Overlay function in map editor
Pete Wenman replied to De Savage's topic in CM Fortress Italy Maps and Mods
1. Make a screenshot of the area you want to map. 2. Save it as "special editor overlay".bmp (without the quote marks) and place this file into your Z folder. (note it must be a .bmp) When you open up the editor and go to Map, you will see it laid over the map. Pressing the "o" key will toggle between 33% opaque, 66% opaque, 100% opaque, and invisible. Help Setting up Tests / Practise Runs
Pete Wenman replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
I'd use the editor for this. 1. Choose whatever map it is you want to use. As Jon says if it's from a campaign then you will need to unpack it first. 2. Delete all units and AI orders 3. Save with your chosen name 4. For each side pick the forces you wish to play with. Either by selecting the required formation and deleting unwanted units. If easier you can select a FOO as you main formation and then just add individual vehicles to it. 5. Deploy the forces on map in the editor. 6. Save map with test name. 7. Exit editor and play as Battle. I would suggest playing as 2 player hotseat as the AI side has no plans and so otherwise will not move. 8. Test the tactics you are interested in. HTH Pete -

A 2 metre difference between water and land height, either of the pavement types and a wall or fence at the edge will get you a near vertical edge. P -

Help on Scottish Corridor (Spoiler alert)
Pete Wenman replied to SpitfireXI's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Use a map and it will. The tricky is to create a high enough resolution copy that can stand being stretched to the required map size. I've created a composite map in photoshop on which I have contours, roads, rivers, forest and park areas, houses, etc all marked out. Roughing out the map in the editor is now a doodle. P -

Pete Wenman replied to noob's topic in CM Normandy Maps and Mods
Go for it, that's why I make maps so they can be used. The full size Shadow of the Hill map is on the repository (4k x 1.6k) plus a 2k x 2k non specific Normandy map. You might also be able to use the map from Crossroads at Monthardrou which came with CMBN. Hope it helps P -

I'm probably breaking NDA here, but what the hell. We all gather for a team meeting 9.30 every Friday morning. Steve pretty much takes charge, makes sure we all have a coffee or Dr Peppers and off we go. Item 1 is always to discuss the current "rant" thread on the forum, and whether staying silent or dropping a bone is the best way to stir it up further. Item 2 is a vote on whether to release East Front modules 1 to 4 tomorrow or not. (Steve has the casting vote, and laughs himself silly every time he say, " no lets wait another week") Item 3 is a review of Beta tester pay scales and working conditions Break for doughnuts Item 4 is normally when all press releases and announcements are drafted and agreed, but Steve is playing Farmville by this stage and so it takes awhile . The draft press release then goes to the typing pool before getting binned. At this stage everyone relocates to the production facility and takes it in turns to shake Charles's jar and remind Phil that he is only "First Second Programmer" We then all agree to work harder, and then pack up for the rest of the day. So as you can see it's a pretty slick operation and it will be ready when its done P

tactics and learning curve
Pete Wenman replied to bowlie's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I had to check again but the ATG is in a "set up zone" so you have some degree of flexibility. Having said that its default position was one I selected with care. As I mentioned above ATGs especially, but also heavy tanks come into their own on large maps with areas of long LOS. They also mean that it's much harder to rely on the map edge as a secure flank, as in some cases it's a long way away ! -

Ray - the four "In the Shadow of the Hill" missions are all mine, plus "Breaking the Panzers", but the others guys did some great stuff as well. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with CW P -

@ SBurke Glad you are enjoying it. I made big maps to ensure standoff weapons like ATG's could be used as they should. Yep this is how it is supposed to be, and it sounds like you are reaping the benefits P -
Editor: Tips about Battles & Campaigns needed
Pete Wenman replied to Gen Von Television's topic in CM Normandy Maps and Mods
GVT Sorry but as far as I'm aware there is no way to stop the halftracks following the AI plan once their passengers have dismounted. (They follow the plan, what else can they do) It's either that or an additional AI group, which as you say you don't have spare. Welcome to the world of scenario design P -
I would assume SS on the vehicle plates is a no go from Battlefronts perspective due to the issue of the law in some countries, certainly Germany. P
