I like the changes to make infantry less likely to run away.
It seems more realistic that soldiers will not abandon positions of cover, and it also increases the challenge of many scenarios when you can't just flush out defenders by artillery or suppressive fire.
I'm currently replaying the huge scenario 'Mission to Maas' by @theforger, and the different AI is definitely felt. The American paratroopers really put up a good fight.

If your ears are bleeding from hearing Panzer Lied too many times, and you don't care any more about Lilli Marlene and meeting her under a lamppost, here's the antidote, in a record of dazzling audio clarity. Besides, where are you ever going to find  find the great song title Mit Bomben und granaten for a martial topic? Here's music to listen to while playing CM or maybe build into a scenario to share with your fellow addicts. Found this while trying to find the PG Lied.

Thank you that is very kind. Yes, it works with all CM2 games. I purposely built it so you point to your installed game and it makes an attempt to figure out the needed directories but you can override them. That way if BFC changes something you are in control.
I have a new version coming with a few new features. I'm bogged down with real life work and some changes that are causing me grief. I will update people when there is news.

just made 3 test runs in a particular mission of mine and (concrete) pillboxes vulnerable from mortar rounds penetrating straight to the interior seems gone now. 😎 There´s some occasional lightly wounded from near misses, but I treat that as realistic (more or less). Got to check evade behavior next (CMBN & CMFB).

More details about the the fix and my personal experiences playing with the TacAI changes in an urban battle can be found in my post last month over in the Fire and Rubble DAR thread. (25th of June) Just in case there are any people here that aren't as interested in the Ost front and may not have seen it. But yes, +1 to Cpt. Miller's post. It's looking good people.

@111thGameBn no worries mate - making scenarios can be an epic process and all of us approach it differently.  The important thing is having a passion for the thing you are creating but that will need to be tempered by what you can achieve in the engine.  My preferences are for historical actions and real terrain but they don't often make great scenarios.
Having had a cursory look at it - CM doesn't do mountains well and drastic changes in elevation, which will be the case in doing the whole mountain, and will eat up processor power - I wanted to do Kham Duc ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kham_Duc ) for  @37mm's Heaven and Earth Mod for Shock Force 2 which started off as a 4x4km map - I've cropped it twice and it still won't load due I think to the elevation changes and the number of trees.  I would focus on the area of the main action, which hopefully will be no more than 2km x 2km and recreate that.  Be prepared to smooth out some of the contours, so long as the thing looks right you should be alright.
Feel free to PM me if you have any trouble or want any more advice - or continue the discussion here.

The bug has been patched and fix. The patches are being tested now to ensure nothing else is broken.
As one of the original people who pointed out the 4.0 HE bug (anyone remember the video?) I know that it can be frustrating waiting for a patch. But, I also know that the bug is 100% fixed, having played the patch that addresses the issues. The bug is squashed, and the patch is coming.

Badger73 reacted to Bulletpoint in Hypothetical China-India war is now much less hypothetical
When I look at US foreign policy under the last three presidents, to me it seems more like basic incompetence than any realpolitik. The US seems incapable of setting a goal and working long-term to achieve it. You've lost so much credibility - from both friends and enemies - and accomplished so little. And just for the record, I am not anti-american.
Bush: Showed the world that the US military is not invincible. It can invade a country but cannot win an occupation that turns into a terror war by proxy. Calling allies to war based on a lie about weapons of mass destruction is a card you can only play once.
Obama: Showed that US "red lines" mean nothing. International rules of war - such as using chemical weapons - can be broken with impunity.
Trump: Completely unpredictable. One moment he hates the North Korean dictator, next moment they're best buddies. Ready to scrap international agreements on arms control and withdraw from organisations such as the WHO that were important instruments of American soft power. Tore up the Iran nuclear deal without presenting any other real plan for how to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
There used to be an international order, and the US was the leader of that order. There were some years where Russia and China tried to fit in, which would mean democratic reforms, free trade, etc. Countries had a choice between accepting democracy and enjoy wealth, or languish in the swamp of socialism.
Now, they realise the US has become a paper tiger, and they have also realised that it's possible to have economic growth without democracy. Not through socialism, but through good old autocracy. That's why they have now changed their strategy to be one of subverting the international order. This weakens the US and Europe immensely.

