Combat Mission runs in 4K, but there is no UI scaling. Some people don’t mind, some people consider it game breaking. YMMV.

In any case its no longer available. Monitors, GPUs are in short supply and sold out as quickly as they appear. I ended up getting the GHG90 that runs 3840x1080P at 144Hz

I was just pointing that out to avoid misunderstandings that lead to disappointments. Monitor specs are really confusing right now. FWIW, I use a 4k monitor on my desktop.

Between Coof and miners, hardware is becoming worse than it was in late 17+. People were selling those first 3080s for 15 grand and dummies were buying them. Heard hard drives are gonna take a big hit too, something to do with a new technique that utilizes the space on them or some such. Mord. I think gaming and home office have been driving the shortage of computer hardware. Mining on some random single 3080 doesn't earn you any bitcoins anymore. Sure, quite a few people will try, but I think the majority of demand is from actual gaming. There also is increased demand for graphics cards from computation, such as machine learning and molecular dynamics. That isn't hopeless like bitcoin is, and people play with it while at home improving their skills. Think about it: you work from home now. There is a big emotional boost from having a nice computer, especially a nice monitor.
Mord
Yeah, I think the 3080s were actually scalpers taking advantage of the release and the hype. I kinda lumped them in with the miners. The monitor part was actually a joke. It's been a weird couple of years since I built my machine. I got in just before everything went nuts back in February of 2017. Christ, my GTX 1080 is still going for about 300 more than I paid. It never really depreciated. Mord.

z1812
It is certainly weird. I have been looking for a new gaming computer for months and months.....................all I see is sold out and back ordered.
rocketman
I had to wait three extra months for my RTX 3070 but I guess it was worth the wait. Ask me again when I've played Microsoft Flight Simulator and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Ultradave
There is a worldwide shortage of chips of many kinds right now. Many of the newest amateur radio transceivers (SDRs - Software Defined Radios) are also affected and back ordered. Dave

db_zero
There is a global shortage of many items, not just microchips. Basic materials like copper and lumber are seeing shortages, increased demand and price spikes. Many other basic materials used in the manufacture of products are increasing in price. I ordered a new gaming workstation and the new 3080 graphic cards were not available so I had to get a 3070 and will be waiting 3-4 weeks. I also bought a gaming laptop. The ones with the latest AMD processor were sold out. While some models are in short supply and being grabbed fast the high end gaming laptop sector seems ok for now...you may not get exactly what you want however. I think another factor is many made huge money in crypto currency and being technically oriented many are using gains to buy up electronics. I don't have a crystal ball and don't know the future. One of my hobbies is investing and I've been doing it for a couple decades. If you follow the economic news there is a lot of chatter about shortages, inflation, supply chain disruptions and other looming issues. We are also on the cusp of a huge global economic boom where demand for everything is going to explode. I recently retired. I was a security specialist in the IT sector. While I have no special insight or knowledge, I've been buying and testing out portable solar panels and rechargeable portable batteries (240-1000watts). The power grid in the country was designed and built in the 50's. Its way overdue for replacement and overhaul. The Solarwinds and recent cyber attack on the pipeline on the East Coast is what many believe to be just the tip of the iceburg. I've already experienced periods of power outages due to fires and system overload. Texas experienced a massive power outage due to weather. Reliable electricity on demand is something I no longer take for granted. Running a high end gaming laptop off solar rechargeable batteries is practical. The larger desktops with high end graphic cards and other power hungry components is doable on the larger wattage rechargeable batteries, but IMO you're better off sticking to the laptop. Some of the newer gaming laptops while not as powerful as desktops are close in performance and many weigh 4-5 pounds. (However the power brick weighs almost as much as the laptop!) I'm hearing July as the target date for when the run and shortage on computer will end, but in today's rapidly changing environment I wouldn't count on it and reliable always on demand electricity? I have opinions about that, but leave it at that.

I have solar panels on the house and have been waiting for batteries to become realistic in price to invest in some, I have not done any recent research, not sure if we are at the point for in home battery storage, I will have a look again later this year... Waiting for a monitor might be a bad idea due to inflation, and inflation is coming with all the money being printed (In UK and America) so these last two years will seem like good times in the near future... Hope I am wrong....
Artkin
Don't buy anything "battery" until solid state batteries are developed. Otherwise youll be sitting on a heap of lithium in 10 years.... Electric cars too. They're ticking time bombs.

Hope I am wrong.... I have small hand carry portable batteries and they are mainly for emergency use. So long as your expectations are realistic and you understand the strengths and weaknesses on them you'll be fine. Same with the solar panels to recharge them. I'm also satisfied with the AAA, AA, C, D and 9V rechargeable batteries and solar recharging system. Once again taking the time to understand the strength and weaknesses is key. Also its good to remember the one is done two is one theory. Waiting for solid state batteries in fine in theory. However I've already experienced power outages and if something big happens and you're without any power for an extended period of time I doubt you'll be saying I'm glad I waited for solid state technology...
SgtHatred
34" Ultrawide is a real sweet spot for gaming, including Combat Mission, as long as small text is readable to you. I always thought the 49" monstrosity would be too wide to game with.
Erwin
3 hours ago, Artkin said: Electric cars too. They're ticking time bombs. Totally agree. A huge scam imo. When the battery dies in 10 years, the car becomes instant trash (what do you do with all those deadly battery components?) since the batteries are so expensive. And what do you do when there is another of our increasingly frequent power outages? Also all the proponents conveniently ignore the increasing cost of the electricity needed to charge the batteries - building new CO2 emitting power stations? Burning more coal, oil and gas? Or, are we all going with nuclear? Apologies for going OT. But, this electric car scam bugs me.
