Building textures are simple to do (in theory). You use the Rez Explode app that comes with the game to extract the original building façade artwork from the brz file. Then you paint over the art any way you want. The indi building exterior walls are labeled for front, back & side first floor and front, back & side the higher floors. Modular building exterior walls are labeled bottom. middle and top.
You can imagine something as simple sounding as that turns out to be very complex in practice. But that's what makes modding a good hobby.
As for getting the game to look like modern Ukraine, last time I checked Google Earth Street View was still working. You can peer into people's back yards and into their kitchen windows to your heart's content. Let me check it out. Yup. Welcome to beautiful suburban Kiev which resembles pretty much any suburb on the planet.

You can work up a variety of decent looking modern office buildings using the long window facade with no balconies. The doors to nowhere won't function.

if it helps you could always look at the mod he created for CMSF and see if you can reverse engineer.  Those do work for CMSF2.

It can be done.   Kieme has a really good set for CMSF, but it will take work.  Another thing he added was roof access panels so you can actually see where troops enter and exit rooftops.

The map and AI plans are all TheVulture's work; I just converted it to CM:BS using a hex editor and picked some suitable replacement units. Glad to hear you're enjoying it though.

Wow, thanks guys! I downloaded a hex editor and was able to import the "Getting Ugly" map into CM:BS. It looks pretty damn good right off the bat but on closer inspection I am sure there will be some flavour object issues etc. You have inspired me to make a conversion of "Getting Ugly" from CM:RT to CM:BS. Same situation (Russians assaulting retreating enemy) but updated to modern day Russia vs Ukraine / NATO. Should be a blast!

@HUSKER2142 @John Kettler when I started wargaming/building model kits and soldiers many decades ago it was Airfix, ROCO, Frog and a few others.  I don't think the Japanese were on the scene then, although I did build a Tamiya Motorised Chieftain at one point, yes it did have rubber tracks.  I seem to recall being very unimpressed with its performance:  it crawled along and kept flaking  out...a bit like the real thing :-).

I haven't made any kits or painted any figures for ages.  When I was a kid my non-warlike  relatives (horrified at my prediliction for the baddies: Tiger Tanks, ME109s, the Scharnhorst) kept buying me sports cars, civilian airliners,  the Queen Elizabeth and the like...I'd open the boxes, have a look, then just stuff them on top of the cupboard with the production line of kits I had bought but not got round to making.
Somewhere around when I turned 16, I got interested in something else 🙂 and forgot about all this.
After Uni I was unemployed for a year (hard times) and  got completely immersed in D & D (which was an escape that helped me survive) and that brought me back to figure painting and wargaming.  Obviously now I rarely am able to meet for F2F gaming, which is a pity.
Funnily enough,  my parents were wanting to move house and asked me what to do with the unmade kits some years ago.  I said "I dunno,  I don't want them any more, probably chuck them out."   My mum, bless her, went on eBay and found out some of them were collectors items - boxed, unmade.  She sold them and gave the money to charity.  Which I was really pleased with.

By the way building textures and details should be modified, because its looks not like modern Ukrainain environment (even if we take Eastern Ukraine with mostly 50-70th years Soviet city architecture style) - buildings in CMBS and flavor objects mostly looks like in WWII of CMRT and CMBN

On the move ambush defense etc. Long range close range all aspects. Countless games as Russians.

JulianJ reacted to Mord in Kieme's modding corner
It would be really great if BFC would include some stuff like Kieme is making in the next module. The games are really getting to the point where everything looks the same, and some more dedicated modern objects, like civilian vehicles would really add to the atmosphere. If they get around to uncons they could maybe make some cars/trucks and such where we could pick them in the editor and have a choice that marks them as parked (removes passengers from game), instead of dismounted/immobilized that way they wouldn't be sitting around idling, would provide cover and concealment (until destroyed) and also still be subject to FOW (though that's not that big a deal to me). Anything would help, because the houses and stuff just don't feel that modern to me at this point.

EDITED: Or maybe the few maps I have seen so far just haven't utilized everything to their potential. I'd still like to see the vehicles irregardless.

    Turn 2 :
Hahahaha, of course it turns out that assumptions made about Bil's options turn out to be wrong. This turn some of my Uncons get spots on units moving up just behind Apprehension Height and Worry Ridge ... because they're amphibious. I definitely did not see that coming, so "Bottleneck Bridge" immediately goes down as the most inappropriately named terrain feature on the map !

What appear to be 2 BMP-2's and one TOW-toting vehicle put in an appearance. At least one of the BMP's disgorges some men and the other probably does so too. So infantry are about to start peering over the crest next turn.

The good news is that none of these vehicles are poking their own noses over the crest, so I should be able to suppress their infantry with MG fire ( if I can spot them ).
Naturally, if they have any kind of AT weaponry with a range greater than 300m, I'm going to be sad panda.

    HUSKER2142,
Alas, for me reading something, especially that long ago in this sea of information on the Forums, lety alone the world at large, is one thing, but retaining it, what with my multiply battered brain and all, is another thing altogether, sadly. I do, though, have some vague recollection of this (horrified it was that long ago) and that I was thrilled to have the info at the time. Now to my response questions to your answers.

Ref the CCTV merits, when you talk about protection of the unit, do you mean against outright terrorist or organized military attack or something else? Am greatly hearted to read the Red Army is all over soldier on soldier violence and that COs are extremely motivated to maintain appropriate discipline, and if the doctors are highly motivated to find and report evidence of assualts, so much the better. Sad, though, such measures are required in the first place. Thanks also for your reply ref AFV crews and their fingerprints. Having officers eat what the troops eat is about as good an incentive to properly feeding them as I can think of myself.

