The video itself is pretty funny at first glance (if you aren't German) by its objective similarity to past events to any outsider. Not wanting to suggest that is a positive thing, or something that should be strengthened (perhaps stoking German reticence toward any actions that might look parallel though having a different objective) is a reasonable point of view, and does not depend on whether the opposition is comminting war crimes. They were granted access to one of the prisons that holds those captured from Kursk. The head of the prison said they received 320 prisoners in the first 10 days of the offensive and only 20% of those were contract/professionals, the rest conscripts. This is the kind of thing that can get a dictator killed sometimes. Make the millitary think there's no way out. Putin's done a good job so far of purging any general who was getting popular. But what if one of the generals decides to turn his regiment or brigade onto the road to moscow? The RU military didn't stop the hated Prig-Wagnerites, would they stop their own? I suspect that if someone could just get the fire started, there'd be no stopping it. Everyone with half a brain in the RU army knows that sooner or later they are dead on the front or, if higher up, dead by Putin. Having said that, and looking back at the end of WW2, we hung about one percent of the Germans that deserved it, may be less. But eighty years on it is hard to argue that mercy, even undeserved mercy, was the wrong course. Even bad people mostly behave if you build a good system. So you have to start by asking what will let you build a decent system. I don't know how to fix Russia, not a clue, other than the old joke about I wouldn't start from here. But I do know what Ukraine needs first and worst. They need to the Russians to quit and leave. Now there are two sides of that coin.
