Despite all verbal violence and general rejoicing we still don't know when Fire and Rubble will be in our hands. Are we talking about days, weeks or months?

And right here is one of the issues with this forum.  While there are things that CM does that differentiate them from other games, CM is not alone is making "realistic tactical  and brilliant games".  Off the top of my head, there are the Graviteam games, which have a decent following and beat BFC to Steam by close to a decade.  Steel Beasts have a good following of people who use it as a combined arms simulator/game.
I play a lot of tactical combat games, including the above mentioned, as well as CM.  I own every CM game and module, as well as owning several of them multiple times.  Up until five of six  years ago, I played CM almost exclusively as my ground combat go-to game.   But over those more recent years, I have started playing other games as they have grown and, in many ways, surpassed CM overall.
There are other very good games out there.  But there are people on this forum who are so heavily vested in CM, they are blind to anything else going on.  They have built their online social life around it.  Their hobby isn't wargaming, its CM.  And they will defend BFC regardless of how things are going.  It has created an insular community with a motto of "BFC or Death".  Forum conversations have become very focused on defending CM or BFC against all comers.  The only issue with that is all comers is becoming no comers.  It seems the majority of the discussion has become either John Kettler-like discussions or The Empower Has No Clothes around issues with CM.
I still come back periodically to see what's going on and hope that CMRT or CMBS module news floats out.  But I find myself being less and less enthused about it.  Reading other wargaming forums, I know I'm not alone.  The regulars here think there is only a small minority of detractors for BFC's performance.  That's because the people on other wargaming and gaming forums, who used to be regulars here,  stopped caring a while ago.

A module that has been worked on since 2016, people. It's 2021 and I bet it's going to take the rest of this year before Fire and Rubble is ready. But yes, all is as it should be and there's so much to be grateful for. 😁

Considering your earlier statement that you didn't really get my point, that's progress.
Complete nonsense, most people wonder what's going on, but are too afraid, too smart or too disappointed to ask questions. Many can't be bothered anymore, since it's hopeless anyway. Me, I'm just stubborn and stupid. And I care much more about CM than you lot will ever understand.

But please, can you continue this in another, appropriate thread? I would like to read about the game here.

The only thing I'm looking forward from BFC these days is a big thorough patch fixing a decent number of the issues that have been reported over the years.

A lot of people were asking for a release date of Fire and Rubble so Elvis gave them January 8. I think it may be just an arbitrary date or could be the date of when we can pre-order.
We should find out more information on Friday in the Year Ahead Bones Post, which they have traditionally always made on January 1.

One would expect some kind of update now release of the module is near. Or am I being silly and should we prepare for more radio silence and the inevitable story about delay, the promised release date of the 8th of January just being the date we can pre-order, so things can drag along for another couple of months and it's ready when it's ready?

The CM2 C2 system is not compelling.  I tested having several infantry units literally sitting on top of each other and when one unit had a confirmed spotting of an enemy, this info was not conveyed to the other 3 or 4 units in the same action square even after 5+ minutes.  Maybe the C2 system only sort of works in a hierarchical command structure(?)

Yeah I heard that before and it is true. But. Sometimes I play War Thunder under Linux with max settings. It runs under opengl. I get a very smooth gameplay with 50fps on average (is capped at 60 with opengl anyway) on incomparably higher graphics. Also the load times are the same like with an nvidia card.
So yes, it partly because of AMD, but mostly because of *something* (I would rather not say) else.

Bufo got a reaction from Scipio in Loading time tests with AMD GPU
So I did a little test because when I switched to an AMD GPU recently I discovered that the time it takes to load a game significantly worsened (with CM titles).
I have discovered that of the game options texture quality has an effect on that. And only that. Model quality, shader, multisampling etc. does not have an effect on this.
All times are given as m:ss, from a cold start (I have quit completely CM before starting the next test).
    Test hardware: Ryzen 3600X + 5700XT + 32GB DDR4 RAM  + Kingston HyperX Savage SSD

CMFI: Beyond the Belice scenario (tiny) loading times in accordance with the 3D texture qualities:
    Fastest: 0:14
    Faster: 0:19
    Fast: 0:29
    Balanced: 0:46
    Improved: 2:16
    Better: 2:17
    Best: 2:18
    CMFI: Hot Mustard scenario (huge)
    Fastest: 0:46
    Faster: 0:50
    Fast: 1:01
    Balanced: 1:12
    Improved: 2:28
    Better: 2:31
    Best: 2:31

You may wonder whats the difference in picture quality. Test shots for each setting are here in QHD resolution:
Fastest, Faster, Fast, Balanced, Improved, Better, Best

Perhaps for a change a movie can be made by Russians about the tens of millions of innocent and defenceless people that died because of communism, Soviet occupation and Stalin's malice, the misery and cruelty in the unspeakable Gulag concentration camps, the blind terror of the NKVD, both in Russia and Eastern Europe that destroyed millions of lifes, the deportation of millions of Russians, Estonians, Latvians, Poles, Hungarians, Germans, Rumanians and many other nationalities, the murder by starvation upon millions of Ukrainians etc etc etc instead of glorifying a war for which the Russians themselves were for a large part responsible.

Bufo reacted to Sulman in Marines Out of Tank Warfare!
It's difficult to say. This topic - the obsolesence of the tank - came up again during the recent Azerbaijan/Armenia conflict, as there was a lot of video released of tanks getting droned. Nicholas Moran says this is an old failing - no anti-air measures whatsoever means dead tanks.
We're likewise familar with SAA T-72s getting shwacked by FSA RPG teams, and yet the Syrian army still had nothing else that can get into city areas and deliver HE on FSA positions. The losses were an accepted risk.  The infantry couldn't do it. The BMPs couldn't do it. The tanks could. They were basically being used as assault guns, but any army fights with what it has.
Tank war isn't glamorous and isn't easily propogandised. It's easy to put together a supercut of tanks getting smashed up by ATGMs but you won't find much footage of tanks killing other tanks or spearheading urban assaults because the danger's such nobody films those. Apart from the SAA, apparently.
I don't think the tank's done quite yet.

BS is the best of the series. It's the most competitive CM. The Harshest. This game should be the only one you practice. 100% worth the money. 300-500% worth after you convert the maps from the other titles over (Super simple, takes no time at all. Every title except CMSF and CM:A work.)....
By far the best CM and I own everything.
My one gripe is the lack of vehicles and equipment. Although I believe this is the most neglected CM (Maps, scenarios, equipment). So I wouldnt be worried. More will come eventually.
Playing as Russians and Ukrainians is the best and will hone your skill

Target arcs only affect spotting in so much as they affect facing.  They are fire control orders.  A face command has the same effect on spotting.

IF Russia is going to attack, then the next 60 days while the U.S. is in a transition period would present a window of opportunity.
After all, Armenia and Azerbaijan just fought a month long war without the ROW much noticing or caring.
A limited offensive that the Russians could argue was part of the ongoing border clashes could potentially work without much Western reaction.
