Combat Mission Commander (Campaign Tool)
sburke replied to Falke88's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
@Broadsword56 would be better able to answer owning the game the units are generally companies. Hexes are as I recall a couple hundred meters and time scale is kind of variable in that a single unit could be activated more than once in a turn, but there was a cost to doing so. It was a very good basis for a campaign layer in that the battles fit well for CM scale and we'd pick and choose which battles to fight out in CM so we only had the more interesting critical ones. It was still after all this time one of my best Combat Mission experiences. If you hit the link in my sig for Hamel Vallee there is a lengthy AAR that goes into the campaign layer, map creation etc- and this was before CM had overlays. Broadsword did an amazing job running the campaign, creating maps etc. -
Submit a ticket to the help desk, pretty sure they can sort you out.

It would need to be redone as there are new models, but yeah it looks really cool.

MOUT and urban counterinsurgency (and CM)

I cited a New York Times article. I prefer the written form of the “fake news” media. -

Yeah saw a long article on it yesterday and it compared the public statements to the reality on the ground. Things are pretty fluid and communications with Ghazni were cut early making any clear cut statement that all is well highly suspect at best https://nyti.ms/2OrdGl5?smid=nytcore-ios-share -
CMSF 2 BETA AAR #2 – Syrian Probe (Quick Battle)
sburke replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 2
Yep great step up. Why I remember when he was just handing out towels in the beta tester club washroom. He later graduated to coach check and then there was that fateful day when c3k showed up and Ian was waiting with a whiskey and properly clipped cigar. New vistas opened up... Someday maybe I'll be able to make that same leap. Oh sorry mister Hardenberger, here is your towel. Yes I am sorry I apologize for allowing it to get cold, let me grab you another. sigh -
if it helps you could always look at the mod he created for CMSF and see if you can reverse engineer. Those do work for CMSF2.

Ha I am the wrong person to ask. Kieme would be where I'd start, but he hasn't visited the forum in over 2 years.

It can be done. Kieme has a really good set for CMSF, but it will take work. Another thing he added was roof access panels so you can actually see where troops enter and exit rooftops.

He is actually asking a different question. CMFI has buildings with the image of balconies, but not actual balconies. These are on 2 sets of independent buildings. They are just about my favorites for adding some flare to a street without suffering the corresponding tactical issues of balconies.

And Why Is There No Merchandise Anyway?

You realize there are a couple ways one could take that question? Not that there is anything wrong with that. -

more UK troops in Afghanistan. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/why-are-more-troops-going-to-afghanistan/ar-BBLR0g2?ocid=spartanntp -
First off nice try, but we don't get to dictate. Why? Because the above statement for example reflects an assumption- patently false that only one game can be worked on at a time. There is a division of labor which means if Charles is waiting on something from someone else he should do nothing basically wasting time he could spend on another title. That is something you should understand if you are going to make suggestions and if you don't understand it you should refrain.
-
you can try, but movement pathing gets weird. Broadsword and I did a battle once with a Multi story building simulating basement. It got really weird when the arty collapsed the building.
-
highly unlikely. Basements would require altering the terrain mesh and Steve has been pretty adamant that will not happen.

true dat -
Let’s just stop, this isn’t the way we should be interacting and it will lead to an admonishment from Steve which frankly is time he could be spending on the store.

This isn’t productive. I understand some folks would really like solid dates, hell so would I. However in almost 20 years we should learn by now that is t gonna happen unless Steve decides to arbitrarily set overly long lead times which would simply set people off in a different direction. Sometimes Steve sets a general target. CMSF2 as a case in point. The scope of the project was to”just” get CMSF2 into the 4.0 engine If they had strictly adhered to that he *might* hVe kept to the timeline. Other things intruded like the website, some summer vacation time etc. Howevdr fortunately for us BF did not stick to that strictly limited scope. They added on board mortars, redid the TOEs and updated items etc etc so the end result is the date slipped but we end up with a better product. Arguing over that now is just pointless. First off you’ll likely not convince someone who likes more communications and better timelines that they should just give up on that. It just isn’t how they are wired. They may theoretically understand the point, but that isn’t gonna stop them from wanting. On th other hand those who want have to understand that if the scope changes, which we know it did, then the timing is gonna shift. The thing is the items added came in incrementally so it isn’t like Steve would have been able to reset expectations at just one point.
-
Heh. Being in telecom IT for 30 + years I challenge anyone to be good at that. The way I handle my personal frustration with BF products always missing dates is knowing I have nothing dependent on when they deliver, it is just a past time (just? ). Whatever the timing I do know I am getting a damn good product I can’t always say that about stuff I buy. Steve could have just said CMSF2 will be out in July 2019. He’ll beat that date. Would you be happier?
-
You only get the preowner discount for the items you already own so yes regarding the modules.

Ooooh... Aaaaah... CMSF2 homepage is up!

We just got this request at work to ballpark the cost of a project. It is a major project. They said don’t take more than 30 minutes which led to 30 minutes of laughter.
