Invasion of Schleswig-Holstein and Denmark. Germans and Danes vs Poles. A lot of Leopards 1 vs T-55's and Polish airborne units.

Well, I bought it.  I have an ongoing CW scenario I need to finish and then I will try out my first Shock Force game.  I have been rotating between BS and CW scenarios and now I need to insert SF into the rotation.

You're only going to get one first time through, so I would highly advise playing 79.
    M48's are so much fun.

All fine and dandy to spread horizons but realistically any first module, if it appears, will be somewhere else on the Central Front or feature new nations that would have fought there.  In terms of likelihood and potential sales that means the Brits, West and East Germany, Canadians, French, Belgians and Cloggies.

Corrections and adjustments are monitored by tracking current missile position using an IR emitter or beacon on the back of the flying missile, then corrections are transmitted through the site, as I understand it.
So, the emitter has to be seen, which doesn't happen through smoke.

No. But it would be odd if you thought every wargame on the planet should look like that. Or it would be odd if they made that look a hundred times better than it does and you complained about it. It would be odd if you thought that was the height of what a computer should offer the genre.  But you are here, playing CM, so you obviously aren't the target of the rant.

On a positive note though, a lot of the other people in this thread have been very positive and had some good discussion.

I personally like the narrative style for briefings.  The more proper one's often read and sound like a real order being delivered, but I like a story.   FWIW of course, I am just a silly C-DAT.

YES!!! For Combat Mission Fulda Gap.  Anytime in the 1980s would be cool.

This is my dream CM game, but it is unfortunately unlikely to be made in the next 5 years or so.
BFCs current model is to release one major game per year and two modules for already released games per year. There are at least two games covering the Eastern Front that are expected, which means that the earliest possible window for a CM: Fulda Gap isn't until 2019. Its very likely that other games covering WWII or possibly Korea 1950 come about first, not to mention another modern game such as Black Sea in a different environment.
So while CM: Fulda Gap may eventually happen (and I sincerely hope it does) I've accepted the fact that it is a long time coming.
Now if someone had a boatload of money to throw at BFC to develop a cold war game, that could change the equation some. But that is exceedingly unlikely, so we'll have to wait it out.
P.S. Airburst ammunition for artillery and thermals for tanks and IFVs would be in a cold war game, unless that game takes place in the 50's or 60's.

Feel free to make a detailed list of them and post. Really. I'm not being sarcastic. There are quite a few people on the beta team, however the deadline was short, not everyone tested or even opened every scenario (I haven't even opened the NTC campaign, for example because I was busy on other things). As was said, not everyone is a native English speaker or even if they are not a US English speaker so some military terms and organizations names were constantly being corrected. Most of us were on the beta team for a short time, compared to  "normal" (like FR for instance). So sure, typos are there.
And while everything IS read over, and corrections made, sometimes new errors can creep in when a correction is made and it doesn't get caught. BF always looks for quality, so if you posted a list of errata rather than insulting everyone involved in the entire process, it will definitely go into a list of things to be fixed.
My constructive criticism of your criticism. Take it or leave it 🙂

I admit, I'm only really familiar with Soviet FAC procedures, but the pilots would be given anchor points and directed to enter combat through specific azimuths ("251, expect to work from control point 14, combat 270-280, offset 2.5-3" - meaning aircraft 251 is being directed to head to a predetermined point 14, typically coordinated through the ATO, then is expected to enter into the battlespace from a bearing between 270 to 280 and expect the target between 2.5 and 3 km from the point).
I'm only particularly familiar with the cockpits of the F-14A/B, Mirage 2000C and AJS-37, but they all have dials (or buttons) to adjust the spacing and quantity of bombs to drop (except the Viggen which I don't think can drop in singles or pairs). This would be the purpose of a linear fire mission: the FAC directing the aircraft to drop bombs along a treeline, down a street, etc.
Honestly, the way I would rework CAS would be the following:
Linear missions: Pickles all ordnance along the length of the mission, or fires a burst from beginning to end with guns or rockets (which might not be able to get fully expended, for example). With guided weapons, it gives the aircraft a bearing to fly along and the option to engage enemies spotted nearby the target area. Point missions: Blow up that building, would drop two bombs instead of all of them. Vehicle missions: This would be the bigger change, targeting a vehicle would be the equivalent of "Your target: motorised infantry company, 10-12 targets, in battle formation, moving with a course of 80-90, speed 5-10 km/h." Gameplay wise, a vehicle target would give the aircraft the ability to search for similar vehicles in the vicinity of the callout like an area strike does now. This would be exceptionally dangerous to use directly on the frontline since it gives the pilot latitude to engage similar targets nearby. Bonus points would be the ability to tell the aircraft what ordnance to use! I know we kind of have that ability, but if it was a lot more explicit (guns/rockets/bombs/missiles, etc) rather than light/medium/heavy I think usability would be much improved!

    For all you forumites!
Maybe you can make the grade? Maybe you are your own worst critic?
Writing a tiny scenario with a small map and a small set of forces on a short time scale is such a blast! By fighting the natural urge to pump it up to be grander and ever larger, like a wedding or a party, you can keep the finish line always in sight.
Such an undertaking is within the grasp of most every CM player and is something that everyone should give a go at, even if NEVER "released to the public"...
There are many guides and tutorials out there in written and video format.
Starting with an existing map cuts the workload down tremendously!
I am here for anybody that wants to try. If you need it and want it, if it encourages your first ever scenario attempt, I am happy to make you some custom roadsigns or a building "Hotel de Yada-yada", vehicle markings...absolutely free <<except for shipping and handling!>>
Especially if you do a scenario in one of these minor axis nation mods...!
CMRT Finnish Mod was done back in 2016 and will have more content after F&R
CMRT Hungarian Mod was done back in 2016 but needs an overhaul and formal scenarios...
CMRT Romanian Mod is now out as a beta with more content coming, new scenario due out this week...
CMRT Italy Mod is in the planning phases, due sometime this year...
CMRT Spanish Blue Division, I am looking for voice actors, in the planning phases
My old gripe: For all the you forum folks who want "eggs benedict" at the breakfast bar, how about you come over a bit early and help make the damn eggs!
Translation: These mods could use folks that are interested in the "east front minor axis nations" to volunteer by sending me a PM, look at what we have created, understand our limitations in what we can present in the mod and then hopefully accept that and decide to "help pull the wagon" and make a small scenario to help the whole community.
...end of the sermon, please pass the offering plate down the pew...
