  1. This thread has a good discussion of the subject, mostly from the CM:BS perspective:
  2. Looks cool, I'll definitely take a look.....Might help me break the deadlock I'm having with a few of my own concepts.
  3. Yup.....There's a big difference between these early scenarios and the stuff that was written later. Check out @George MC's stuff.....'Hammertime', in its various incarnations, is one of my favourite CM:SF scenarios for either game. As Blue you can do the usual surgical elimination of Red's units, but if you screw up, or underestimate your opponents, you will pay. PS - @Combatintman's scenarios are pretty good too!
  4. It's actually possible to play either side in a campaign.....Requires an enormous amount of work by the designer and it only really works for Red vs Red scenarios in CM:SF2 (or other variants of that game like 'Heaven & Earth'), but it is technically doable (more so with mods). The mighty @MOS:96B2P discovered/invented it.
  5. That's probably the nicest thing I've ever heard said about the Saxon.....Callng it an APC is a bit generous though.
  6. CMFN? CM:BN or CM:FI I can understand.....Maybe @BFCElvis will do better?
  7. Probably shouldn't have sold all those T-80UDs to Pakistan, that was a fine tank in its day: IIRC it's the main reason that modern NATO 'long-rods' are quite so long.
  8. I see second/third hand Leopards in their not too distant future.
  9. I remember something along those lines being reported right back when CM:SF2 was first released.....Sounds like one for @IanL or @MOS:96B2P to check out (wondering if it's because the map was ported directly fom CM:SF1).
  10. I'd be very surprised if anyone here didn't know what a panoramic sight is.....After all CM:BS' mighty BM Oplot has the biggest example in the known universe:
  11. Try a cluster of buildings on stilts. Never have I clicked so much to achieve so little!
  12. Pz.II Ausf L Luchs is (my favourite little tank) and massively over represented in CM.....Only 100 were ever made. They equipped the recon battalions of only two panzer divizions, 4th & 9th.....That represents about half of the total production. Other than that they were as rare as rocking-horse poop, scattered around German units in tiny numbers (IIRC 116 Panzer Division had a few and consequently there are captured examples at Bovington & Saumur):
  13. Nah, the spotting's dodgy. The ability of US tanks to spot stationary/concealed units on their flanks, while moving, and often before those units can spot them is beyond ridiculous.....Superior thermal imaging doesn't make 70 ton tanks disappear in broad daylight at sub 1km ranges.
  14. Interesting post, glad you brought the subject back up.....Your comments match my own experiences, particularly this bit: Hiding on floors above ground level, but below the top floor seems the safest bet.....The TacAI likes to have units retreat to ground level, but as you note, this can actually make things worse. I'd put this down to body armour, or the lack thereof at a guess.
  15. Until the cooling stops, at any rate.
  16. This kind of feeds back to my point about duration, establishing the location of that weak-point and positioning troops for one's chosen assault can take time if one wants to do it without needlessly exposing them.....A lot of scenarios seem to assume the player will instantly understand the layout of the opposing force and react appropriately, first time.
  17. I accept the point about the StuG/PAK, but the latter one seems fair enough to me....."Hans ze shelling has gestopped!"
  18. Or just wait for them to do something obvious & dumb, then brutally punish them for it.....So yeah, I suppose the boxing analogy works.
  19. As @RepsolCBR advises, just a few thoughtfully chosen & placed flavour objects can really help to increase the feeling of immersion. If you decide a building is a petrol station/garage, give it a couple of pumps, maybe some spare tyres lying around, that sort of thing. Above all, if you are making a fictional area, indulge yourself and have some fun with it.
  20. This. Just to be on the safe side: @BFCElvis I think this gentleman may need your assistance, if you aren't giving it already.
  21. And once again we are in agreement.....I couldn't have put it better. The abilities of certain units to apparently 'cloak' themselves (usually just before their opponent gets a firing solution) is a bit odd too.....It was somewhat noticeable in CM:SF (Red tanks losing sight of Blue tanks at point-blank range, while pointing their main gun straight at them), but it's got to silly levels in this game (M1A2 Abrams flitting in and out of visibility like a Klingon Bird of Prey, while a plethora of thermal imager equipped opponents have clear LOS to their location).
