I just though people would like to know that we are starting a tournament over at theBlitz for CMRT.  Read the details here: http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=67917

The summary is there will be random group assignments for a round robin from which those that do the best will move on to the elimination rounds.

It wasn't until recently that you could disable just the game music, and not all sound. You can just forget about a volume setting.

If you are waiting for something like a multiplayer lobby, I suggest that you get your affairs in order before you start your vigil.

IIRC, that was ONE scenario. IIRC it was two people who were experiencing crashes with it and you were not one of them. IIRC it was never determined what was causing the crashes but running out of memory was suspected.

You really need to stop making these unsubstantiated declarations of engine problems. You don't know what you're talking about and some of your statements are disingenuous.

    Nice summation.

The difference is that in real time the effect of only seeing spotted friendly units when a friendly unit is selected is always in effect since there are no separate playback and orders phases. This is also true in turn-based TCP/IP since that is actually real time with mandatory pauses every 60 seconds.

    Hi all,

I've been working on a whole bunch of scenarios for CMRT, and finally got around to finishing a couple. I'll use this thread to post whatever I manage to finish. I have 4 for today (though one has already been posted before, just tweaked it a little), and hopefully I can put the finishing touches on 1 or 2 for tomorrow. Most of these have had barely any playtesting, beyond what I could do by myself. That's where I need feedback from you guys. These are not 100% tested. Please let me know what I can change to make it better!

I like small, company sized engagements. All of these have 2 companies or less. These may be suitable for H2H, do not have anyone to test them with though. All my maps are "hand made" originals. They look best with my terrain mod IMO!

    Interlock OP v1.0
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bs581b72xj6n96s/AD%20Interlock%20OP.zip?dl=0

You are in command of a German Grenadier platoon in Estonia. Soviet forces have secured an interlocking tower overlooking our forward positions and are calling artillery on our forces. You have been tasked with securing the tower by force and securing whatever intel you can. Axis vs AI only

    Pastureland v1.0
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/pq48lgx5c1tokfe/AD%20Pasture%20Land.zip?dl=0

The Germans are falling back in confusion. Our tank corps and mehanized infantry have pushed far foward, leaving us, the dismounted infantry, behind to mop up the remnants and widen the corridors. Your company was doing exactly that when you came out of a small copse of trees and immediately started taking machinegun fire. A large, open pastureland sits between you and the incoming fire. On the far side, a group of buildings on the outskirts of a village. You determine that is where the enemy fire is coming from, and you immediately decide to attack. Allied vs AI only.

    Gorbatzewich Roadblock v1.0

You are in command of a Soviet Cavalry Squadron southwest of Babruysk. After several long days of fighting, we have finally managed to capture the vital city and open the road to Minsk. Remnants of German forces still remain around the city, occupying blocking positions and doing their best to prevent our forces from rushing into Minsk. One of these blocking forces is located in the village to your immediate front. Allied vs AI only

    Amongst the Ruins v1.0

You are in command of a German Pioneer Company somewhere within a large city inside Belarus. We have been fighting with the Soviets for control of this vital city for several days now. Your company has been tasked with taking back a bombed out industrial area. Axis vs AI only

Vanir Ausf B reacted to panzersaurkrautwerfer in Vehicles being hit with no penetration and crew reactions
Generally the response when things go haywire is action.  The greater problem in training is getting it drilled that sometimes no action is the preferred action.  However when exposed to murderous stimuli and the ability to respond, the inaction is rarely the action.

Most of your "frozen" soldiers are ones that are under fire or exposed to things to which they have no reasonable response.  They're in hour three of a four hour bombardment.  They're under fire from a distant MG etc, etc.  Also generally the freezing is rarely standing up silhouetted ready to receive lead injection, but simply inability to leave even fairly marginal safety.

A "stressed" response that leads to variable results would be reasonable in my opinion, to deal with someone is a little more nervous than usual, but that can either mean SGT Snuffy is now in full on "fight" mode, or he's worried about loud noises and is distracted by them.

Either way, the normal response is "something" vs "I WILL NOW REMAIN STATIONARY" when under direct fire.

