  1. Sounds good to me. I've not been too impressed with 'the movies' overall for a while now, I seem to be too wrapped up in historical stuff, there's always so much more to learn.....Having said that I'm quite happy to knock up an entirely fictional campaign!** **Actually I must confess it's two now.....I'm already messing with CM:BS to create a 'Return To Fragmentistan' set a decade or so later. Somebody (I forget who, but a big thank you to them, whoever they were! ) did a splendid job of bulk converting CM:FB maps to CM:BS, they are very different from the usual CM:BS fare and I just couldn't resist trying to use them for something. I've built a humongous Russian core using mostly Ukrainian units (all the tanks are T-64BVs) and will be using devious means to create the bad guys (Mostly Ukrainian Supply Platoons with bazillions of attached Specialist Teams, probably entitled 'Achmed's Brigade' or similar).
  2. Dude if we could do 41-43 in France I'd be well up for it. Partisan/UnCon warfare is my preferred 'cup of tea' and the CM engine does a bloody good job of it too.....It's well satisfying to use a dozen men or so to create utter chaos, then bug out through an exit zone before you get hit back (I've been trying with limited success to maintain this 'vibe' in my CM:A Blue campaign).
  3. Cheapo drones are a good investment to test the waters for a possible helo strike.
  4. Grey vs. Green in the east first.....Please! I really miss scaring puny-panzers with KVs.
  5. Did you buy any helos to torment him with after you've swatted his Tunguskas?
  6. That certainly avoids confusion.....Cheers. PS - Does something in the commander's optic make this calculation for him, compensating both for the rotation of the turret and the rotation of his cupola?
  7. Risky against peer opponents, any form of remote control is prone to jamming or even subversion, which leaves cables.....Ask a Goliath team how well that works on an active battlefield.
  8. Me too now dude.....Tankists? Can we get a definitive answer please?
  9. "Gunner, cease-fire you fool.....You are shooting completely the wrong way!" PS - This has got me wondering.....Are target bearings in a tank given relative to its heading? I'm having doubts now.
  10. I thought we'd finally come up with a crafty plan to get Calais back. Sadly disappointed when the first thing to emerge from it wasn't a Squadron of Challengers, guns'a'blazing!
  11. Wotcha testing then? If it's for CM:SF II that's great news.....But hurry up!
  12. You make the map.....I'll write the scripts! PS - The Mercedes might be a problem, even in CM:SF. PPS - My initial plan for this map is exactly as described above, a Russian Air-Assault Battalion (well, part of one) will be dropping in for a friendly visit, some of them will be in their BMD-2s.....Think 'Hot LZ', you'll be on the right track!
  13. You can add that yourself! As you know I've been following the various threads discussing alternative campaign concepts and thought I might try something very small along similar lines, perhaps a company of DRA infantry assigned to secure a critical sector of the highway, something like that.....I already had an extended version of the basic map (the road network connects in the north), but like most of the default maps it's not terribly Afghan looking so I decided to have a play around. As I said, I'd already connected up the northern bridge (which is actually a ford now) with the road leading north out of the old town/village/whatever, I then stripped the map right back.....I've remodelled the contours (it's actually still on-going) to open up alternative routes along the various valleys, the foliage is being replaced based on what I'm seeing in photos from the Korengal (& elsewhere, I'm trying to make this map as broadly representative and useable as possible). I've also completely redistributed the settlement pattern, there are now quite a lot more buildings on the map and the compounds in particular are total fortresses, so making friends with the local Tribals might be a good idea. Here's a view of the most complete section along the highway to give you a broader overview of the new terrain (this is the bit I'm currently working on): PS - I got a bit creative with the final compound in the former town/village/whatever area, so we now have a mosque: More baldness on the far side of the highway.....Haven't touched that bit yet.
  14. The CM:FI Training Campaign is the best by far IMHO.....Great intro to the game.
  15. I really don't know what to say about this one: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/16/romanian-court-tells-man-he-is-not-alive
  16. Definitely my favourite of the WWII titles.....Couldn't tell you exactly why, but it is.
  17. My first attempt at an all original map is underway, 'Fragmentistan Airport': So far I've mapped in the contours (which don't exactly show up brilliantly here, trust me there really are some) and laid out the runways and main taxiways and just because it's fun, I built the main terminal building: Loads more to do before this one is ready for a visit from an Air Assault Battalion.
  18. Some views from my remodelled version of 'QB Afghan M-R sno_21', the big map with the highway and the river valley: The village has moved slightly.....As seen here from the mine across the valley: It's small, but it's quite tightly packed in there: And they have some lovely gardens: On the flat ground by the river (where the village used to be) we now have several farming compounds (still one more to build in this area on the left) and associated fields and some warehousing/industrial buildings (the new hill village is just visible top left): The current baldness of the valley on the right is a bit embarrassing (I took out all the original foliage & almost all of the flavour objects), but those familiar with the original may note that the contours are subtly different, allowing some slightly more interesting routing for small infantry units. All subject to change as constant tweaking and revision takes place across the whole map.....Slow process, but it makes a pleasant change from the claustrophobic streets of Mosul. Comments from anyone who's been to Afghanistan would be very welcome, I'm basing my work on images from the Korengal Valley.
  19. Thin sheet metal by the look of it.....In a couple of images it looks slightly tail heavy, which does make me reconsider the possibility that it's actually a T-72 with a funky new turret, perhaps the new bustle is more than the rear torsion bars can handle? Are the road-wheels T-72 type they look different to those on the T-90MS.....I don't know enough about them to be sure?
  20. Well at least we're talking about tanks again.....I've made it clear on several occasions that I claim no particular knowledge of modern AFVs (but I'm a fast learner and I'm good at finding things).
  21. Khorramshahr is an Iranian missile, not a tank. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khorramshahr_(missile The Karrar doesn't look terribly Ukrainian to me: I'd say it's derived from the T-90MS.....Indeed I'd say it almost certainly IS an export version of the T-90MS. PS - Wondering if the black paint isn't to hide all the little details it lacks, like a LWS.....It's visible on the MS but I can't see the sensors on the Karrar.
  22. If someone could convert it to CM:BS I'd certainly be up for a shot at that.....I like modern urban fights.
  23. Interesting that a couple of Abrams users (Iraq & Egypt) have placed orders for the T-90.....Does this suggest that the Russians are willing to export more capable versions of their MBTs than the US or is there something else at play? Consider that my token effort to get this thread vaguely back on track.
