  1. Got the same error as Piecekeeper and I'm running XP. Anyway, continued with the install. Then, I downloaded the patch manually and installed fine and up to date on the main screen. Anyway, I get the new maps, but not the new units. The thumbnails for them show question marks. If I try to include them in a scenario, it freezes. Also, they don't show up in either mission builder. Any thoughts?
  2. Thanks SR, I was waiting for something like this... I can assume the changes are naval/air as you said, with nothing much on the land-based side. I am new with this game--bought it the first day--and saving it for a rainy one, but will check out your file. Thanks again.
  3. Good to see something other than those "unplayable" comments. I too have seen amazing detail in both TOW2 and Kursk. The first patch for Kursk is a bit long in coming, but the internet attack and other issues can't be ignored. This is 1C's flagship sort of, so we are confident in future support of the game, and expansions we will pay for.
  4. I hope this new demo gives EoS sales a kick in the pants.
  5. This really keeps the game fresh. Thanks to all of you.
  6. Yes, RTS with no replay feature, it's hard to tell. I'll set up an infantry battle, keep pausing the action, and see! Morale is modeled, but I've never run out of ammo. The CM purist may not like these games, but I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of Centauro.
  7. Brit, I would love the option on the "X free production right from the beginning." And a better AI might be the needed hook for wargamers. The only company that brags about its AI--and gets away with it--is SSG. And even they have had their issues selling the latest AtD "expansion" at a $40 price. What hooked me immediately was the moddability and rulesets. Have I finished my own ruleset yet? Of course not!
  8. With almost 7,000 posts, you would know how it's done! That's the thing. I still like CMBB and CMAK but it takes a lot of work to play them right. I wonder if the same tactics are of any value in TOW2 Afrika and Kursk, or they just dumbed down the algorithms?
  9. If Elmar's suggestions work, I'm sure he will get a free copy. Excellent observations.
  10. Have to agree with Alan, here. I modded it a bit, but it was a bit far-fetched out of the box! But I love the Centauro add-on overall. Also wishing for a patch for Kursk, but that's another thread.
  11. Did Armchair General ever do a review of EoS? Still seems to be plenty of board gamers keeping Slitherine alive. Any thought to marketing to that audience?
  12. Thank you, Mr. Cater. That makes perfect sense and is a great addition to the game's editor. I actually have everything up to Global Conflict, but want to play them from the ground up to ease the learning curve and enjoy every new feature. Thanks again.
  13. Both North Afrika and Kursk continue to immerse me greatly. Stuff like watching a rifle team kill the crew of an AA gun, man it, and shoot down an enemy aircraft, only to have the piece removed from them in hand to hand fighting a few minutes later. What great AARs are made of. Have not had any big slowdowns with my non-gaming machine either. 3 Gigs and a 4850 running XP seems enough. Also, can't understand all the raving from some about Achtung Panzer. It is a great game designed by four people and was on sale for like $16. That is awesome. But graphics do matter, and AP's landscape looks like snow with dog crap strewn all over the place. Really murky and hard to get your bearings. It will take a lot of study due to interface issues, but I still like it. However, it does not come close to Kursk, plus there's no editor.
  14. Sorry, just moving up to SC2 W&W, from the vanilla version. Has anyone described how supression works and its affects on the enemy unit? Does arty always cause 100% supression, and what is the affect. The enemy unit can't fire back, I guess? Thanks. Haven't actually played a W&W scenario yet!
  15. These thoughts will probably insult your intelligence, but all I can think of right now: BF is a good place to be. But those half-price Steam sales move thousands of units. Probably not an option for you, though. Every EoS owner will hate me for this, but: You took the high road and patched first. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Put together a "quick" expansion with some cool features and a bunch of very different scenarios showing off flexibility of the system. Maybe get a little help from your friends on the scenario design side to ease the time burden. I think most of the buyers of this game would lay down $25 for an expansion based on loyalty alone. At least the ones that aren't hurting financially. If 60% of current owners bought the expansion, what would that do for you. I don't know.
  16. Hi Brit, Developers in general are becoming more pro-active, but the support you have given this game is unprecedented. I just typed in a relatively long reply, but was not allowed to post. This forum still isn't the same as before the attack. I will get back to it. Just wanted to show my support for your efforts.
  17. I have TOW 1, 2 and Kursk. I would invest in Kursk instead of paying a little less for the old game system. Kursk just looks and plays so much better. I never play TOW 1 anymore, if that is any indication. However, if you have an old computer, then check the Kursk demo first. Good luck.
  18. I don't post often, but wanted to thank you for the many updates. Developers in general are becoming more responsive, but you certainly are the best I have every seen. I'm sure I'll be more active once I get the time to really play the game!
  19. Thanks Robby1 and HardRock for posting. Now the rest of us know how to set up against the AI for a good game.
  20. I'm just glad that with the SC2 series of games--if you don't like something, you can change it. And I'm sure the devs take the comments of the veteran players to heart. I also hope someone will do something to make xwormwood smile again! It will be interesting to see how Making History II will play out. There's no way I'd buy it without a scenario editor, though.
  21. I would like to second those comments. The game is playing sweet and smooth. Thanks also for those posts on handling the patch. I wish you best sales success on this one.
  22. That's why I ordered my new computer last year with XP! Glad the mission generator thing got cleared up.
  23. I have not played SC series enough to know, but can we mod some artillery in by changing stats of another unit? It is surprising that the latest and greatest version is dropping units instead of adding them. I wonder why this decision was made?
  24. Just downloaded the mod, but have to learn the game first! Wanted to thank you guys for this tremendous effort. Kind of cool that AH lives on despite Hasbro.
  25. I think they have a "nice price" for the TOW2 bundle, as well. For what it's worth, I paid full price for the game and expansion ($70 total) and am very happy I did. You are basically getting a ton of new campaigns, scenarios, maps, units in a bug-free setting (based on my experience). Kursk will be icing on this cake. God bless!
