CMFDR reacted to Lt. Smash in Lt. Smash's Floating Icons for Fortress Italy.
Hi, all. I just realized that my old mod for CMFI/GL never ported to the new CMMODs III. You can download the file here.
This mod replaces the default floating icons in Combat Mission: Fortress Italy (CMFI) and its Gustav Line module. These stylized icons are based on the U.S. War Department’s 1943 Basic Field Manual FM21-30 Conventional Signs, Military Symbols and Abbreviations. The icons have a slightly three-dimensional appearance so that they look like counters from traditional board-based war games. And, when the icon blinks (i.e., the unit is selected or wounded), the unit’s national flag is displayed. Detailed instructions included in the zip file explain what each symbol means and how to use the provided files.

CMFDR reacted to rocketman in Main menu text color?
I posted about this around the time FB was released and maybe you can dig that thread up. IIRC it was kind of complicated and could yield some messy results with other in game text. Doable, but not worth the effort for me. But please try. I like to make menu screen mods and some pics don't work well with stock color.

CMFDR reacted to Webwing in In Search of a Ghost - Campaign
Hi Guys,
I got an email today from a forum member asking me for the individual files for this campaign.
Fortunatelly I still could find them in an old HD.
I´m making them available from the link below.
This includes the individual files, the script for the campaign with all the parameters and also the pdf and complete campaign.
I spent a lot of time making it balanced, as much as possible, and did not antecipate scenarios being played individually. Now with the individual files available though you can make whatever changes you want to them.
Notice that this was made in 2007! It was the first user made campaign done for Shock Force.
Since it is this old though I have no idea how it runs today.

CMFDR reacted to Webwing in Painting skins video tutorial
These video tutorials are meant to get you started in the art of painting skins.
The focus is on basic Photoshop techniques, although you can transfer the concepts to any image manipulation software that has similar capabilities.
There are many ways and styles that can be used to paint skins. I tried to concentrate on what I think are the most simple and efficient for the beginner.
The skins done for CM:SF are fabulous works, created by a few very talented artists. This tutorials will not make you become one of them right away. It will take a lot more learning and practice, not to mention talent. But hopefully it will put you on the right track.
Coming soon! (Being uploaded to the server)
Tutorial 1 - Introduction
Tutorial 2 - Creating a base texture
Tutorial 3 - Creating volume.
Tutorial 4 - Adding Drop Shadows (you need to unRAR this one)
Tutorial 5 - Adding some screws
Tutorial 6 - Some fast and easy effects
Tutorial 7 - Working with more complex shapes

CMFDR reacted to JoMac in Red Thunder bugs
Interesting...v4.0 all Commanders are only supposed to have their Heads stick out and nothing more (v3.0 Commanders had their Heads & Torso stick out like the above)...I think, BF, just forgot to impose this on a few models, and would need corrected.

CMFDR reacted to TCMHQ in 20 new CMFB splash screens & 50 force specific backgrounds
Click on the pic to see a preview with a few examples
Gentlemen,
20 new CMFB splash screens plus 50 force specific backgrounds made from colorized WWII b&w pics can be downloaded here:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-11533493/TCMHQCMFBsplashscreensbackgrounds.zip.html
I don´t claim any copyrights for this stuff since I found the pics from various sources via google search.
Simply extrace the files into your z folder. To select a new splash screen go to the "user interface/splash screen" folder in the z directory
and rename your prefered file to "splash background.bmp".
Kind regards
Tom

CMFDR reacted to Kinophile in Your one golden Tactical Rule
I'm bored blind on set today so...
Interested in your 1 Golden Rule for combat within CMBS.
Now, I don't mean your various macro/micro tactics for the different units, but 1 simple, hard and fast tactical, in-battle rule you try to live and die by.
(nor do I mean your OOB selections etc)
Eg.
1. Always have a flanking attack as part of my main attack.
I call it my Perpendicular Rule - whatever attack is launching also have a secondary attack perpendicular to the main axis. I find every single time I ignore that rule it costs me far too much to succeed.
I apply this at the map wide scale all the way down to Squad/vehicle level.
I'm sure this is blindingly obvious to anyone with military training, but it's still no harm to articulate it :-)

CMFDR reacted to MOS:96B2P in New Scenario: Tactical Operations Center
Funny you should ask.
A new CMSF2 scenario Coup d'etat was just released to Beta testers yesterday. I will start a new forum topic for it in the CMSF2 Maps and Mods forum thread in a few days. This one is from the POV of rebels attempting to overthrow a corrupt regime with an early morning (0400hrs) Coup. It also features a modified military grid system and intelligence. In addition it uses all the cool features of CMSF2, IEDs, VBIEDs, spies, combatants, fighters, bridge demolition, etc. It also makes heavy use of triggers and has a variable ending time. A player can choose to fight on for about an extra hour however the regime OpFor will be awarded extra victory points. So every decision has advantages and disadvantages for the player to make based on his interpretation of the intelligence and his feel for the developing situation.
An early morning explosion as viewed by US Marines from the rooftop of the US Consulate.

CMFDR got a reaction from Sequoia in CMx2 Exploded Files' Index
Here is an index of all files one can explode (extract) from the brz files. CMSF2 is not included, yet.
Out of curiosity, here are the # of items that comes with each game :
CMBN : 12 192 items CMFI : 15 628 items CMFB : 13 285 items CMRT : 7 000 items CMBS : 9 141 items > CMx2ExplodedFilesIndex (Google Sheet)
As for what it can be useful to, sky is the limit. I use to find where is what, to guess what files the games have in common and if there's something missing in my mods collection, eg.

CMFDR reacted to Offshoot in What do normal maps do?
A normal map gives the impression of form without using actual geometry. Normal mapping is a render effect that allows you to add detail to a model in the rendered image without having to add extra polygons. Normal maps do not change the silhouette of a model though, so they are best used to add finer detail and to accentuate/smooth the existing form.
The results you get from using an automatic normal map generator will vary depending on what images you use as input. If using existing CM textures you could get some interesting results if, for example, the texture has a camouflage pattern on it with light and dark areas next to each other. You can also hand paint normal maps (or a greyscale height map and then convert it using software like xNormal), but the best way is to start with a low-resolution model that you increase the resolution of and then model/sculpt detail into and then use software that compares the low- and high-resolution models to generate the normal map (the normal map is then applied to the low-resolution model in-game).
-
CMFDR reacted to Offshoot in CMx2 Exploded Files' Index
It seems that if you create a new temporary filter from the top left menu you can then apply column filters. I have filters working for all sheets.
Just a note, but for the Red Thunder and Black Sea sheets the "Path" for the v100a BRZ files includes the BRZ name, which doesn't seem to be your convention for the rest of the files. This means that the "Bulk" column has this name duplicated, e.g. "red thunder v100a\red thunder v100a". For Red Thunder this is also repeated in the WW2 sheet.
Not a biggie but it could mess with filtering.
