  1. Hi all, This may apply to all 4.0 games but I've noticed it today with Cold War - playing in 'Iron' mode, some of the contact report icons are flashing and some are not. I think this may be something to do with the reports being old/inaccurate but I can't find any info to confirm that. Any one have any ideas? The manual doesn't mention flashing. I've been playing the CM series for many years and have almost all the titles, it would be embarrassing if this was always a feature and I only just noticed it Thanks in advance.
  2. Vin's Geometric Icons CMFI This an updated polished set from the original set I made years ago, and expands to include all the modules. Improvements include diamond shape now for armor, and available nation HQ icons. If you are familiar with my other sets it uses distinctive geometric shapes for different units same as the others. Allies are blue Axis is red spotted icons The FOW icons are grey(axis), and olive(allied) The HQ Icons default are a white star on blue(allies), and German cross on red (axis). There are other HQ variants for allies and axis to choose from if you look at pic. To change HQ icons for different nations you may be playing you have to do it manually. Go into the HQ's folders and cut the "z" at the front of one folders name and paste in front of the name of the one you want to use. Adding a "z" to beginning of a folder name tells the game which folder to use. You can also use the vanilla black HQ flag too. BONUS! Comes with my arrow base mod, and easy vis command buttons that highlight the order color when hovered over. Two choices full color or just color outline. Again take the "z" in name from one and paste into name of folder you want to use to change. You can use what you want. All set up to cherry pick, but think you will like defaults I have set. Enjoy, Vin Vin Geometric icons CMFI v.3.rar
  3. Vin's Geometric Icons CMRT This an updated polished set from the original set I made years ago. Improvements include diamond shape now for armor, and available nation HQ icons. If you are familiar with my other sets it uses distinctive geometric shapes for different units same as the others. The set includes choice for spotted icons for Soviet; blue or green(default). Germany is red spotted icons The FOW icons are grey(German), and olive(Soviet) The HQ Icons default are a red star on green(soviet), and German cross on red (Germany). There is other HQ variants for Soviet to choose from like red star on blue for the blue set. To change to the blue set go into the HQ, and spotted folders and cut the "z" at the front of one folders name and paste in front of the name of the one you want to use. See how I have green selected soviet and the German HQ in the pic. Enjoy, Vin (Sorry, just noticed I posted this in the general CMRT forum instead of mods where this should have been. If BF can move this to the mod sub forum I'd appreciate. Thanks) Vin CMRT geometric icons.rar
  4. Vin's Animated Text- CMBS v1 First, special thanks to Marco for updating the mod concept's graphics to better reflect modern warfare. The preview pic shows the light version which keeps the word "spotting" as a filter that can be ignored allowing the more important icons to stand out. The heavy version replaces the word "spotting" with the symbol of an eye. Both versions replace the word "casualty" with a "red cross" in the weapons panel. Enjoy! *BONUS* Right Facing Weapons Silhouettes like in preview pic. Flips the weapons as shown in the pic to better accommodate the text so it does not cover the weapon graphic. Now included in "Easy Vis UI" mod on next page. EDIT: I deleted the files in this post as they are now outdated. Look further in the thread to find version 1.03 compatible download
  5. Contains invisible floating unit icons for standard CMBN + CW forces. Unpack into data/z folder. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bqq3xoi2p8rr6hs/Z_CMBN No Icons.rar?dl=0 This is not really a full mod. I consider this as experimental toolset for selectively replacing any existing FLOATING UNIT ICONS with invisible ones in CMBN (incl. CW forces). The main idea was to make enemy floating unit icons invisible, while the same time preserving the friendly ones (for quick access and overview), but also to add additional FOW while removing the possible distraction from enemy floating unit icons possibly covering larger parts of the game map. ALT+I does the same, but it´s all or nothing. ALL floating unit icons for german, US and CW can be replaced with invisible substitute icons. To achieve invisibility, alpha layers were made opaque by filling in all black with Photoshop and saved in 32Bit BMP alpha layer format (the standard). The folders contain all the invisible floating unit icons unpacked by default and a RAR packed file contains these as backup additionally. So if the mod rar file (Z_CMBN No Icons.rar) is unpacked straight into your data/z folder, EVERY floating unit icon in the game is replaced by invisible ones. Now the purpose is to selectively remove those icons you don´t want to be seen in the game from the sub folders. In example if you play as the US player vs. a german opponent, just delete those files from the friendly "USA" folder and leave the (invisible) "german" opponent ones in, if you don´t want to see german floating unit icons. This leaves any original or modded USA unit icons visible, while making german ones invisible. Also delete the files labeled "icon blue..." (used for US and CW) from the "shared" folder and leave the german ones (icon red...) as is. The two files from the "contacts" folder should be deleted, as these are needed for friendly FOW purposes. A packed backup file is always present in every sub folder. The backups contain the invisible floating unit icons. Original floating unit icons, as well as modded ones remain untouched off course. Note: Off course you need to switch floating unit icons ingame to ON (ALT+I). While the floating unit icon graphics are invisible, the actual icon objects are still physically present and if needed you can click/activate them as usual if clicking slightly above a unit in 3D space. Game manual: "Over the center mass of the units they represent" Another interesting use would be to just delete the files containing "fow" (fog of war) in filename, while preserving every other file in a subfolder. The "fow" files are contained in "british", "german" and "usa" folders. What happens in game is that just the "generic silhouette + question mark" icons pop up occasionally, indicating something has changed among the enemy force. Game manual: "Unknown or previously spotted but now out of sight units, as well as pure sound contacts, are shown with a generic silhouette and a question mark." I haven´t tested all SKILL LEVEL modes, so it might be possible that some of the above mentioned procedures need to be adapted or changed in order for the particular SKILL MODES handling of floating unit icons works the way you want. I usually play in IRON. RockinHarry Edit: Also works fine with CMFB. Ignore British folder or delete it.
