caar Once Upon a Time on the Western Front
sburke replied to Bud Backer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
One of the cool things about this game and this community is there are so many perspectives and ways to enjoy it. I think I have only really seen this in RPG stuff. Rock on @Bud Backer -
Clearly a lack of cow patties.

I think those Syrians play too much CM. I notice they run single file just like my guys. Think they use CMSF as an infantry primer?

AAR - A Lesson in Defense
sburke replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yeah that swing to his left is the safest route of advance, I think that was the same path I used... mostly. Be curious to see what he does next compared to what I did. Ahh just finished reading scoutPL’s post. Didn’t realize this one was over. Anyway what I did once on your right was to spread out laterally along the hedgerows, stretching the defense and probing for holes. If I recall correctly I eventually had almost completely encircled the American position. The German mortars assisted a lot as they had good observation on the hill. Eventually the cracks started showing. It is a lot of ground the Ami’s have to cover. -
Ukrainian Side is Seriously Underpowered

Interesting from the perspective of CMBS backstory and Stryker deployment. One wonders about their effective mobility in seasonal bad weather.- 236 replies

AAR - A Lesson in Defense
sburke replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This is a little misleading. Having played this one a few times, La Madeline is up slope a bit though still lower than the farm. This presents some difficulty for the Germans as they are moving downhill initially and they are even more exposed than if it were as show above. If your opponent hasn't already fired smoke, they may have a helluva time moving forward. Once they get to the "valley" floor they are in much better covered terrain. -
Am able to reproduce. Was curious why I never saw this despite playing a lot of CMBS. The parameters are a little specific, though the behavior is still weird. The CLU or lack thereof is the trigger and it only shows from my tests if the Jav team is actually in the squad's platoon. I tried with a Jav asset at company and Bn level and they do not replicate the behavior. It seems to be a combination of a ToE artifact related to the Javelin and ammo sharing. I think why I never saw this is I've always acquired the CLU by the squad and never tried having someone else grab the Javelin that didn't already have a CLU or wasn't in the squad's pltn organization. I also have not played much with supply dumps and it seems they do not come with a CLU so you need to watch out who does the acquiring. No idea when this behavior started. As late as this week I've played a bunch with acquisition of Javs etc, and hadn't seen this, but was able to duplicate it immediately. Doublechecked this just to make sure Bazookas did not replicate and they do not. Purchase a stryker pltn hq, 1 squad and jav team all from same formation (Jav team is purchased and attached to inf pltn. A Jav team not part of the squad's pltn organization will not show this effect) Take squad. Move into vehicle acquire 1 Jav . squad now shows 1 Jav in inventory Existing Jav team has CLU and 2 missiles showing. Move inf squad next to jav Jav team now shows 4 missiles Split AT team off of Squad. Team B (AT team) shows no Javs in inventory Team A still shows the one Jav in inventory Jav team inventory now shows 3 missiles When Team B eventually merges back with team A, Jav team inventory jumps to 4 missiles. If AT team splits off again and team A is moved away, Jav team now just shows original 2 missiles. Take Team A, move into vehicle and acquire CLU. Unit now shows 2 Javs. Move team A next to Jav team. Jav team now shows 3 missiles though team A shows 2 and Jav team has 2. When squad merges formation Jav team shows 4 missiles as it should.

A bit of feedback for When Trumpets Fade

Or it could be just burn out. Just look at the volume of work Mord put into the unit icons. When it starts to feel like a regular job, it is no longer fun. -
2 Years, 1 month, and 10 days, since Rome module

Just have the eagles fly you there. It will save 2 volumes on your trilogy and save countless lives. Though far less dramatic. And Sean Bean might actually survive a movie.- 83 replies

AAR - A Lesson in Defense
sburke replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I've played this PBEM on both sides. It is a really well done scenario and I am anxious to see how you approach it. Been too long since you've done an AAR. Huzzah! -

Seriously any more you'll have to get Steve's answer. Not trying to be secretive, I think Steve may even have discussed here I just don't feel it is my place to talk about BF internals. (and I am too lazy to search to see what Steve might have already said ).

The "hairpiece" is actually a vx sniffing creature, so it will spot the poison burger. Then he'll eat it anyway cause he doesn't take advice.

Not surprisingly that one is compliments of @Pete Wenman I recommend reading his designer notes on it as he has some play suggestions to make it a little more ... interesting. -
My post was a joke... sort of. Actually it is reality, but it seems reality is a joke....

Not sure, but it very well may be we attack S Korea first..... WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday that Donald Trump had been referring to a call with South Korea's leader when he appeared to suggest a landmark direct contact with the nuclear North. Trump raised eyebrows at a Washington media dinner on Saturday when he said "they, by the way, called up a couple of days ago and said 'we would like to talk.' "And I said, 'so would we, but you have to de-nuke, you have to de-nuke,'" Trump added. A senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that Trump had in fact been referencing a call he had on Thursday with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

confused for some years now about version numbering
sburke replied to Rongor's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
I'd agree it was a mess for sure. I don't agree that it still is. There is now a single installer and you activate the specific items you've purchased. When they release new material, you refresh the DL and apply any new material activations for stuff you purchased, If you purchase any additional modules, you just use the activation as your original full installer download has it already. I can't see it getting any simpler than that. I don't see anything prohibitive in that. If you have not gotten to the point of utilizing the full installer, yeah maybe, but it is so darn easy to do now I can't see what is stopping anyone from making the leap. -

New features curiosity

Until someone can post a save to look at I don't believe it. I suspect from some of the posts above that a basic misunderstanding of how spotting works in the game is at play.
