Probus reacted to Bannon in The year to come - 2024 (Part 2)
I have all the seasons of Faulty Towers on DVD somewhere. This was one of the funniest programs ever!

Probus reacted to FancyCat in How Hot is Ukraine Gonna Get?
Gah, imagine being Taiwan or South Korea or Japan or Vietnam and watching this absolute ****show. Or Europe. How the hell can any state that relies on American military deterrent be pleased that the Arsenal of Democracy is apparently slumbering?
Shameful. We have thousands of Bradleys piled in storage and we have sent according to wiki, about 200? It was acceptable to say at the beginning, "Ukraine needs to get the logistical pipeline set up" before shipping more, what the hell is the excuse now? This is bull****, expecting Ukraine to conduct offensives with what is virtually hand me downs and a sprinkling of equipment. (Sure, sure artillery shells)(humbug)
How is Taiwan supposed to be feeling good about facing the world's manufacturing giant and then comparing to this? This was supposed to be America's time to shine, to illustrate that time is indeed on our side, instead Xi and Putin are gambling time is on their side and our inability is costing the lives of Ukrainians.

Thank you Steve for your commitment my favorite game system. For nearly 24 years I have been playing CM everyday practically, I never tire of it and I look forward to every new advancement. Cheers to many more years of fun.

Probus reacted to Centurian52 in The year to come - 2024 (Part 2)
Maybe someday in the distant future, when we all have our own personal moon-sized supercomputers, someone will make a single game that fully integrates air, ground, naval, and space warfare on the tactical, operational, and strategic levels in the full rich detail in which Combat Mission currently covers tactical ground warfare. For now though, there's Combat Mission for tactical ground warfare. There's Command Ops 2 for operational ground warfare. And there's Command: Modern Operations for air and naval warfare. There really isn't anything that does a good job of covering the strategic level, though I suppose either Darkest Hour or Hearts of Iron 4 are ok until someone gets around to making something better. For nuclear warfare I can highly recommend Nuclear War Simulator.
In any case, I don't see any sense in Combat Mission trying to push up into the operational layer. The tactical level is where it specializes.

Probus reacted to Erwin in Is CMBS dead?
With the advent of Cyberwar, and new forms of warfare tech, that is no longer a given. It is a worry that we have become like the mighty Persian army which came up against the upstart Greeks.

Probus reacted to Traitor in Is CMBS dead?
True, warfare is changing, especially with the rise of new technologies like drones. However, I expect most militaries to be rapidly developing anti-drone technology, jammers and the like so the effectiveness of cheap commercial off the shelf drones will greatly diminish and all remaining drones in warfare will need to be hardened in some way.
In a conventional war, the US military does currently dominate over any potential opposition, but it remains to be seen if this lead will last. That's why I think the near future/near peer setting is an important one to model in wargames, sure, it's hypothetical in nature, but we can't assume that the US military will remain peerless 10, 20 or 30 years in the future and it is useful to simulate how well it does against an equivalent foe.

😂
Even if it was 30 minutes in my 3 hour game, that would be do-able (and useful). Otherwise you have a big chunk of metal sat in the wrong place right up to 3 hours.

I'm tellin' ya... Wikipedia says 2.5 minutes and as we all know, Wikipedia is always right! 🤣

I'm glad you qualified that. He was kinda in the same position as Yamamoto.

By the end of the war tank riding on American tanks was becoming more common. This was when advancing forces were covering dozens of miles at a time being met mostly by surrender flags. Different circumstances than the Normandy hedgerows 9 months earlier. So not appropriate for that title, appropriate for this one.

We can certainly put a good number of soldiers on the tanks but I don't give much for survivors if a projectile hits them, and the player's morale takes also a hit not only for the carcass but especially for the lives, but yes the curiousity was worth and will help when a long march is planified
Interresting, play it again to confirm the damage I m sure this will be different...😆
about the knees on the tanks... yes of course it's just an optical illusion but as I say interesting, and I was already able to change some positions of some tanks riders the only thing that I could not change was the sitting position form, but I was able to put a soldier more left or more right in a higher or lower position (dont have access to the 3d models sihouettes) but well on the place that they are occuped , just to have a differents view of the braves, on the hot engine grill.
This could be a future mod when I will be able to breathe when all is finish...

The US actually made 17 pdr Shermans for their own use! Except they didn't make it to Europe in time to participate. Here's what I think is the sole photo of them. M4 Hybrid hull with late side fenders, etc. At depot in Europe.

Probus got a reaction from SlowMotion in Is CMBS dead?
I would just like to see an expanded ToE. A simple patch that adds modern weapons would be nice. Breathe life back into the game without the risk of being called out as profiteering from the war. Everyone gets to simulate (to an extent) what’s going on over there with little to no risk to BFC.
Players could create the maps and scenarios and upload them to FGM. A compromise that might just leave everyone happy and dying for this damn war to be over. Then BFC could release somefink with proper drone warfare and minefields and such.

These are notes as to where to shoot enemy tanks with your Sherman 75mm.
Not sure on all the French to English translations. What does NON mean? Don't shoot it there?

Probus got a reaction from laurent 22 in Combat Mission Grand Tournament
Thanks BFC for organizing these tournaments. I really enjoyed all the games save one. I hope you learned a lot of lessons you can roll into future tourneys.
Since no-shows are just a way of life with projects like this, may I suggest one thing? Make the first scenario worth the fewest number of points and the last scenario the most. Kinda like some game shows. This way you cull out the no-shows with the fewest number of points at steak. Maybe use somethin’ like ~1000-2000-3000 points for the 1st-2nd-3rd games.
Looking forward to more tourneys!

Probus reacted to MeatEtr in The first Battle for Normandy Tournament is ready for signups.
I did pick the CMBN tourney in his double combo tourney. I just dont have the time to play both. Wish I did as these are excellent fun and a good test of ones tactical skills. These are truly blind, no way for players to peek or pre-play the battles before hand.
Also just wanted to say thanks for the battles from my opponents. I snagged 2nd place in this one but the battles were very hard fought. Enjoyed these very much, cya in the next one! 👍
