Well, you've done some outstanding work describing what's going on!
I'd hate to ask a question which would be a spoiler. Like, "Have you thought about what you'd do if Bil had some units enter behind yours?"

You're doing a smashup job of letting us know what you see and how and why you're making your decisions.

well the game is accurate - it hit in the right hand 634 mm heat entry just below the Turret.

I dismounted most of the German infantry from their Marders in case they could be seen early. Man, those Panzerfaust 3's are large !

But it is an impressive sight as the reinforcements move up

Further orders - since Bil is covering the Dig Site, he doesn't have anything looking down in the other direction due to his protective mound. So I think moving another Scimitar forward would be good

At least one Marder joins the Watcher in the Woods - that's a good position even if the range is a bit too great for useful area fire against Bil's uncons.

Final overview of the bulk of my position - Both Leopards have moved onto the highest tiny mound available.

The increasingly mis-named Sacrificial Lambs roar off towards their next objective. This camera level 1 shot shows how the ground is only slightly lower than the surrounds, but it makes a big difference.

They reach and duck into the irrigation ditch to hide. Their next objective is visible on the right.

Their orders for the next round(s) - dismount and head for the touch objective Ruby.

The AAR isn't dead, nobody panic!
My opponent has been very busy this past month or so, so rate of turns has been very slow. Further, I had nothing to do for the past 10-15 turns or so besides adjust a fire mission, which occurred without incident. There has been nothing to report on.
There is good news however. It is now the 44th minute of the battle, and my combat power has finally arrived!
Later this week I will post a proper AAR post detailing my current situation and my plan for assaulting the airfield. Hang in there, the battle is in its final phase!

We all know damn well we'd hear nothing but b****ing about any recon vehicles BF decided to leave out of the games. We'd have thread upon thread upon thread arguing their merits until Steve broke and they were finally put into the game. It's a non-issue as far as I am concerned. They are there, use them or don't. But BE thankful they exist because having them and not using them is a 1000X better than wanting them and not having the option because they were never put into the game to begin with.

I play online with two FI officers - one MECH and one Tank. Both very talented, very intelligent. Trying to convince them to apply for the US Army Staff College. Both of which would do extremely well there, and would be a good addition / balance to the foreign officers that attend.

    Hey I resent that ! 😎
this thread did look like it had calmed down so whatever you might think of previous posts tossing in troll comments now isn’t going to make things any better. (This isn’t specific for you Rinaldi, but I did have to respond to the geriatrics comment, get off my damn lawn hippy)

    Setup and Initial moves
I'm operating under the assumption that no one is going to see the other for at least the first 30 seconds. So I'm pushing forward fast to reach decent positions from which to observe or cover. 2 Scimitars head for Obj Gold - as you can see, the ground slopes down in that area, so we should be out of sight relatively quickly. The infantry recce team will also be moving towards it from the orchard.
One Scimitar "The Watcher in the Woods" is moving up into a small copse which offers an excellent overwatch position.

Pushing the furthest is one of the German Fenneks - it looks like the touch objectives Diamond 1 & 2 and Ruby will be tough to reach as the intervening ground may be extremely exposed.
So these guys "The Sacrificial Lambs" will be attempting to get there early. If they don't make it, it's unlikely that anyone will until the enemy force is largely neutralised ( which may not happen ). So I'm hoping to grab a quick win with a largely expendable unit ( c3k would be proud ).

On the left flank, the rest of the German recon platoon is moving up as far as the Dig Site. My plan is somewhat nebulous here, but I don't want to leave this edge of the map un-observed.

    Uncons A, B ( not shown ) & C
As you can see, I'm being cautious with these guys - spreading out and moving forward in bounds. Possibly unrealistic, but most of them are conscripts, albeit highly motivated, so I can imagine them peeking around corners, then again, then again and then moving.

We're up against joint US-Syrian forces - how that happened is hard to imagine, but I'm going to go with the US having been bribed with oil money to pull out of NATO and now they're trying to keep our filthy grubby NATO hands off that same oil.
    Feel free to speculate !
I'm going to assume here that Bil will have far better screenshots of the map and its objective areas since he also has mad skills in the photoshop department, so if you're unhappy with what I'm showing or cannot make something out - go read his thread !
Right, so here we have an overview of most of the map, showing our brave UK recon force - 8 Scimitars, a Mortar Fire Controller Team in a Spartan and an infantry recon section in a FV432.
In the distance you can see 3 groups of uncons henceforward referred to as (A), (B) and (C). A & C are infantry and B is a group of 3 armed "bakkies" - that's "pickups" to non-South-Africans.

Eastern aspect of the map showing high ground which is a concern and worry for me. I have named these features accordingly.
Dig site is the "abandoned archaeological site" I mentioned earlier. ( Bil's deployment zone is more or less between Worry Ridge and Obj Garnet )

This shows uncons A & C, but is primarily to give a feel for the map with its many Heights and dips. LoS will be crazy, but at least there will be places we can hide.

    Some close up shots.
This shows Uncons A & B again and more detail of the map. As you can see, the rear vehicle has an SPG9 mounted. Front vehicle has a 12.7mm DShK and the middle a 7.62 MMG.

I was looking for ballpark numbers and hopefully some examples. I have firsthand experience only with Finnish army mechanized forces (CV9030, 2A4). Because of the Finnish terrain movement is constrained to roads (at least in the places FDF plans on fighting). A company might have just one road surrounded by heavy woods on which to advance and have another company trailing it ready move through and relieve the forward company. Max engagement ranges would be no more than 300m and only in the direction of the road. Width of the engagement would be the immediate surroundings of the road. This of course is a extreme case example.

It's my pleasure Alex, and thank you.
I am going to jump into the action tonight and post one or two turn reports.  I'll post the rest of my METT-T analysis as I can over the next few days I but wanted to get some turn posts up as quickly as possible to keep you guys from getting too bored with all the analysis stuff.  So stay tuned for that.  I have everything pre-written, written as I went so it will seem like it is being posted live.   I only need to capture screen shots with the latest BETA build and the posts are ready to print.

I do not think that they advertise the game very well.
