  1. Very useful video as it simplifies the concept to give usable info that we all need to know. Question: Does the vehicle with the radio also have to be part of the same formation to be used to contact the mortar team or can it be any vehicle with a radio? Also, it is safer to keep the extra ammo (the bearer and even the vehicle) a little further away out of resupply range in case one forgets to cancel an order - you don't want to fire off too much ammo. Hence the question if any vehicle with a radio will work so one doesn't have to use the vehicle with the spare ammo.
  2. You need to get back to CMA and complete those projects.
  3. I remember playing those Atomic Games published by 360 which released some of the first good computer wargames. But as we know they are all gone and BF is still here.
  4. Speaking of AA missiles. IN the Russian campaign I find that the vehicular missiles were ineffective. Every kill was to Iglas. However, my guys ran out of Iglas quite quickly. Am wondering how do players manage their AA missile supply. It seems to make sense in RL to put every guy with an Igla out there ready to shoot. Or perhaps the mission simply doesn't provide enuff Iglas or missiles? You'd think that Iglas would be plentiful.
  5. This is a conundrum. We are told that we should keep units in C2 with their HQ's. But that is usually impractical when the HQ controls mortars and MG's. Have always wondered how to people handle MG's since they nearly always have to be sent out of C2 of their HQ's. And sometimes there are multiple HQ's for a support formation. Am never sure which HQ's are "safe" to send forward. I always thought that the senior mortar HQ should go forward to stay in touch with the recon elements, but apparently that is a bad thing to do as sometimes the mortars can then not be accessed.
  6. This is your opportunity to pick up CMSF and CMA at bargain prices and play those instead.
  7. I dunno if it's gamey, but one can order indirect fire with a (say 15 min) delay in the set up phase out of any friendly spotter LOS, then over the 15 minutes move a spotter to LOS to the target. If there is no enemy there, you can then adjust the fire which is a lot quicker than starting a new fire call. IIRC, the adjusted fire (ordered during the set up phase only) will continue to fall more accurately - it is as if the prep fire accuracy continues even after adjusted.
  8. You implying there is something wrong with that? And the cat was an accident! Now leave me alone. Have to go back to cataloguing my jars of precious fluids. Speaking of which, what happened to our esteemed colleague John Kettler? Haven't seen him around here for a while... Hope all is ok.
  9. Am thinking about a new high end gaming desktop for CM and flight sims etc. Hate my Win 10 gaming laptop - it keeps telling me to allow cookies, and that I need to sign into my "MS Account" (whatever that is) for reasons I don't understand. (First thing I did was get IT to make the Win 10 interface look like Win 7.) You think it's worth putting Win 7 OS on my new machine? Any downsides other than Win 7 will not have support in a few years? (However, my understanding is that most computer users still use Win 7, so I don't see Win 7 going away in the foreseeable future. And by then we'll have Win 15 and I can talk to the machine.)
  10. PTO... Yes, I do, and that makes perfect sense. I will check it tomorrow. Thanks for the idea. I think you nailed it!
  11. I believe I do have most if not all of Jack Radeys' People's Wargames. All stacked in a bunker in an undisclosed location.
  12. It looks very much like the Priest Kangaroo pic above, but the center armor plate between the circular "pulpit" and the driver's position is missing(!). I think my mystery vehicle is some sort of incompatibility/conflict between two mods. Am sure the mod is "Aris M7 Priest Mod_Heavily Weathered" as it has the number "13" and "S-230576" written on the vehicle. But, I canna figure out why it is interfering with the M5 mod. My problem is that I have SO many mods in my Z that some may not be working correctly in the latest CM2 version. It's no biggy and I can't see why it would spoil the scenario. I wonder if it will function in the game as an M5 or as a Priest Kangaroo. **** Ok, So I removed the 2 Priest mods (the 2nd was "Aris M7B1 Priest CMBN v2") exited CMBN to desktop and restarted CMBN and then loaded the game. The vehicle is STILL the messed up Priest Kangaroo! For some reason the game is not picking up the "Aris_M5 Lendlease HTs Mod". But, surely I should at least be seeing the default BF M5. Is there any way the game could be finding some other mod(s) not in the Z folder and conflicting?
  13. Exactly... And I even think I still own a copy - stored deep in a garage with over a thousand others. And don't forget the nuclear option - cats...
  14. Loving your AAR HerrTom. But, this is the reason I don't play H2H. If you were playing vs AI, you'd be finished with this scenario by now.
  15. Am with Combatintman here. There is a tendency for good folks to want increasing difficulty, but only in areas that they have a fancy for. What about messages getting lost? Whole units getting lost? Units not responding to orders? That was very common in WW2 eras at least. The game can be made as complex as desired until very few, if any, want (or are able) to play it any more. This same tendency almost destroyed the cardboard wargame industry in the 80's with a few vocal folks demanding larger and more complex wargames - until monsters were produced that needed an entire large room to lay out the maps, had rulebooks the size of a Bible, and were unplayable. The C2 stuff built into CM2 is absolutely fascinating. But, for the average gamer who isn't playing on "Extreme" Iron (ie with the discipline to never see the whole map with all units shown), it doesn't matter at all. The only issue that does matter arises when one cannot bring down indirect HE when it seems that one should be able to with the HQ's and radios that the units do possess.
  16. "To Verdenne & Victory" then. (I have no "Victory at Verdenne".)
  17. IIRC the naming format for sounds is different to the graphics format outlined by Mord. Is that correct?? So, to have a variety of (say) MG sounds, one names the first <Sound>, then <Sound 0>, then <Sound 1>. Or, is it another way? Some sound mods I have seem to name things in different ways and it is confusing.
  18. Another good thing with CMSF2 brought up to CM2 status is that we'll be able to have more than 2 copies (if you have more than 2 computers.) PS: I know you guys are not keen on CM3 getting priority over CM2 modules. But am genuinely concerned about current rate of development getting the game to 1939 era in minimum 5-10 years. How many of us will still be so keen on a 15-25 year old game system? Assuming CM3 can utilize much of what has been created for CM2, am hoping that a kickass CM3 would revitalize the game and bring in new gamers, as well as duplicate all current game topics quickly (within 2 years) and then we can get a much better game system for the remaining early eras.
  19. Am also thinking about the idea voiced above of putting all games on an external SSD so one can carry it around and not have to reload all games on every new computer.
  20. That looks similar to that one. Altho IIRC the pulpit looks separate - there doesn't appear to be as much frontal armor. The only Priest mods I can find in my Z is Aris M7 and Aris M7B1. But presumably that has the 105mm. Unfortunately so many of his mods do not come with a pic, so looking at the bmp files doesn't tell one much. My puzzle is why is this mystery vehicle replacing the Aris M5 mod. It could be that the latest version of CM2 is making an older mod obsolete.
  21. "...objectives may simply be to spot enemy units. That is an assignable option in scenario creation." Have played a couple like that but did not realize that that sort of recon/spotting objective was actually a genuine victory objective in CM2. So as a result assumed that it was just a way to get one to kill something. duh!
  22. "the map is gonna be 100KmX100Km" Making me sooo wet...
  23. Is this a mission in a campaign or the standalone "To Verdenne & Victory"?