For a non-penetrating hit, you're not going to get those effects.  The gunner's browpad, and the fact that M1A2's GPS has a screen to allow the gunner to sit back for one, but also the inside of the tank doesn't suddenly turn into a sandstorm when struck.  Not to mention we secure all them loose objects exactly for the reason that it coming loose would be a bad event (why do you think the inside of US AFVs are filled with labels indicating where literally everything should be strapped down?  Even in something simple like a rapid traverse, a loose ammo can making its way through the turret could knock someone out.

It might be unpleasant, but it's a tank.  Someone designed it based upon the expeirence of decades of tankers beforehand, to include keeping it from being unable to effectively operate after getting struck by something unable to actually kill the tank.

A lot of the training is not so much focused on the task and its complexity, it's on making the task and the ability to accomplish it second nature.  You don't have to think about doing A-B-C, it's just a natural flow to do B after C, and when condition 1 occurs, skip to D.  It's all about speed in action, or being able to continue to act despite things being fubar.

Backing up out of LOS is really the best option for a response to a non-catastrophic hit.  If someone is hitting you, and you're not engaging them you're just giving them another go at making up for the first shot whiffing.

And, that said, I am one of those who's tried and then discarded Aris's mods. I frankly find his style of weathering to be way overdone, and I don't want to constantly check the forums to see if he's released something new or to find out why a certain mod doesn't work with another one. And yes, I do find the stock textures to be just fine.

The reason that infantry get spotted better than they would in reality is that the AI won't fire at unspotted troops.  Most firefights would probably be conducted using area fire and that would lead to the AI being unable to function properly.  I seem to recall that when the CMBB demo was first released you almost couldn't even get a solid contact if the enemy was beyond 100 meters or something like that.  Almost all infantry combat was area fire, but BFC dialed it back a bit so that the AI would auto engage troops.

Vanir Ausf B reacted to GhostRider3/3 in Clash of Titans Scenario
Hello everyone,  I have finally downloaded one of my scenarios I have been working on for some time.

Clash of Titans is a hypothetical scenario where you play as the Germans vs AI, or Head to Head.  The Scenario is located here
    http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods?game_type=7&show_all=true at GreenAsJade's site.

As this is my first upload I would appreciate your feedback.  Its not the first scenario I have created but I want to get as much feedback as possible.

The Battle is Huge so I have included in the description my computer specs, it ran fine but sometimes got a little slow, but did not make anything unbearable.  Note also that it does take, at least my computer 6 minutes to load.. patience is a virtue for some.

Again its a hypothetical scenario that depicts elements of the 24th Panzer Division along with elements of the 505th sPz.Abt. with their newly acquired Tiger II tanks.  I liked the fact that both depict Cavalry, and the map you will find is suitable for combat ranges of up to and over 2000m  Russian AI has 2-3 plans each and should be decent for replay ability.  Soviet forces include JS-2 tanks and other forces.

Head to Head their are some notes, but it really depends on the skill of players, obviously the Soviet forces will have quantity of men and material, but I left some Designer notes that may be helpful.

I have pretty much every mod, but if you have not uploaded any you may want to include:
http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5170/details  King Tiger Henschel, by umlaut
    http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5297/details  Kieme's HD Modular Buildings Version 2.
    http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5268/details  Kieme's wooden Bunker
    http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5258/details  Veins special effects
    http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5185/details  Juju's sandbags and such.
    Veins tracer mods
    Aris vehicle mods
    Oddball's sound mods.
And all the other goodies out there for immersion.

Vanir Ausf B reacted to John Kettler in Patton quote ref US advantages over Russia & why we'd beat them if we kept going
    Sublime,

Russia's own firing trials showed the US 76 mm gun and the Russian 85 mm were about on par with APCBC, but the US HVAP was dramatically better than arrowhead at all ranges (our own rexford's #4), and the 17-pdr was well past that, with performance exceeding the Panther's gun, if memory serves. Here are the pertinent Russian documents detailing the results of firing tests using a common set of penetration criteria for all weapons assessed, regardless of the user nation.  Penetration, Part 1 http://tankarchives.blogspot.com/2013/03/penetration.html Penetration, Part 2 http://tankarchives.blogspot.com/2013/05/penetration-part-2.html  Usually, things get all screwed up, precisely because the US, Germany, Britain and Russia all did things differently.

