  1. I have every SC game so far, and love Hubert and the support of the team. But this purchase is going to be a tough one for me. I admit, I haven't done much more than look at the screen shots. I just don't know if I can do another SC game. The counters are so familiar...not that that is bad. Please someone, sell me on this one.
  2. Good stuff, for sure. And if your "Afgan tour" was the real thing, we have you to thank as well.
  3. That was an unusually good sale on Steam. I had everything but Caen, but bought the package mostly as a back-up to my BF installs. I am doubting Korea will be on Steam, although it's 1C's call, I guess.

Think you're right. Southern Front (Tiller?) requires CD in, but Alexandrian Wars (non-Tiller) doesn't.

Yes, I love CMBB and CMAK but hate the CD requirement--bought them years ago. I'm pretty sure HPS Alexandrian Wars didn't require the CD, so not sure about Southern Front. Anyone want it, or the Ancients Series, just ask. Also read David Heath of Matrix fame's father died. Sorry to have to pass that on. I'll stop now...

We should probably get back on topic, but I've got two copies of HPS Southern Front CD if you want one....

BTW, I've got some HPS titles, etc., just collecting dust. PM me if you want anything! Now back to EoS...

Yeah, and communicating via email or forums is prone to misunderstanding to say the least. You got your points, brotha. There is always hope. At least some people bought the game, some people are still talking about it, and Brit stops by now and then. I give you and some of the other posters credit for giving a damn. And I know he does, too. Best to you.

You are exactly right, Rich. I have not been careful enough. I am prone to impulse (pardon the pun) buying, but I am mending my ways. I will mention a few "strategy" games, as long as it doesn't get me thrown off the forums. Many more dogs in other genres: Star Sentinel Tactics--horribly retro, takes about 50 mouse clicks just to get your team ready to move out; marketed as a real "tactical" game, and you're shooting up alien monster blobs, marketed to come with an editor, but still doesn't have one... World Supremacy--check the forums, maybe someday it will be out of Beta... I bought it because I trusted Aaron. I have not given up yet... Pacific Storm Allies--huge potential, but it just stops working after a while... Settlers 7--I still can't install it with the Ubi DRM and 2 gig patch... Officers--good looking but completely unbalanced and uber difficult for most...has the most obtuse editor I've ever seen. Absolutely no patches or dev support. On the positive side, there are quite a few diamonds in the rough and all-around mind blowingly great games. I am close to being a senior and am thankful I have lived long enough to see some of them, including EoS.

Well, something needs to be done. "Unfinished" or not, I can list many games--none of which are from BF, BTW--that cost me $30+ and absolutely rot. Plus, no patches, no dev support, no nothing. Boy, I'd love to list them here... Other than the obvious Empire comparison, EoS is kind of unique. It's not WitE, but has a better editor; it's not HPS, but has a better interface; it's not Star Ruler, but is much more polished. And thank gosh it's not World Supremacy. Oops, I slipped... Marketing ideas have already been discussed. Still, I would put a glitzy wrapping on this game, for the least amount of time and money possible, say it does everything but the kitchen sink, which isn't stretching the truth that much, and hype the heck out of it on BF, Gamersgate, and Steam if they would accept it. They certainly seem happy to accept the most sophomoric games I have ever seen marketed! EoS is anything but. Maybe the best bet is some smart investor with money will see the potential in this game and finance Brit. Not to offend anyone, but with Faith nothing is impossible!
  11. Yes, unless you are completely adverse to using editors, it is worth the time. The mission generator is easy to use. The extended editor would allow you to edit the existing scenarios to make them easier or harder or just different. Not completely transparent, but even I was able to figure it out. It's one of the reasons I love this series.
  12. Yes, he was amazing with the patches. I never saw anything like it. And you and a couple of others gave him plenty of suggestions! So a small core group spent the time to make the game better and better. While most of us, including me, just sat on the sidelines. Maybe he was/is going through some real bad times. You just don't know what people may be going through personally. I'm hoping and thinking we'll see more from him. I'm not counting this game out yet, either.
  13. If someone paid for a game and also recalls a promise made by the dev that was not kept, he has the right to complain about it so at least BF hears him. BF is responsible and needs to make it right. I would give the person a refund, if I was BF. Heck, I've seen people bitching to devs about demos they are playing and didn't even pay for. On the other hand, there is something to be said for "forgiveness." In my experience, when you forgive someone, it takes the anger and bad feelings off of your own shoulders. And you actually start feel better than the guy you forgave! Then the guy you forgave starts to think on it, and he comes around. And the other people who have posted nasty comments here will move on. The person who "forgave" totally becomes the victor. I have done some things it wouldn't be right to post about. And I have been forgiven of them. What an awesome feeling.
  14. I guess that kind of ruins the suspension of disbelief that the AI is good. To go off-topic for just a second: Scott, do you think the AI in World Supremacy cheats, now that it actually has an AI? thanks guys
  15. All-seeing AI or not, I am curious: How does the AI perform in this game. Is it fun? Is it a challenge? Do you get the feeling that the AI is pretty good (a la WitE)? I tend to give a blind eye to AI "advantages" because I just want to feel like I'm being challenged. So how does this game rate in that dept?
  16. All I can say is I was thoroughly enjoying my mission making and playing of the original ToW last night. I have the whole series from BF and then bought them all again at that Steam sale because I had some issues with the editors on ToW 1 and 2. Despite some issues with MS's ridiculous Netframework, all games thru Caen work well. Coming back to ToW 1 on a faster computer, I was surprised how good it still is. Perfect game if you don't want the micromanagement of the Cmx1 series. Several minutes in the editor and there are some pretty wild battles to be had. The OP gave us another opportunity to remind ourselves and others what really good games these are.
  17. Yes, there's a right and wrong way to do it, but I'm sure even non-WWII gamers may be interested in this title. So we'll do what we can. Despite our impatience to see it released, I hope BF holds it until it's ready. Nothing worse for sales and PR than to release too early with lots of problems.
  18. I bought the game at full price and would do it again tomorrow.I guess the core audience at Steam is FPS and hot graphics. However, EOS is a better game than AI Wars, IMO. I'd love to see you make a bundle on a $10 sale over there. They do have that huge customer base. But you are not alone. I bet almost every wargame designer over at Matrix struggles, too. I'd agree an expansion that you could do quicker and sell for $20 could be a help. Probably jazz up the presentation a bit. It's an area fans like me don't care much about--I like the editor package the most--but most of us would spring for it. All you really need is a break on the marketing side, so I will say a prayer for that. Best to you!
  19. I like CMBN, but if the colon will sell more copies, then CM:BN. I'm going to be ostracized either way...
  20. We wouldn't want nukes to be exploding in the wrong location. Thank gosh it's a game. Merry Christmas, Brit.
  21. Thanks for the updates. This is very exciting news for BF customers. First, WitE on another front, and now this! Looking forward to it.
  22. Me thinks you're going to love it. And don't forget the full mission editor utility. You can do almost anything with a scenario. Even I figured it out.
  23. And no doubt, I will be buying it when it comes out. The HPS thing is more related to their already cumbersome game mechanics along with WWI movement. But Strategic Command was always quick to play, thank goodness.
  24. My first thoughts were Cold War, too. I just hope WWI won't be a snore. It will certainly be better than HPS latest effort. Truly a labor of love by the designer, but the game play is unbearably slow.
  25. Thanks for the tutorials, OP. Also, very interesting points, Erwin. I didn't know about the recon units. I know these tips have been posted here and there. Great if there was a compilation from more experienced players. Best to all
