for CM3. Incidentally. a major problem with fast firing weapons like the BTR4's 30mm is that it only requires maybe 5 seconds of fire to be effective. If one uses the 15 second fire command it uses way too much ammo (approx 25% of its entire HE load-out). Currently, one has to revert to the old work around of having waypoints with a 5 second pause and TARGET command followed by a fast move to another waypoint a few meters way with a covered arc or facing command to stop the firing. How practical would it be to reduce the firing time span command to 5 second increments? For modern weapons that is often all one needs.
  6. Yes, sorry to hear you have been poorly, mate. GWS.
  7. Nice looking Mikey. Hope uniforms are also moddable to Turkish. (But weapons??) Syrian desert environment is not significantly different to NA, so no surprise there. What does surprise me is how resistant folks are to a CM-DAK title when everyone is now creaming about CMSF2. But, then I recall how a couple years ago, most people were poo poo-ing the very idea of a CMSF2 that some of us were enthusiastically lobbying for. Customers/people are funny that way.
  8. Nice looking Mikey. Are uniforms also moddable to Turkish?
  9. If support weapons teams place themselves so that the 3rd loader can see a target but the gunner, (or the guy with binoculars) cannot, that could explain the above spotting and targeting issues. We see this happening a lot with MG and ATG teams. Am wondering if this is also why sometimes, an ATGM team will not fire its missile at a suitable target that it seems to have good LOS to. If the guy who has the ATGM does NOT see the target that his teammate does see, it explains why the missile is not fired.
  10. Getting a movie produced is about spreading the blame so that the chances of you as an exec being fired is reduced. So, studio execs remake something else that was successful. ie: "We want something exactly like .......... that made a gazillion dollars... but different."
  11. Well if you do nothing what does the game look like? You only have to mess with the res if it displays wrong dimensions.
  12. No harm in mentioning a competitor's obsolete and inferior game. I used to play Steel Panthers - until CM1 came out and put SP in the shade - never looked at it again and why would anyone? It makes us appreciate how good and advanced CM2 is.
  13. I will get hate mail for saying this, but my sense is that there are not that many CM2 game players here on these forums. Most want to discuss weapons systems and how realistically CM2 depicts/simulates them. Many prefer to read AAR's of other peoples' games than actually play the game themselves. It's not that you wont eventually find an oppo here. But, as Badger says, you may have better luck at other sites like Few Good Men etc.
  14. Yeah, have experienced this regularly as well. I just assumed that the AI won't waste ammo on a hopeless fire mission. The question is how is "hopeless" defined. eg: The crewman without the Javelin has wonderful LOS, but the bloke with the Javelin launcher does not.
  15. This is related to the issue of a support weapon gunner not being able to see or fire at a target - even when a target is in clear view of the 3rd ammo loader. When all it takes is to move the gun or guy with binoculars a few inches to have them in the best spotting/shooting position. It would be more realistic if the game system gave "preference" to the guy with the binoculars (or the gunner) so that they would move to the most useful position for spotting (and shooting).
  16. Generally it's best to just let the ATGM units fire on their own terms (with a covered arc to direct attention to a particular target) rather than giving TARGET commands. Just cos it looks like an easy kill to the human player's eyes, doesn't mean the unit "sees" it that way. Also, the AI may decide that it's a too low probability kill.
  17. This is correct interpretation. What I vaguely recall is that may also reduce the crew's spotting ability, but am not sure about that. Hiding certainly reduces the spotting ability of leg units.
  18. "...operational map that would move as players win battles." That's what it looked like Artkin was referring to. It would be great if CM3 brought back that feature for campaigns - esp since CM3 is now being mentioned.
  19. Well, the good news is CM1 (CMBB and CMAK) are very inexpensive. (I wouldn't recommend CMBO as it was a less sophisticated first version.) Also, if you heavily mod the CM1 games I found that at level 3 and higher views, they look almost as good as a CM2 game. There are a HUGE number of CM1 mods, but it would also take a huge amount of effort to find em all. The easiest way to mod the CM1 games is to get the entire BMP folder with all mods from a CM1 veteran (like me lol). Am not looking for work, but if you do get the CM1 games and have drop box, I'd be happy to upload my folders.
  20. Very good, informative (although ultimately depressing) links. Thanks. "According to the Special Investigator General for Afghan Reconstruction, 2,531 Afghan security forces personnel were killed and another 4,238 were wounded during the first three months of 2017, or an average of 564 casualties per week." "The Taliban recouped its losses to contest and control more districts in Afghanistan during any point in the war. The Taliban clearly is able to regenerate its forces..." "According to this report in the New York Times, security in Ghazni City – the capital of Ghazni province in Afghanistan – has deteriorated to the point where residents are unsure if the Taliban or the government control it. To summarize the report: List of significant Taliban attacks since July 12 (2018): July 12: The Taliban is reported to have killed up to 40 Afghan soldiers in Kunuz and 10 more in Farah. July 14: The Taliban killed 17 Afghan soldiers after overrun a security checkpoint in Farah. July 16: The Taliban stormed a security checkpoint in Nangarhar and killed seven soldiers. July 17: The Taliban killed nine security personnel after overrun three security checkpoints in Kunduz. July 17: The Taliban killed or wounded 16 Afghan security personnel while attacking checkpoints in Kandahar. July 23: The Taliban killed 27 Afghan security forces while assaulting checkpoints in Paktika province. July 23: The Taliban killed nine member of a pro-government militia in Day Kundi province. July 24: The Taliban killed 15 security personnel in an attack in Zabul. So between this escalating fiasco and China's aggressive military and economic expansionism remind me again, what is our wonderful media obsessing about these days..?
  21. Let's be real. We're playing a game and while it is definitely satisfying when uses RL tactics and they work, the fact is that sometimes one has to play the game engine as much as anything in order to win - esp when one has to win to progress in a campaign. It's a major PITA to have to replay a mission several times to progress. (I recall one mission in CMSF1's otherwise excellent "Road to Dinas" campaign that I replayed more than a dozen times in an effort to progress to the next mission. Horrible experience.) It's a design flaw imo when the designer has created a scenario in which there is only one way to win which may require a certain knowledge, and one has to attempt trial and error (ie replay multiple times) to "unlock that key".
  22. Agreed. Hope others make the effort to play. It often seems like most people on these forums merely want to read other peoples' AAR's rather than actually play a CM game themselves.
  23. You mean like CM1 featured? Maybe CM3 could be a remake of CM1 with better graphics.
