Oh, sh....t. 3:30 of night now and next mass ballistic strike on Kyiv was 20 minutes ago. It was VERY loud and reportedly over left-bank districts of the city. About two dozens explosions. Preliminary Iskanders, launched from Klintsy area, Briansk oblast. Looks like all were intercepted. I think, more details will be at the morning. Well, I should try to sleep after THIS.

If the planes were on their way home the friendly fire scenario would be more plausible. But apparently they were not. 

The 'demo functionality' does exist on Steam. If you have not seen one it's because the developer/publisher made the choice to not propose a demo.

Please explain then how an unbuttoned T72 Tank commander can't see anything in front of him in broad daylight.  While buttoned up T34's can.
Sorry folks, but if I can see farm equipment moving about in fields while I am driving on the highway (you guys can do that too, no?), then surely a tank commander, laying in wait, in an unbuttoned tank, should be able to spot large moving vehicles in open fields on a sunny day?  That is part of the issue I originally raised, and perhaps the most frustrating part.

Just some info regarding the IR capabilities of the T-80s: the early T-80s uses the TPN-3 which is equipped with a much more sensitive infrared image converter assembly than its predecessor. The passive range of the early versions is between 500 and 800m. With the support of the modernized infrared headlight L4A, which had received a more luminous lamp, the visibility in active operation increased to about 1200 m. Still worse than the western technology but still more than 20m as in my video example. 

I do share this frustation in many battles when i play the soviets. Just now i experienced a harrowing view. My T80B1 is driving into the enemy. Many of its company are already dead from invisble enemies. C2 didn't help. Infantry spotted and relayed the contacts to the HQ, but the info didn't trickle down to the tanks. So i just drove my tanks to near (20m) range of the enemy, still seeing nothing. I have recorded this from both views. Playing the soviets is no fun at all.

Seems my Linux distribution already has the Wine 8.7.something update available. Installed it and tried some things.
The fatal startup error "Could not initialize OpenGL graphics.." no longer occurs.
The current CM games display and run fine for me, using Linux AMD GPU driver. Great!
Edit: Since the recent Wine update I can now also run ArmA 2 properly, that game had mouse input issues before. Stalker CoC now runs at reasonable speed, it was very slow with older wine versions (or was it because I upgraded the Graphics card slightly and switched it to AMD GPU driver?). Good stuff.

Dude, c’Mon.  There are a lot of factual errors here.  Afghanistan in the 80s?  You mean support to the mujahideen?  Ok, technically I guess.  A lot of these were proxy actions during the Cold War against Soviet influence (would like to see that list with the same very liberal metrics).  Some of these like Iraq ‘91 were UN coalition operations.  I mean I like US-bashing day as much as the next guy but this is not credible research.  It is starting with a premise and then working back to try and shape facts to prove it.
Yugoslavia in 99-00?  It wasn’t even a country by then, it was a bunch of fracture states.  Serbia, maybe, because the world was a so much better place with Milosevic in power?

Not sure what you mean by this, I presume adding 20 year newer spotting tech to a 1940s era tank improved its ability to spot.  Which would come back to something I brought up in an earlier reply of mine.  1944 buttoned T34 tanks spotting King Tigers out in the open daylight in a couple of minutes at 1500 m ranges.  1982 buttoned/unbuttoned T72s unable to spot similar sized tanks out in the open at ranges <= 1500 m.  That seems broken to me. 
Both examples from CM2 series games, with same game engine.

I am seeking Axis campaigns that starts of small and gradually adds more units.

Extremely frustrating that the drivers that I must use from AMD that actually work (22.6.1) are nearly nine months old.  I would think some level of "pushing" from Battlefront is in order here as AMD catering to a self-described "tiny company" is not practical unless they are regularly pressured that a half-dozen driver iterations have not solved the OpenGL problem.  Frankly, I point the finger at both Battlefront and AMD for not addressing this issue in a timely manner.  To forego a driver upgrade to fix 5% of my gaming time is just unreasonable; Battlefront and AMD should not expect this!  And the flashbang effect is not tolerable, therefore I cannot upgrade if I want to continue playing the CM series of games....
... Note, I have seen no one post yet an "out of memory" message in CM Cold War after the email turn played out in the most recent drivers.  Reverting to 22.6.1 fixed this as well.
