  1. I cannot comment on SCWW1 because I haven't had a chance to play it yet. But I can thank Hubert and Company for their integrity, honesty, hard work, selflessness, etc., for delivering on your promise of the free WW2 expansion. I have all the games in the series, and the reason I do is trust. I know you will be around for a while. I cannot list the number of strategy games alone where they are released and the devs simply disappear. Some of these games are never patched once. Others are almost unplayable. I also know that many of these devs probably never made a dime, so it is tough. All we can do is spread the word on other sites, so the series gets the sales it deserves and you guys get something back for your hard work. Also, thanks to the many who are not paid but give of their time. The latest AAR is one example. There is nothing more precious than time, which is why I need to keep my game playing time in check! Again, very best wishes.
  2. I tend to doubt it's a path problem. We've all been installing and patching these games for years. But it's not a big deal, either. We'll see what happens on the next patch. It's just good to be aware of. The first time I saw this in CMBN, I copied over the dll from another BF game, and couldn't believe it worked. Kind of got off on solving my own problem for a change, you know?
  3. See, and Martin blamed it on me or my virus software At least it's easily fixed.
  4. So a 30" Dell at 2800x1800; or go bigger with HDTV and HDMI cable. Stupid question I'm sure, but does graphics card (say an ATI 4850) fit into the equation?
  5. No question to buy at that price. I was a bit disappointed in it over Kursk, and there has been no patching I know of. It's almost like there may never be. So at $45, I'd skip it and get another BF game. But on sale, grab it. It also has that strategic layer which is underdeveloped but at least it's different.
  6. Installed the 1.32 patch (with all add-ons) and got an error that the elicen40.dll file wound up missing. So I pasted one in from TOW Kursk, and it worked. Just an FYI.
  7. If the AI gives a human a run for his money without a lot of cheating, this is good news indeed. In fact, I hope the AI does beat you at some point. Go AI!
  8. You was right. Loaded the new "Chance Encounter" and just left the room. It was there when I got back. Thanks for the advice. I will try the others.
  9. Okay Thanks. I thought there was a problem because Task Manager said CM was not responding.
  10. Odd that this scenario and Spam and Jam both freeze up at 39% loading. So it's obviously me. Any ideas. I am using the grid terrain mod. Thanks guys.
  11. Been to Aberdeen, but they don't have a T-28 there. What a machine!
  12. After a short amount of playing time: 1. Graphics look much better than at least one "competitor's" game I am also playing. 2. To my relief, it is not CMSF in WW2. It just feels right and appears to play even smoother than CMSF and its expansions on my computer. 3. The Battle briefs are truly works of art. I have not seen better in any other wargame I have ever played. Not good: So far, just the hedgegrow thing mentioned by the OP.
  13. Me too. But I'm looking forward to the free upgrade to Panzer Commander due out pretty soon. If you have Kharkov, you get Ostfront free.
  14. Yeah, I hope they at least patch it a couple of times. You never know.
  15. At GamersGate. Just an alert for those who did not buy right away at full price. Have fun, as that's a bargain!
  16. Something similar happened to me a while back. It's a real annoyance to buy all this cool hardware and the games don't work. Good news is you will get it straightened out.
  17. I have all the ToW versions, and finally took ToW1 off my hard drive, so I am weird. Naturally, I will go back to CMSF for a long time. And why not? They are different and both will remain of interest. But CMBN will have that special aura, because it actually happened. I agree the Syria thing was a weak link. Why didn't they just do a "flashpoint Germany" theme?
  18. I remember CMBO on the Mac IIsi (at work!). I was amazed. I'd come in on a Saturday and play that and those Atomic Games. At home I just had the old SSI stuff. Now I'm 54. I started in Manhattan in 1980. Don't remember Grail Quest, but was not into that genre.
  19. For me, it's a (mostly) flawed TTK. I enjoy the extended editor, Tow Kursk and the nice patch they gave us for that a long while back. I am not so sure about Korea yet. I play it when I feel lazy. Good question, though. Odds are, it will probably get more mass-market, RTS-like. Assuming it continues.
  20. The Sudden Strike series, and especially Blitzkrieg II, with its editor were exciting games when they came out. I never thought to compare them to the ToW series, and SS and BK has so many units. I have a rather crappy Quad Core with ATI 4650 but the lag isn't bad. I also play small battles though...
  21. There is great pleasure in designing an historical engagement to a "T". And then, you find it utterly boring to play. There are ways around it like Plastic Viking's "play the cards you are given" strategy. I don't think CMBN will ever be boring. But with most wargames now, I am designing the most fun and challenging (if ahistorical) situations imaginable.
  22. I've seen CMSF for $5, so would patch it up and give it a try, despite the lack of campaigns.
  23. That's the only neg about CMA, lack of scenarios. Luckily, I can create my own, but they suck. Most memorable moment--playing CMBB, and then CMA for the first time the same day. I almost ducked.
