When I was studying Spanish (Castilian) in high school (secondary school in some countries),I learned a poem by a Spanish poet. As it was about 54 or 55 years ago, I don’t remember the poet’s name, or even if it was written before the Franco regime. I ask in advance that Spanish speakers forgive any spelling or syntax errors. The poem, and it’s translation goes like this; “En esta Mundo tratador, nada es verdad ni mentido. Todo es la color del crystal buscamos habias.” “In this traitor world, nothing is truth nor lie. All is the color of the glasses through you look. Additionally, please look at the number 6. Remember that from a different perspective or point of view, it might also be a 9.

please keep those things in mind when you post, and provide actual proof from a known, reliable source when making accusations on either side of the argument.

It all depends on the munitions in the dump. Contrary to popular belief, even cartridges don’t usually fly off when they ignite.

I originally thought Putin was testing the new Biden administration to see how it would react. If you look at the history books, the Soviets/Russia have “tested” every new administration since Truman either directly or by a client state. If the administration didn’t react “forcibly” enough, the world suffered an “incident.” History has shown a common practice of “pushing” your opponent. If he resists, take a step back. If he doesn’t resist, take two steps forward.

You seem to have forgotten the fact that Russi, with the USA, signed a treaty, or an agreement (I forget which, that if Ukraine gave up it’s nukes, Russia and the USA would respect it’s territorial integrity. Russia violated that in 2014 by supporting the separatists.

    Next treaty/agreement violation please.

Russia, as a state since it’s inception 1,000 years ago or more has always been xenophobic (fear of outsiders)because of all the invasions it’s suffered from outsiders, right up to the the joint British/Us invasion at Arckangel in 1919, and of course Operation Barbarossa.Tzar Peter the Great  was the first Russian monarch to literally drag the nobles, kicking and screaming, into the 18th century. The xenophobia has existed in Russia for so long, I’m actually starting to think it’s become part of the Russian collective DNA.

For all those who don’t know history, Arkhangelsk was the location that a joint British/US expeditionary force landed to help the White Russians defeat the reds. They failed of course, which is why the World order is as it is today.
Name choice seems to have symbolism in this forum.

If you look at any political discussion between nations or treaty organizations, it’s always about obtaining advantages based on previous conflicts, instead of “How can we, as prospective opposing belligerents prevent the misunderstandings and perceptions from causing another conflict. Politicians almost NEVER learn from history, and so we are doomed to repeat it. Ergo the talk of “reparations.” Didn’t the victors of WW I think that was a good ideas “ to punish the Hun?” How well did that work? Felt great from the vengeance aspect though.

Much more than you know perhaps. I pride myself on being an amateur historian. I know the basic history of Eastern Europe from the creation of the Kiev Rus up to the present, and there is plenty of blame to be spread around for conditions and politics of today. I’m probably one of few former USMC (1969 to 1982j who know the underpinnings of the U.S./Vietnam conflict, and how it could have been prevented by FDR when asked by Ho Chi Min for weapons to drive the Japanese out of “French” Indochina, any guesses what his decision was? I tend to asses situations based on knowledge of the region’s history, and not nationalism. And, I despise “revisionist history.”

For any of you who have never served in an infantry/combat arms unit, speaking from experience as a USMC Infanty, Small Unit Leader (0369) in the 1970s and early 1980s, men basically knew only what the higher-ups were willing to tell them. For example, I participated in the NATO Operation Teamwork in Northern Norway. We went from an airbase, Brekstat, onto Amphibious Assault Ships, steamed up the coast, and made our initial assault by helicopter. We assumed we were in Norway, but could have been landing in Soviet Territory for all we knew. So yes, it is possible that the grunts thought they were still in Russia.

I was discussing the terms of Russian military service with a veteran of the Chechen war. He told me that the first compulsory service is the lowest level of experience. If one wishes to remain in service after the compulsory service and become a Noncommissioned Officer, they sign a “contract.” It”s basically the same as re-enlisting in the US military, except they are then referred to as “Contractors.”

I suspect that UKR people and leaders are just as intelligent and competent as any. I doubt that they will assume that a loud-mouth braggart has-been speaks for the entire US population, and I am in the same political party as him. We also have a “silent majority” that doesn’t align with either ridiculous extreme. I swore an oath to “preserve and protect the Constitution on a number of occasions, and I, unlike some, take my sworn oath seriously.

My apologies to all, and probably do “need a vacation.”

Historically, he is partially right, except he has it backwards. Moscow was part of the Kiev Rus principality. In fact, that is where Russia gets it’s name. Kiev was settled by a Swedish tribe know as the Rus. That was well over 1,000 years ago. He needs to be careful as China can probably that Russia is historically part of China since it was occupied for hundreds of years by the Mongols and Tartars.

Regarding the M2 60mm mortar, in the U.S.M.C. in Vietnam and 1970's, the M2 was company level. Usually, the weapons in the Company Weapons Platoon were parceled out to the Rifle Platoons. I was a Weapons Section Leader, and was assigned to a rifle Platoon along with a 60mm mortar section (three guns), a machine gun squad (two M60 machine gun teams), and an antitank assault team (M202 multishot rocket launcher and LAAWs. We used the tubes (M2s) mainly for direct fire (targets we could  see),and illumination at night. Whenever the section set up in a fixed position (perimeter), the mortar crew would register their tube by aligning a side of the baseplate to north. They would then set out aiming stakes at specific azimuths to register for indirect fire (fire emissions that they couldn't see or at night). If we received a fire mission from the Company through the Commander of the Rifle Platoon to which we were assigned to support another unit that was outside the azimuth range for the mortar, the gunner would physically pick up the bipod legs and move them until the sight was alined on an aiming stake, and then dial in the coordinates of the target. In Vietnam, many Marine M2 crews wouldn't even bother to use the baseplate or bipod to deploy their weapons quickly. They would just put the ball of the tube on the ground, and walk in the rounds like a grenade launcher. Of course you can't do that in CMSF.
M2 60mm mortars assigned to the Rifle Platoons are used primarily in the direct fire mode. Those retained at the Company level are primarily used in the indirect fire mode.
Marine 81mm mortars are Battalion level, are indirect (except maybe in an extreme situation), and are rarely, if ever, parceled out to Company level.
Thus, Marines use 60mm mortars for both direct and indirect fire missions. This can affect how you select weapons and units for a quick battle or deploy Marines in CMSF2 if you have the Marines Module. The Marine formations are very different from Army units in both their composition and how you use them.

Well, I don’t know how you have your Windows 10 Startup set up, but when I start up my computer, right after Windows 10 starts up, I have to type in a “pin code” that I set when I installed Windows 10. Is is possible that one of your Windows 10 system start up options got changed so it requires your pin code, sort of like a password for starting as an administrator, or a security option to download from an unknown source? I know that sometimes the Mac OS has refused to allow the installer on CM demos if it doesn’t recognize the source. In that case, we simply right-click and select “open.” It then runs the installer. Try doing a right-click and open, and see if that works.
