    The following is true for CMSF1 and IMO will probably be true for CMSF2.   There are four sizes of IED: small, medium, large & huge. There are three types of IED: Wire 100m, 10% failure / Radio 300m, requires LOS, 20% failure / Cell phone 600m, 10% failure. IED teams consist of the bomb and the triggerman. To work the IED must be activated and the triggerman in range (if radio LOS also) and not panicked with an undamaged trigger device.  If this criteria is met when the triggerman observes OpFor enter the Action Spot (adjacent AS for huge or large device) the device will detonate. (The triggerman will not detonate the IED unless he can spot OpFor next to it.)  IEDs Cannot be set up inside buildings by the player during setup however there is a trick that will allow an IED to be placed inside  buildings on the first floor by the scenario creator.  I think @Sgt.Squarehead discovered the trick. 
     
    You can see the trigger-man is able to detonate an IED because the bomb's Target order will be available. If the trigger-man cannot detonate the bomb the Target command won't be available.  If the bomb is a dud then instead of showing Medium Radio IED (Activated) it will show Medium Radio IED (Malfunction).
    Each IED comes with one triggerman however I've read on the forum where an IED  was detonated by a different triggerman (not the original that came with the IED).

    Yes, Shilka and Uncon ZU-23-2 AA trucks are a terror to roaming airpower. Plus AA missile manpads are in the game now.
    Oh, now that I think of it, I don't know if US is fielding Stinger AA missiles or not. I'll have to ask around. AA defense has been deemphasized because in theory the Syrian air force has been knocked out (though for QB play Syrian boasts a strong airpower arm). Syria 2007 is not Ukraine 2017 air threat-wise.

    Yes, just like normal vehicles iirc. Give them a target and than hit the gas with a fast move. Ive posted info from manual above.

    Yeah, probably the best idea to wait a while. I am sure it is a mistake and gets fixed asap. Never gotten shipping fees in the past from BF.  I opened a ticket for it.

    Well, I was about to pre order but saw your post... checked my order details for download version only and it says the same, standard delivery charge is $28.
    I'll give it a miss until I find out what is going on... £93 it works out for that bundle. extra on top of that might just break my budget

    It would be nice if the purple line that comes up when you select "Pop Smoke" extended out the distance the smoke would go. As it stands it extends (and says) 20m, which I guess is accurate for defensive smoke launchers but not for these. It could go out the full 150+m to show what'll really happen.

    My clue, again from reading this forum, is that Battlefront is aware that there are problems, but that they can't do anything about them, because they are driver related. As I understand it, they argue that the graphics card companies such as Nvidia do not implement OpenGL well in their new drivers. Probably because OpenGL is not very used any more in mainstream gaming.
    By the way, here's an article I came across, where they compare a modern game (the new Civilization VI) running on OpenGL on a Mac and DirectX on a Windows PC:
    "In our tests, the game only achieved about 22 frames per second during an internal benchmark at 1,620 x 1,050 resolution, on medium settings. We ran the benchmark on a 15-inch MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon Pro 455 graphics card while running in MacOS. The same system hit 66 FPS when we ran the same benchmark on Windows 10."

    By the way, I'm not posting this to belittle mac users, nor to praise PC gaming. I hope Mac users can continue to play the game, too.

    It's not.
    The engine first roamed the land back in the days of the dinosaurs when openGL was the normal thing to use for a game. Driver support for OpenGL is waning, but CM is stuck using it. From what I read on this board, it's because the developers don't have the resources to switch engines.
    In my experience, no. It runs, but not well. Lots of glitches with shading and shadows flickering on and off. Textures regularly seem to get reloaded (?), leading to temporary freezes. Performance is usually "playable" but varies from smoth to very sluggish.
    In short, don't expect miracles in CM from newer hardware.

    Minute 155: Orders
    No new orders are being given. I thought that it would be interesting to see the information flow so the following are some screen shots to show that.
    Starting with the scouts of 15 Platoon. They can see enemy vehicles in their assembly area and they have contacts just outside the ambush zone.