I'm fond of modeling (love it, in fact, just as I do figure painting), but I haven't done serious modeling (was an AFV guy) for decades. My last AFV was an SU-100 diorama using the Tamiya 1:35 scale SU back when Tamiya's tanks came with electric motors  tracks that were rubber! Pretty thrilling switching my SU-100 on, setting it down and watching it trundle across the snow. No RC (certainly in that scale) then. Pro tip. Drying plaster of Paris in the oven to make it set rapidly is the road to disaster. My base cracked so badly and in so many places I had to scrap it and enter just the model--which didn't place in the IPMS South Carolina competition.
After that came a crash move to Calidornia, getting swept up in a huge new school, choir, the school musical, subsequent musicals, an intense immersion into board wargaming and gaming with miniatures. There was also college. I did paint a few figures here and there (a paladin and a hobbit in 25 mm, as well as two retiarii in 54mm to play Gladiator, in which I won the only first place wargame ribbon I ever got), but other than those, my main modeling activity, stretching the term to the elastic limit and then some, was painting GHQ's !:285 MicroArmour and doing some mods to a few items from ROCO's 1:87 scale AFV line. !:72 scale and 1:76 scale kits were dear then, but worse now by far, while ROCO is simply obscene for price vs what's delivered. ROCO--AFV models which are woefully deficient in many areas simultaneously. I had/may have (quantum state as noted before) a 1:16 scale Panther G, but it is static, not RC. Had to go look up the two cars you listed. Thought they were AFV or other miltary vehicles but hadn't heard of them. Please post video of your RC T-72 on the GDF, together with the specific model and such.
I love building models, but four car wrecks and a TBI have greatly exacerbated a congenital nervous tremor I already had. Even with meds it is a major hindrance. and painting figures, let alone paying for and incorporating the enormous amount of fiddly work (etched brass, special castings, etc) on today's models,  is way beyond where I ever was, even before all the traumas. Not only do I have a huge appreciation for models (as seen in the delghts here), but I've got a brother who builds big RC warbirds (current build is 1:16 Me-410 with two Dragon pilot figures) and another who bulds 1:285 scale aircraft masters from scratch and does something similar with sailing warships, ironclads and 1:2400 scale ship minis.  Both of them assemble, tweak, paint and base 15mm and or 28 mm figures, as well as make items such as walls, fortifications, buldings and more. Too twitchy and have problems seeing small details even sans glasses. Frustrating in the extreme! Fortunately, one brother bought me some troops, didhead swapping, pose changes, made weapon substitutions (please ignore thiose Tesla rifles!) and more, painted them up and sent them to me, so I can go play as the WW II German infantry (selected since my local brother has Russians) on such few opportunities I get. Were I somewhat more functional, I'd be hard at in in CMBS and CMBN, but my brain missed the meo and left some key circuits offline! Being able to play CM every now and then is great relative to never being able to play again, but Erwin makes me, in terms of CM play time, look like I've barely played CMBO, never mind anything later. Catch you later (or maybe not since you have an IFV and I have no car).

    John Kettler,

It's video surveillance itself to prevent any attacks from outside. In fact, over the past 10 years, especially the last five years, the RF army has radically changed.
I paint the model roughly, with a brush. Friends say to buy a painting machine, but my hands do not reach it. I know that it will be more beautiful.

Tank from Deagostini, collected 14 months. Housing metal + plastic, metal tracks, inherent sound engine immitations, turret revolutions and shots. The control is available on the radio channel and wifi, the video channel is available via wifi. Turn the tower only 270 °, vertical guidance 5 °. Caterpillars lack grip on the snow, in the summer on the ground the tank behaves better. I'm already thinking how it is possible to modernize caterpillars.

Success - I have modded my CMBS with Kieme's textures and Vein's explosions and fires - respect!
I can see that the Z folder is going to become overstuffed like a christmas goose if I am not careful.
Does the game read subfolders in the Z folder?  Or do all the add-ons have to be in that main folder - I'd like to impose some order on the system in case I need to remove or replace mods.

It is playable as Red or Blue, has multiple AI plans for both, and includes full briefing graphics for both as well.

I have already asked for a demonstration of Olek's tips 'in the wild' as it were and for my trouble have received nought but evasion and, to be frank, barely coherent gibberish that can be summed up as "my tactics are beyond criticism, how dare you ask me to put my money where my mouth is." But very well, I'll bite. I think that the use of 203mm heavy artillery not to suppress, mask or destroy the enemy, the raison d'etre of any artillery piece, but to make foxholes for the purpose of advancing over open terrain in the face of the enemy, is, to put it mildly, a gross misapplication of a rare and expensive asset. Let us consider the picture he presented back there: a mechanised infantry attack is made, but instead of using the cover available, the commander intends to make his attack across open ground. Now, if the artillery had been used to suppress the enemy, as any sane commander would have used it for, this type of attack might not be a bad idea. However, the artillery is instead used to make foxholes in the open ground in front of the enemy. The attack goes in and the battlegroup is flayed alive by the very much alive and unsuppressed enemy. The foxholes so thoughtfully provided by the artillery are a cold comfort surviving infantry, as whatever had the power to wipe out an advance by IFVs or APCs is presumably well able to eviscerate a force of decimated and demoralised dismounts. The infantry is now pinned in the field, unable to either advance or retreat. Now, if the enemy hadn't been present, or if they had been weak enough to be overcome by the mechanised attack alone, then congrats, you've just used a very rare and expensive asset for absolutely no gain whatsoever.
Is that a detailed enough analysis for you?
