  1. Good thread. I've come into this quite late. I've seen and read all the stuff you are referring to John about US vets , and how they are dying off, being treated poorly. Read it for years. Quite saddening. An old colleague , A Dr I used to work with here in NZ. He used to work for a defense contractor in Saudi. At the end of the Gulf War, him and his team of Drs had some high level US brass come in. They asked about reported symptoms there - gulf war syndrome. Any one have reported symptoms?. They said no none that they were aware of, and they asked was there any medical evidence they could have to look at and see what was going on to help them better understand this. The US Lady looked to another military colleague and said all destroyed? And the guy nodded yes. They were told the 000s of files on this were all lost and unavailable and sorry couldn't help them then they left. The Dr concerned said it sounded dodgey as hell. They were of the opinion they were trying to cover up loose ends and get rid of evidence. Dr Craig Paul Roberts pretty much summed up this war with Russia and Ukraine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoAH0VXbwfU&feature=youtu.be I respect his comments regarding US foreign policy and current economic issues In his comments he also noted how it started - with western meddling. He noted how the Russians keep casualties down with troop rotations etc and that is of relevance to this thread. he talked about all that and the ghosting of units. Quite interesting. Its worth listening to. We all know Russia is involved. They had to be. They were simply protecting there country and economy. I would be if I was Russia. The Russian military have made physical plaques / commemorations to battles in the Ukraine but have not listed where the battles where etc - its like a place holder. When this is all over they will honor the dead. Also I wonder your thoughts John as you may have been around the scene at the time Roberts was assistant treasurer to Reagan. I found his comments enlightening as to the nuclear issues and modified treaties today the US has allegedly cancelled in an aggressive fashion. I respect his economic views. They are quite realistic. What did you think on his comments from a military perspective? etc He talks about the dealings with Israel and drones and the Georgia Crisis in exchange for Irans missiles systems codes? legit? I see Israel PM is in Russia or just was over Syria. I suspect there is some link. Obviously regional defense concerns. As to loss of life - a comment on the shot down air liner MH-17. http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/which-airlines-fly-over-ukraine-how-can-you-find-out-your-flight-route/story-fnizu68q-1226996428536 The Ukraine is responsible for there airspace. They should share blame irrespective. It was absolutely irresponsible to allow any international flights thru a war zone with flying aircraft etc shooting at one another. But its common place generally as height is the safety margin for the aircraft concerned as per the link i noted. I think its kinds nuts but how the air flight business works. Ukraine should have perhaps said to the UN its too dangerous and banned flights Few air liners are flying over Iraqi warzones. The British have decided to stay in there. British Air ways. A few have pulled out. They have shorter range air to air missile launchers so less risk i guess and no air to air attacks in general.
  2. http://www.ecfr.eu/article/commentary_russias_military_options_in_ukraine3010 Interesting summary of the Ukraine War and Russia options. Thought I'd share.
  3. On topic of the depository id like a system like green as jades where a user can easily add content like his site and download easily and fast. No disclaimers every time we download Put content warnings on the main page or in small print - we want mods not warnings coming up every download that something might not work properly every time we download rah rah Please fix or somefink! Thanks for the update
  4. I agree with Antaress73 post I've played against lots of M1s and taken them out with many AT14s - 13s , T90s and mixed firepower. Not that hard. It was before the patch but things work better now. It all comes down to terrain and positioning. M1s are to be respected that's for sure but like the Tiger / Panther they are not invulnerable.
  5. Hey Scipio Haven't seen you around for a while since we played a PBM 10 years ago lol. yeah graphics are a bit behind but the game play is pretty good. That's what its all about to me generally. CMBS is pretty good and I recommend playing it and modding it. There are too many fancy pants games for me that have rubbish game play and look pretty. But there is a place for decent graphics - I appreciate what you are saying. I think the BF guys if they used there game play development with a group who are masters of animations and graphics it would be awesome. I still think they should get the licence for Warhammer 40k and such and develop that lol Animations will need improving in the future. If they don't they will likely lose there market. As much as I love playing these it is an older engine. Game play can only get so far with the graphics engine they are using now. That's something they probably realize and will look at in the future. It is better than CMBO and CMBB lol
  6. Seeing them on there technical s - with lots of them with big calibre machine guns they remind me of a rapid moving SAS WW2 patrol / strike force I think there mobility helps in the desert areas
  7. Also it was initially expected the iraq war was going to be a stalingrad like fight. Powell amd others had argued yhis and it was what one would have expected. Saddam however deployed significant forces out of the city which was easily picked off by US air assets. North and South. There was to be no last stand. Rumsfeld was surprised by this but it vindicated his position on the war setup with less US forces not using Saudi Ports. Was interesting reading this in Americas Secret wars. Also as discussed there is the India Parkistain option US/Nato vs Parkistain or Iran Russia vs US/Nato In Afgan Iran invade Afgan Iran attack Saudis Iran attack US/Nato Iraqi Isis are in that mix Syria / Turkey / Egypt Plenty of scope for hypothectical scenarios
  8. I played a CMBB map as a KG member with 3 of us in the group playing a big game vs 3 others - humans lol Took around week for 1-3 turns but was fun. We each had command of A large number of german forces attacking russian positions.
