  1. Just reading the full transcript and its interesting reading. Don't want to get political here but USAF has a track record with this sort of thing. My point though is how difficult is it to recognise ground targets from the air? The AAV is a fairly distinctive vehicle, and I can't think of much the Iraqi army would have of similar shape or size. If it's that difficult then it needs to be modeled, and again perhaps suggests that the US Forces may have overwhelming firepower, but using it effectivly is not an automatic consequence. Interesting also that the FAC and Coy Cmdr stated there were no friendly forces ahead of them despite not knowing this was the case. A case of "because I don't know, it must be so". Not getting at the guys on the ground here, rather that this illustrates FOW at its most extreme. Pete
  2. Just flagging this one, as I can't imagine modern warfare without loads of parked/abandoned cars/trucks etc. No need for them to move so no civies required, but streets choked with cars, potential VBIED, cover for either side, smoking and or on fire, burnt out, or possible wrongly identified targets. [ Imagine putting down area fire on a suspected APC/Humvee to discover its a beat up Lada] Loads of uses so please make them an option in the editor.
  3. Guys hi Don't post too often, but do lurk. Cards on table; after thinking this over overnight I like whats being offered. Why - because it offers what I like CMBO/CMBB for, or have wanted them to do. 1.Traditional turn based wargame (not FPS or RTS)but with good graphical representation of the action. 2. The need to plan and organise available forces to achieve a mission with limited knowledge. 3. Missions where ones sides forces are not the perfect counter for the other sides forces, or the mission required of them. 4. The need to use good tactics Still with me ? Well my point is, I see a Syrian setting providing this as much as anywhere else. If you don't like the fact it is Syria - just call it somewhere in the Middle East. Think the mighty USofA is just going to flatten everything, and no enemy is worthy of th effort? Think again. At Company level in close terrain you are starting to see the defender having the edge over the attacker. You'll have to play a very different game to achieve objectives while keeping your force relativly intact. Fire and manoeuvre, appreciation of key terrain, resupply, command delays, intense firefights with no appreciable result, difficult decisions, and the inability to treat your force as cannon fodder. Thats what I want from the game, and I think I'm going to get more of it from CM-SF than any game thats gone before. Do I want to see WWII? you bet, but this looks to be cool, and I want it, not for the setting rather for the game experiance. Looking at the length of this you can see why I don't post too often Pete
  4. Brent hi Don't visit here to often at present - real life gets in the way. Glad you are enjoying that map. One of my better ones. Tell Charles his ASL boxart isn't bad either Pete

  6. Guys hi Apache has got close to an idea I have been toying with. That of running an armoured Pz Gr Coy (Bttn ? ) through the campaign. Hence my large maps ( any feedback re State Farm 131 ? ). Anyway my point Apache said I also wonder a little about the scrounged units now. Would the permanent or semi-permanent attachment of a reasonably ' relaistic ' support unit or two, up to a certain point value, perhaps related to favour AND depending on the type of actions you faced not be a better way to handle core supplements? E.g. few extra HMGs on defence, platoon of A/Cs (reccce platoon) on a probe/assault. Also, can't recall from the rules but, do we need to look at any guidance re TRPs, minefields, bunkers etc on defence?[/QB]
  7. Guys hi Some great photos here, I particularly like the dug in Panther in the Berlin street. photos here Pete
  8. Guys hi A heads up to CDV users. In order to install CMMOS I (as has been pointed out on list) had to rename my exc. file from CM2 to BtB. No problem, and CMMOS works ok. However after downloaded the patch and installing, the next game I played still showed as ver 1 on the splash screen. Looking around in the CM2 folder on hard drive showed that I now had two exc. files (one in each name). In order to get ver 1.01 to show on the splash screen I had to delete my existing short cut, and create a new one from the CM2 exc. file. CMMOS appears to run ok despite this. So all UK (and other CDV users) might want to check this. Pete
  9. Biltong hi Please send me a copy of these rules. I'll swap you a map or two in return. Pete
  10. Franko hi yeah, I'd love a look at this one. 12thSS is a unit that fascinates me. It will be interesting to see how the scenario plays vs history. Currently working on a huge 14000pts plus scenario with 12thSS on defence in Normandy. ------------------ Pete "When Rumania declared war in August 1916, it is said that one of the first army orders, after mobilization, was that only officers above the rank of major were allowed to use make up" The Oxford Book of Military Anecdotes.
  11. Hi Your talking about the SdKfz 2 - Kettenkrad. Not as far as I am aware used for recce, but liason and towing of light guns, especially in Fallschirmjager units. I have plenty of photos of them in various books I have so it was fairly common. Over 8000 were built, but mainly used on the East Front, but several well known photos of Villers Bocage after Wittmans rampage show one. ------------------ Pete "When Rumania declared war in August 1916, it is said that one of the first army orders, after mobilization, was that only officers above the rank of major were allowed to use make up" The Oxford Book of Military Anecdotes.
  12. Hi I use brush, but have modified the BMPs, so that it looks more like crops/vines I'm not clever enough to post a screenshot here, so if you are interested I can let you have either a screen shot or the mod files ------------------ Pete "When Rumania declared war in August 1916, it is said that one of the first army orders, after mobilization, was that only officers above the rank of major were allowed to use make up" The Oxford Book of Military Anecdotes.