  6. Vin Geometric Icons CMSF2.zipVin Geometric Icons CMSF2 I have been picking at making this for myself as I am going through the demo, and it should be complete enough to share now. First, special thanks to Juju, Wolf, and Bil for all their original contributions from which I have drawn from to create this mod, and it’s concepts. If you are familiar with my other Icon mods this one works the same in using different colors for spotted and FOW icons, along with different colors for fortifications icons making set up much more visually organized. Each unit class has a unique geometric shape making it easier to differentiate unit types while making icons smaller. Newest Feature: New HQ icons. HQ units stand out much better now using contrast for visual emphasis while having a more interesting distinctive look. Each force has it's own unique HQ floating icon available. Some have variation you can choose from as well. To change to a desired HQ go into the HQ folder where the icons are and cut and paste the "z" and add it to the beginning of the title of the folder you want to use. The default setting is USA white star, and Syria green star. I liked the green star as it felt more Syrian to me, but to use the Syria white star icon instead you would cut the "z" from the folder name and add it to the beginning of the folder name of the icon with the white star. Putting a "z" in front of any file folder name makes the game override to that. You can only use one Bluefor and one Redfor icon at a time. Switching HQ icons must be done manually. Also, The mod is set up so you can use all or piecemeal. If you do not want to use the special HQ icons , but the rest then take the HQ icon folder out and it will use the vanilla flag. Just want to use the FOW icons with another mod, or base game then just put that folder in and add a "z" to folder name. Enjoy! Vin BEFORE: AFTER: HQ's: Note the "z" at beggining of title. Cut and paste to different folder to change. DOWNLOAD: Vin Geometric Icons CMSF2.zip

  8. I've seen this in a number of titles, but most recently in RT, so I thought I'd post the topic here. I occasionally encounter a situation where one of my units gets a "full" spot (with a complete ID and icon) on an enemy unit, usually an AT gun, but then that information doesn't disseminate outward. In other words, other units of mine don't get a "possible" icon for that unit, no matter how close or how well in C2 with the spotter, and no matter how long I wait. Sometimes the original spotting unit itself doesn't even keep the "suspected" icon after it moves out of line-of-sight. It just completely forgets that the enemy unit exists. Has anyone else seen a situation like this? Is it a bug, or meant to represent something in real life? (This matters to me because when I play against the AI, I try to keep my units from area firing or reacting to units they're not aware of, which means I pay a lot of attention to C2 and information sharing, based on @MOS:96B2P's very useful findings.)
  9. Been able to get back to playing a bit after a long lay off, and got the urge to do some modding to improve on my icons mod. I think you guys will like how this latest version improves visuals in look and function. Vin Geometric Icons CMFB v.1 + bonus Arrow Bases First, special thanks to Juju, Wolf, and Bil for all their original contributions from which I have drawn from to create this mod, and it's concepts. This mod will work in ANY Cmx2 game with USA and Germany. HQ units stand out much better now using contrast for visual emphasis while having a more interesting look with a white star icon for USA, and the Balkenkreuz for Germany. 10. I was experimenting around with the tentative contact icons often referred to as sound contacts. The four types of tentative contacts as I understand it are: Infantry, Transport, Light Armor and Armor. Took some screenshots and thought I would share. The cool icon mods were done by @IanL