I suspect it has to do with authorized vendors; the bureaucracy of government procurement protocols.  While I am not familiar with the British Ministry of Defence, the United States Department of Defense will only award contracts to authorized vendors who complete and maintain a pretty onerous vetting process.  I know of several situations in the US where people from small organizations who are not vetted sub-contracted through CACI which is thoroughly vetted in order to perform Defense Department work.  It makes sense to me that Battlefront would piggy-back off of someone else's credentials to avoid vetting hassles and costs at the small price of a reasonable fee through the agency of someone like Slitherine/Matrix.

I follow a gamers Youtube channel called Gameranx and they have 5.7 million subscribers. They put up a top 10 most historically accurate games list and it was pretty much the usual suspects, big games and so on. As I was watching it I was cursing to myself why these channels never do wargames in a serious fashion, but guess what? Wait for it ....
... and yeah, 5.7 million people might get exposed to a REAL game series 😃

Think I managed to knock out the entire Luftwaffe today. I am happy with everything so they should be keepers. Even managed the SS armor portrait. I collected the base pic from another forum back in October and have been dying to take a crack at it. I am SUPER happy with how it turned out. I REALLY love it.
Here's a preview of ALL the main Armor for CMBN (Bocage style background as in the American pics above).

As you can see there's NO argument that this new style was the way to go!

Well, hello again thread from 2016. I come from the future with good news.
It's now 2020, and it is now possible to throw handgrenades into buildings from some distance from the building. Just saw my guys throw two grenades into a building from 10m distance. They decided to do it on their own accord when they spotted enemies there - not sure if it's possible to make them do it by an area fire order.

I've been working on a series of QB maps - starting with large-huge base maps, which I am slicing up, adding AI plans, to make QB maps of various sizes.
It's still in progress, but I have been quite pleased with the latest base map, around 2.5km square, of rolling cropland. There is lots of patchy scattered cover, but also frequent avenues of long-range LOS. I found the result of this latest one quite picturesque...

The land descends gently from the north, through gently rolling fields.

As it descends, there are occasional low escarpments, offering views of the surrounding countryside.

Scattered amongst the fields, there are one or two patches of open woodland.

Spend the afternoon wandering pretty shaded paths.

The roads are generally good in this part of Italy.

And here and there are some delightful Italian farmhouses and farm complexes.

Some of them are quite modern.

    Others with a historical feel.

For the well-heeled businessman, or an ex-GI flush with looted Nazi treasure, enjoy a stay in this charming part of Italy...

Badger73 reacted to Lt Bull in QB Battle Force Points tables/charts
I can understand that navigating through and selecting the right QB settings can be a bit of a nightmare. I've had a bit of a look at all the options and found that it is easier to "find what you are looking for" by probably looking through a chart that lists all the possible player 1 and player 2 QB force points combinations and ratios.

Note: if you apply the attacker force modifer in the QB settings in CM, the resultant points you see is/might be slightly off what you would mathematically expect. The values I work with are mathematically calculated and hence can be off by +/-20 pts in some cases.

CM has a very odd way of letting players control the size of their QB battles. They arbitrarily get you to pick the battle type, then the battle size, which fixes the force size for one side (the designated "defender"). It then gives you fixed % force size adjustment modifiers to increase or decrease the points for the other side (the "attacker"). The use of the terms ME, probe, attack and assualt are pretty much meaningless and so arbitrary when all you really care about is the actual points for each side (and associated ratio).

Given the way CM determines things in QBs, it is porbably best to first start off determing the appropriate points (and hence force size) to give the defender for a given map, as these are limited in choice. Once that is determined, determine the appropriate attacker: defender points force ratio is appropriate for the map. Note that the ratio table does not feature "attacker:defender" ratios of less than 1, even though CM QBs literally can allow the "attacker" to have less points than the "defender". To fully utilise all force size posibilities in a QB, it is more important to get the side1:side2 force ratio correct (and overall points for each side) regardless of what the game considers the "attacker" and the "defender" and then do what you need to do to make sure the QB/QB map sets up the right players in the right deployment zones etc.

For example if you think that maybe a force size of around 3500 points for one side defending on a map is suitable, we can go to the chart of ratios and search for a "defender" force size close to 3500. There is 3399 (large attack) and 3620 (large probe). You can then filter the chart (if you have Excel) on the attackers side for LAT and LPR. A bunch of "attacker" force size ration posibilities are shown.

PS: Manually download the chart above as a JPG to better read the numbers as this thread does not show image at 100%.

Behold, an end to their misery!
