Red Thunder or Fortress Italy?
rocketman replied to Abdolmartin's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
I'd go for RT if you want more content and mods, but the setting is similar to BS. CMFI seems a bit "dead" at the moment, not many new scenarios or campaigns. Maybe it will take off again with the next module. I like both games for different reasons. The main attraction of FI is the scenery with big hills and valleys. -

I'm routing for "Cute Tank" to be the hero in the battle along with "Tube Guy" taking out Ken's last vehicle on the last minute on top of the last object. -
comic Rundstedt Sends His Best - a CMFB Comic AAR
rocketman replied to Bud Backer's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Bud, you're in the class of a Wayne Vasant. Not only great looking comic book action, but well written dialoge and use of sound effects. Brilliant -
Wow. That says it all. Soo good looking screenshots.

I've seen this in the other CM games as well, so unlikely considered a bug or anamoly in FB. -

Close combat to the extreme. Was anyone left standing? Who? -

Being someone who has pretty much no sense of direction and have a hard time piecing together "mental maps" of known locations - they are very helpful to follow the action. -
116th Panzer Division "Wind Hund"
rocketman replied to AttorneyAtWar's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
I'm also having a look at Command Ops 2 and very much like the game so far, especially the AI and the "no-turn-wego" mechanic. Steep learning curve as one has to think in a new and operational way and not micro manage (which I am prone to). I'm going to get the Market Garden as the first module and then one of the Bulge ones. -

Really evocative - use it more. Adds drama and immersion. -
"The Red Army continues to advance with great success, crushing most of the German resistance in the process. However, pockets of German resistance slow the advance. Up ahead, in the outskirts of a small rural town, is a local church in which German stragglers have taken refuge, awaiting rescue, as the main German force retreats. The church sits on a hill overlooking lake Kolja. It is an important OP to overlook the retreat in the area. Secure the church. POW:s might provide valuable information on the retreat and what German units the main force consists of. Also secure the area west of the bridge to halt any counter-attacks and pave the way for closing the gap to the retreating Germans. One forward scout car got knocked out when approaching the bridge and church area. It is unsure what took it out – so stay alert." Tiny fictional scenario. Soviet vs German only. http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-red-thunder/cm-red-thunder-add-ons-scenarios/the-last-resort/ Thanks to all those who playtested it at The Proving Grounds.

My impression is that the engine gets more optimized for every new game installment, and that this isn't evident to the same degree for patches/updates to engine. Could be wrong though. Also, some maps in BN I think take the most toll on the engine - lots of bocage and woods as well as size.

Final Blitzkrieg release update
rocketman replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Thanks for the info Chris. If you have time to polish the game, can we get some new background sounds? -
Which CM-games are sluggish? I find that there is some noticable difference (same size scenario, number of units, landscape) between different games, in that BS runs much smoother than FI. RT is second and BN third.

Battlefield app for scenario making
rocketman replied to rocketman's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
It is for iPad so iTunes is where to look. akd, how are the battle descriptions with regard to detail? -
Has anyone seen this for scenario making: https://itunes.apple.com/se/app-bundle/battlefield-mapps-bundle/id918177154?mt=8 It is an app with period maps of Market Garden and Bulge, with (what seems like) detailed descroption of battles and units in action.

Preview of the first Battle Pack
rocketman replied to JonS's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
It was not meant to be a "DO THIS" kind of thing but a suggestion of what people are interested in, and would work as ideas for scenario makers if they WANT to do it. Not else. As a scenario maker myself, I understand it, but wouldn't mind getting ideas from other people. -
What did you finally settle for and how does it play? I will file a review in any case, since high end graphics cards and CM needs a close view.

Preview of the first Battle Pack
rocketman replied to JonS's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
We could do a poll for most wanted battles and the winning ones will be made by top notch scenario designers and be put up for sale. How about that? Supply and demand -
Thanks for the heads up Bulletpoint. I will definitely take that into consideration.