  9. Could just be a one off with the guy getting trigger happy?
  10. Good question. Depending on comms , they made no know regardless. So they wouldnt know to consider aborting. They dont know about enemy fire coming in so its a risk they take. There strafe attack alttitude may be high enough to not consider it a risk.
  11. Military Net Pics website an absolute wealth of military photos/videos and information shut down from 1 May this year. Was closed due to ongoing copyright infringes etc and the owners - a couple decided to shut it down with all the hassles they had. Im unsure how many here went on it. But was advising of its demise incase you are trying to get on it like i was today. If any recommend any other sites for military info / conflict info or pics/video please post your links below. Cheers
  12. What a freak accident hope you are recoverying well take it easy
  13. I totally agree about the suppressed weapon comments Try targeting and then letting the unit chose its own target and see results if enemy too close perhaps only suppressed fires how close was the enemy? Im wondering if its a close deployment option to snipe? ive never really thought of this issue so its a good observation / question. Shows how suppressed weapons teams could be useful and hard to spot.
  14. I use snipers exclusively Ive had good successful hits from my guys at short ranges of 200-400 yards. On moving and stationary targets. Going out with all long range domination expectation is not realistic. Ive found long range sniping harder to achive kills. Also if You shoot for two long your unit will get mortar fire or direct HE on them. suppressed good for soft targets 100-400 yards .338 is good for soft targets .50 cal often hits also at short range more so I cannot ascertain if .50 gives you advantage on targets in buildings. Ive never seen it shoot thru an object into a target. Ive taken out a BMP at 20 yards rapid fire of a .50 sniper rifle into it Long range ive taken one BMP out. Rest either partial pen or glance. At purchase cost its not viable for a main anti armour unit. Buy AT. With nade launcher in squad they are useful at taking on trucks, infantry, tunguskas with .50 cal (risky ) and other light armour. Good suppression unit. M4 doesnt always fire, if you specifically target i think it will then. Ive tested in around 14 pbm games. I only test in battlefield conditions So Russian snipers become i find a good rival in these active distances of 100-400 yards. But there lack of a nade launcher means they can be suppressed quicker.
  15. Thanks for the info Sounded like a pretty nasty way to go for those guys inside demo charged out Why are they called "Cyborgs exactly"? The sniper rifles - was it the Ukraine who were given these upgrades? to .308? Was that standard issue for them ?
  16. leave the time as is - 60 seconds no shorter cheers
  17. Hacketts book was very good. Kind of showed how a war would play out. The supply bit i found interesting with both sides depleting ammo very quickly. Logistics was critical. As was ability of Bmps etc to cross water ways. Given info that was discussed prior about soviet tank design at the time being better than thought i think the Nato forces would have been very hard pressed indeed. I a numbers game with limited tactical nukes i think the russians would win in Europe back in 84. But in the end no one wins with radioactive sites all over.
  18. Great post. Thanks for sharing your info and experiences on this subject.
  19. $200 million to ukraine approved by US house committee its on news sites now so can ukraine forces get upgraded with javs or do you need a list of what they get before you update interesting to see what they actually get cheers
  20. Do troops get there AT weapons on them ready to fire if you put an armour arc on? If they are near an area where a Tank was seen and a ? is in the area with armour marker? If they know a tank is there confirmed? How many will use AT4s the AT guy or others if there are lots of AT4s to go around? As i had a game where in one part the AT guy in my half squad of US troops pulled out his AT4 when a last seen armour marker was nearby there position. I was wondering why he had it out. I had another US squad who knew a tank was behind a house but didnt arm there AT4s. They also didnt run through side of house blown up and open but ran around to door on other side in front of tank where they died. I had other squads with multiple AT4s just shoot one instead of more when they had 4-6. If theres a main Battle tank would they not shoot a few off. I was curious as to when they actually use these and how we can make them use or prep to use or fire them all off. Cheers
  21. One of the patch changes was in relation to this i think. So they use gun/missles in the correct situation. Firing the gun would be expected as a distraction and to damage optics. Ive had them shooting and damaging my main tanks gun barrel on 5 seperate engagements. So they can effectively can take out a tank in that sense but the missle should follow asap
