We need more modders and scenarios makers
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Ironcross12's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Outstanding.....Many thanks! PS - The map should look pretty similar, but I'll be swapping out a few things to get a slightly more 'Central Asian' feel (Fragmentistan is loosely modelled on Dagestan/Chechnya). -
Can we have 'em for 'H&E'?
-
Once again I'm gong to nominate 'Hammertime' by @George MC.....I've always enjoyed it in is various iterations, even had a go at making one of my own (which would work a lot better in CM:SF2 than it did in CM:SF1 come to think of it).
-
Take off and nuke the site from orbit.....It's the only way to be sure!
-
What kind of scenario do you want to play? More or less anything in CM:SF2 is challenging if you play it as Red.
-
Do you have CM:A? The Uncons in that game have so much potential for an asymmetric campaign, but it's bloody difficult to write good scenarios for them with only 8 AI Groups & no triggers (although it does have exit zones, which are very important for that style of play).....It doesn't seem to like Win10 very much either.

Russian army under equipped?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to lordhedgwich's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Not sure what any of that's got to do with the relative strength of Russian forces in CM:BS TBH.....But, FWIW: https://consortiumnews.com/2020/12/20/vips-memo-to-biden-dont-be-suckered-on-russia/ Make of it what you will. -
Is that tumbleweed?
-
All we would really need to truly get the most from that look are some Uncons & some time. You might be amazed what people can make with CM.

Very cool....Love the 'uniforms'.

Activating Battle Pack module
Sgt.Squarehead replied to SlowMotion's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Maybe try this: Hi all! Now that Upgrade 4 is out and about in large quantities we have now discovered a few SNAFUs that happen out in the scary, real world that is home computing. We've identified a few issues that have similar causes which we have clear instructions for work arounds here they are: 1. CMRT Windows customers need to re-license their original key. This is a result of improvements to the licensing system which CMBN, CMBS, and CMFB are already using. To do this launch CMRT with the Upgrade and the first time enter your Engine 4 key. Exit and then use the "Activate New Products" shortcut in your CMRT folder (or CMRT Documents folder for MacOS), then enter your Engine 3 license key. That should do the trick. 2. CMBN MacOS customers must re-license all previously purchased license keys using "Activate New Products" is inside the Documents folder. You have to go through the process for each of your CMBN license keys. There is no special order to follow. 3. For CMBS and CMFB customers, you need to use the Activate New Products shortcut and enter your Upgrade 4 key. If you launch the game and see a screen that says "LICENSE FAILURE: Base Game 4.0 is required." that is an indication you haven't yet gone through that procedure. Provided you had a properly functioning copy before installing the Upgrade, that should be all you need to do. If in the future you have to install from scratch on a new system you'll need to do the same procedure for both your original license key and your Upgrade 4.0 key. 4. There's always a weird one and here it is. A few Windows users are not getting "Activate New Products" shortcuts created during installation. Apparently anti-virus software is preventing the installer from doing its job. This might not be a problem right now, but it will prove to be an issue at some point in the future. The solution is to create your own shortcut using the following steps: Disable your anti-virus software before you do anything. Go to your Desktop, right click on the Desktop itself, select NEW->SHORTCUT, use BROWSE to locate the CM EXE that you are trying to fix. The location is then written out. After it type in a single space and then paste this: -showui Click NEXT and give your new Shortcut a name (doesn't matter what). Confirm that and you're done. Double click on the new Shortcut and you should be prompted to license whatever it is you need to license. This worked for me in the past, but I'll put a shout out to @BFCElvis anyway.....Just to be on the safe side. -
Massively too high IMHO.....I'd set them at 5-10% maximum (the loss of a single Challenger II should probably result in a defeat). The loss of three Challengers would represent about 1% of the total UK MBT force.....The loss of even a single Challenger II would be headline news, hell even damaging one warrants a report by the beeb: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6583607.stm

BMP 2 has NO night vision capability??
Sgt.Squarehead replied to SDG's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
I'm assuming passive mode is an image intensifier? -
Can't find anything for Hotton.....But there's a trio of maps for 'Hatten' (Hot Time In Hatten): Could those have been what you were thinking of?

Khabour Trail: Screenshot AAR
Sgt.Squarehead replied to DerKommissar's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
The first mission of this campaign really does my head in.....I always take much too long moving into the 'yards' (usually taking no casualties at all) then have to rush things entering the city (taking lots, then rage-quitting). I know how I 'should' do it now, but my commander wouldn't, so I play it accordingly.....More time really would help IMHO. -
Playing the Reds is a lot of fun, isn't it?

Artillery broken against sub-systems
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Pelican Pal's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
Yes they do.....But a 10g lump of shell casing travelling at 250m/s will tear through them like a knife through butter.....Take a look at the data (& images) in this thread: PS - Apparently you have already read it: You were right.....They were wrong. Total immunity failure. -
Looking at the parapet of the tower in comparison to the height of the gun trunnions, I reckon direct fire is out of the question.

@IanL & @MOS:96B2P I think this chap has discovered a bit of an issue! -
If you have the CM:RT demo installed, the scenario 'Monster Mash' has a lot re-playability.....Still one of my favourite scenarios.

We need more modders and scenarios makers
Sgt.Squarehead replied to Ironcross12's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Yes please.....That would be perfect (I didn't want to mess with your scenario map, as I intend to play the battle). That would be ideal.....My intent is to convert it to CM:BS, for my 'Fragmentistan' concept. -
What's the best WWII raid operation?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to arpella72's topic in General Discussion Forum
I'm going to go with Operation Biting, for the sheer bloody cheek of it. -
Not 100% sure they would be firing full weight rounds in these circumstances.....A sub-calibre practice round would seem a safer option (but it is the Russians, so I'm not completely ruling it out).

That is indeed a magnificent map! Is there any chance I could grab a blank version please (one with no flavour objects would be ideal)? It would be for distinctly 'alternative' use (with a little help from my friends, I hope). -
What game do I buy?
Sgt.Squarehead replied to PTHoorah's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
If you can afford the bundle, do it.....The chances are that you will buy it all anyway, eventually. So why not just save yourself the time & money?