    ASL Veteran,

British Royal Artillery combat gunner during WW II, Master Gunner and instructor at RMA Sandhurst Ian Hogg said the US artillery branch was the best of World War II. Nobody could top it when it came to combining hitting power, responsiveness, flexibility, communications, CB/CM, mobility, logistics, artillery spotting from the air and many other pertinent topics. Where the Russians massed tubes, in some cases practically gun trail to gun trail (Battle of Berlin, bombardment of Seelowe Heights), the US massed fires. It also had VT!  And that included VT fuzing for bombs and 5" rockets as well. Thus, Patton wasn't right in terms of gun parks, but he was absolutely right in terms of rating the US artillery as he did vs that of the Russians.

How can that be when the effect you refer to isn't present during the orders phase? Unless you are playing real time? I play Iron mode exclusively and have no idea why any one playing WEGO would want anything different. It's like extra realism for free, IMO.

I don't think Russia assumes that the only scenario in which it faces Western equipment is world war 3. NATO countries sell their stuff to non-NATO countries too. And speaking of which, competition in the export market may be as much a reason for Armata as competition on the battlefield.

No, C&C is different and its the main attraction for it.  Its much tougher coordinating a WW2 force especially in iron mode.

Call it what you will sir. This (i.e. your “debate” style) is absolutely the last thing that I want to digest at this point.

No sir, a pm (or rather public) correspondence allows both parties to address the other side’s arguments and beliefs at their own time and leisure. For instance, I have had a lazy Sunday today and I have enjoyed browsing and contributing to this board. I can also tell you that next week this board would be the absolute last thing on my mind due to my hectic work schedule. If you and I were to exchange messages at each other’s leisure, I would be much more inclined to stay consistent and to address your points in an orderly matter. Right now (or rather 8 hours from now), I simply would not be able to afford such luxury due to my other commitments.
Now I do understand that you don’t like PMs and that is your prerogative, but please understand that this (and most other) forum format benefits those that have the most time to dedicate to thme, and unfortunately that ain’t me…

Right, I see that break down as the opposite (i.e. 70% local and volunteer/ 30% Russian regulars) but I think that we will both agree that these numbers are highly speculative based on our understating of the situation on the ground - that is something that we could discuss at our leisure, but again – I simply cannot commit to 24 hour (or even 7 day) turnaround time. By the time that I will have another lazy Sunday to post here, our old discussion would be completely outdated…

I understand your point, but I will counter this by saying that I do not see this forum as some kind of catalyst for foreign affairs discussion, the format and content here is simply not suited for that (as opposed to a quick and factual BMP-3 vs. M2A3 debate). I try to offer my knowledge and my (however subjective) understanding of the situation on the ground in these threads. I also try real hard to only speak about things that I have a pretty decent understanding of. Unfortunately I cannot always follow up on my statements or go into more detail due to more important (to me) time commitments and priorities. Somehow, I have a feeling that I am not the only one in that predicament. Personally, I feel good about my (however limited) contribution to this forum (with an exception of my last couple of posts in the Debaltsevo thread last week that were unnecessarily rude to you). I am human and I am man enough to say that I regret those.
However, this is your board sir – so if you do find my style to be counter-productive; I will gladly respect your wishes and avoid posting here. It’s your board and your rules sir.

I understand that getting negative feedback on your work is not something that you want but it might not be all together a bad thing either. If everybody who commented on these pictures said "WOW ! thanks, Battlefront...These pictures looks great" then mayby BFC would considder them to be 'good enough'...

    "let's release this..."

I don't think that any of us that have voiced concern about these pictures takes any pleasure in...COMPLAINING...We just want's the game to be as good as possible and that we would rather see BFC holding off on the release for a while longer to get some improvements in...

After all..The BULGE GAME is expected to set the future standard for winter conditions...Not only in this game but also in the comming expansions to RT and CMFI...

I'm for one is hoping for something simular to Kohlenklaus last picture so seeing those pictures and hearing statements from battlefront that the game is pretty far along in its development got me concerned...

But you are absolutely right ! If we don't like it we don't have to buy it....(the problem is... i want to buy it )
