I am really impressed w the imagination & effort that went into this campaign.  I am on battle #9 now.  I'm doing pretty well but have lost some scimitars & warriors along the way, usually ~1 per battle.  I am concerned this seemingly low attrition is more than I can afford, despite getting a victory every time.

A T-90 and a BMP-3 kept hitting this immobilized Abrams for about 3 minutes at a range of 600m - the T-90 ran out of APFSDS ammo and the BMP ran out of ATGM rounds.
    The crew eventually bailed out.
Notice the penetration hits inside the commanders cupola and all over the RWS.

I was under the impression that the Jan 7 date was a joke from Elvis.  They will release when it's ready and saying it will suddenly be ready Jan 7, 3+ months from now, seemed just make believe.  I think that date was Elvis being tired of being hounded for a date that he does not have.  Perhaps I am mistaken in this assumption?
But we should all be careful about adding to Elvis' stress at this painful time in his personal life -- his Philadelphia Eagles are winless after first 3 games.

Good interview.  From the payments he talked about regarding Steam and Slitherine, it seems they'll have to ~double sales to make this worth it.  So they must be expecting big sales increase, which also means much bigger community.  Good news for a weary world.
So no Abyssinia??  🤪  I don't think BFC will be spending time on obscure campaigns & TOE, which is OK by me.
And I didn't know that Fortress Italy was basically financed by some wealthy CM fan.  If I win the lottery there will definitely be Ost Front 1941-43.  Or should I spend my money on speeding up CMX3?  Being rich must be hard, all these decisions.  Oh wait, I'll just fund both.

Partisans, interesting.  It'd be like shock force, very interesting.  There will be partisans in F&R?  I would like to attack an armored train.
But I am most looking forward to the battles in Hungary.  Serious heavy weapons, snow, mud,  soviets bristling w AT guns facing tiger 2s.  Epic.

This thread was about whether to get CMBN, and none of this changes the answer -- YES.  This is all quibbling about details and overlooking the big picture.  Infantry should run away when they see tanks and be gunned down by machine guns?  or stay under best available cover?  We could argue this into the next century yet the reality is that basically everyone here plays CMBN and loves it so this is very much a small detail.

that was a fender amp??  I'll be darned.  I thought sure it was a Vox.  My Vox sounds just like it I thought.  I have an AC15 (modern) and guitar w P90s instead of humbuckers but sure sounds similar.
Of course, this being a F&R thread, back to business.  Please oh please oh please let this ready for the rainy season (starts in earnest usually mid to late October).  Western Oregon can go weeks of endless cloudy/overcast and wet every day.

My quite unqualified take on the infantry vs tanks question is that every tanker memoir I've read seems to indicate tankers were generally very wary of going anywhere near infantry, at least in the 1943-45 period.  And the rear engine areas could be damaged by grenades, causing power losses, fires.

I would hope that there is something akin to the TC that ASL used, since any reading of memoires makes it clear how infantry were far more shy of dealing with tanks than vice-versa. Hell, people were given medals for taking out tanks single-handed or in close quarters, so that shows the value placed on such actions in real life. To danfrodo's point, true, some AFV's were vulnerable in the rear, but it still, generally took a well placed grenade to affect such areas, and from mid '43 onwards, the introduction of shape-charged weapons such as PF and bazookas, certainly made tankers, sensibly wary of keeping their distance. Regardless, I think John1966 makes a good point about the psychological effect any lumbering hulk of metal is going to have on exposed and unprotected personnel nearby. Well, I'm still waiting for my download link, but hopefully it'll show up soon and I can meet some of y'all on the field  .

Am sure there was a time when they were shy about close assaulting tanks and many complaints were made so now BF changed the routine so that they will do that.
Us old-timers who have been playing versions of CM for 20(!!) years have experienced so many upgraded and patches that it's hard to remember (and forget) the obsolete info and to relearn the game every few years.  Eg:  From the very beginning of CM, HUNT meant that if an enemy shot at the unit within its arc, it would stop.  Now I hear from other threads that after recent patches/upgrades the unit will keep moving.  Sheesh...
I actually envy newcomers to the game as you guys are getting a much more complete and polished version and only have to learn the latest version.

I'm had 20 years of enjoyment from playing the various Combat Mission games, having bought every title and module except 'Afghanistan'.
There's a lot to learn, in terms of gameplay, tactics, unit capabilities, and so on - it's endless. Mistakes are messy.
That's why it remains such fun.
When you want something different - there's a whole world of map, scenario and campaign design (I love making and playing my own QB maps).
It's an amazing game - the frustration is part of the challenge. Just buy it
