Give us some ideas

Since CMAK is well on the way, some of the designers on the Scenario Design Team are going to continue to design scenarios to have them ready for the various web pages that are out there.

Considering that the game will cover all of the action in the Mediterranean, do you have some battles or operations that you would like to see done in this theater of operations?

Let me and the rest of the designers what you would like to see recreated through this fine game.

We are listening. I know I am.

Not knowing Jack Squat about NA battles, I'll still give you my suggestions, albeit fairly obvious choices.

1. It would be a lot of work, but a "series" of scens and battles for Tobruk and El Alamein(sp?).

2. Another "series" of scens/battle for Torch landings. Maybe the first day or two of the battles...

3. Series of battles for Sicily, including the landings, if there were any.

4. Kasserine Pass

5. Monte Casino

6. Anything with "T-Patchers" in it (mostly Italy). My uncle, who passed away this spring, was there and was in some pretty heavy fighting.

Can't think of the exact name of the 'battle' but it was an Italian rout, a British force went cross country as a short cut and got a few guns and troops ahead of the retreating force and ambushed the Italians. Later tanks caught up and forced a wopping great surrender. happaned just by a coastal road which limited the Italian manouerability.

The invasion of Malta by the Germans.

A campaign with FallschirmJäger and Italian Naval.

The invasion of Malta would have been made mainly by Italians. The Italian Comando Supremo had prepared the plan (and the troops were doing a specific training) for the invasion but the Germans deemed that Malta was not strategically important. It seems that Rommel strongly advised Hitler not to support that operation (against the Italian will).

Check out my CMBO operation on Ortona. This is a great action for CMAK; two Canadian battalions and a squadron of tanks vs. German paratroopers (no German armour). Lots of reference material out there, too. I'm happy to provide references for you, scans, etc. I have some maps and stuff scanned already. I think this would be a prize winner, at least in my books.

My CMBO version wasn't well balanced, and the lack of realistic MGs and demolitions kind of hurt it. With CMBB's upgrade of MGs and lots of engineer units, I think it would be a winner for CMAK.

The entire city easily fits on a medium to large CM map and the battle proper lasted a week. With sewer movement for the Germans, this would be terrific (if sewer movement makes it to CMAK that is) as an operation, maybe with one battle per calendar day and night combat possible after every day/battle?

The real life battle was very well balanced, and the Canadians won mainly because the Germans pulled out after Christmas and retreated to more defensible positions in the Arielli River valley. After Ortona, there was a three month winter stalemate. In CM terms, what would happen if the Germans didn't pull out? Two fairly even forces were left to grapple in the rubble of Ortona; German roadblocks left only one route for Canadian armour to transit the town; would be some good choices for attacker and defender both, given the size of the city and the relatively small number of troops, especially as attrition takes its toll (the two Canadian battalions were not reinforced during the battle, as the rest of 1 Cdn Div was engaged to the west).

The battle was nicknamed Little Stalingrad in the press and was part of the overall Moro River campaign, which took up the better part of the month of December 1943.

If you guys don't do this one for CMAK, I will! But I think the overall scale is just right (maybe a bit bigger than most would like in an operation, but not by much - not like the Volga one in CMBB!) My CMBO version got good reviews; rated down for balance, rightly so (I really didn't research the German side as well as I needed to) but it was seen as interesting.

I hope this is the kind of specific response you were looking for, Wild Bill.

Actually, 7. Flieger would be the only Germans. It was to be an Italian operation </font>