     
    15 Platoon HQ has a pretty good representation of the scouts information.

     
    The company CO has a bit less but still the basic picture.

     
    The tanks in 18 troop have nothing yet. I see, however that there is a break in the comms because they have no contact with E squadron (not on the map). I did not check the HQ tank when I took these screen shots.

    There are three types of air missions: Light, Medium & Heavy.  This refers to the ordnance to be used.  Light = bullets Heavy = bombs.  Medium is a combination which I think may include rockets. 
    For UAVs (drones) there can be up to three types of missions (Gray Eagle) Observe, Heavy and light.  Heavy may fire all four Hellfires.  Light may fire two Hellfire missiles.  The Gray Eagle carries a total of four Hellfire missiles.

    This is precisely why BFC is reluctant to announce a deadline for the release of a product. Something Always Comes Up that delays the release. You can count on it. The one time they were forced to meet an announced schedule (CMSF1) it was a near disaster that taught them much about the incompatibility of their production techniques and deadlines. Hence: "When it's finished."

    I had posted this to the repository at the start of the week and so far it has not come up. I am not sure what is going on but thought I would post a link for anyone who is interested.
     
    This is a small scenario, Ukrainian Special Forces vs Russians. Playable as UKR vs AI only. There are two AI plans for the Russians. I have not tested the scenario for H2H play. It might work and it might be terrible.

    Even though the other BETA AAR is still going on, I expect it will end very soon.  I had already promised to take IanL on in a second game to fill the time, so here 'tis.  I hope it fills the time left until release.
    BACKGROUND
    A NATO attack is in progress and they are making massive gains.  In an attempt to slow them down high command has decided that a spoiling attack is required.  We are the tip of that spear.  Our task is to Probe into the assigned sector on the flank of the NATO attack and determine the strength of the Canadian flank security force in front of us and if possible, destroy it or force it to withdraw.  Our force will not be reinforced unless successful, so if we fail, another unit will become the spearhead for the main attack.
    Hopefully that will suffice to set the stage for what we are doing in this action.  Ian and I are playing a Quick Battle (QB) Medium Probe, with me as the Syrians on the attack, force selection for both sides was Mixed (Infantry, Mech Infantry, and Armor are all okay to purchase) with no restrictions set for either side. 
    I do not expect an easy time of it, as the Canadians are tough and Ian is no slouch tactically.  He even uses some of the same movement techniques I use so I expect this to be a hard struggle
    ORDER OF BATTLE
    My purchases:



    MAIN BODY
    This element will be my main combat element in this action.  They will be tasked with capturing early objectives, ascertaining enemy strength and capabilities, and recovering the enemy Order of Battle.  
    A Company Mechanized Infantry on BMP-2s 
    Company HQ Element Tanks are intended for anti-infantry support ZSU-23-4 is mainly for AA support, but also is intended to be used in an anti-infantry role
    1st Platoon Will have one AT-13 team attached
    2nd Platoon Will have one AT-13 team attached
    COMBAT SUPPORT 
    120mm Mortar Battery with FO Also purchased four TRPs
     AT 13 Platoon One of the two sections will be assigned to the Main Body, one AT team per platoon Note:  truck was purchased specially to carry the remaining section and the HQ element
    AT 14 Platoon One of the two sections will be assigned to the Reserve, both AT teams in the Mech Infantry platoon Note:  truck was purchased specially to carry the remaining section and the HQ element
    RESERVE - This force will be husbanded until needed, or until I can identify the main enemy positions
    Airborne Mechanized Infantry Platoon on BMP-3s Will have one complete AT-14 section attached
    Tank Platoon on T-72M1 TURMS-T Technology Note:  These tanks feature the TURMS-T computerised fire control system by Galileo Avionica.  It will be interesting to see how that helps in action.

    Any way we can get some screens of the new Uncons? It's been 50 days since the screen shots in the CMSF2 thread where Steve said they needed to be fixed. MikeyD has since stated they were fixed. It doesn't look like Bil is gonna have any in his AAR thread, so. I am only asking because I know @Sgt.Squarehead is dying to see them. I don't think he should have to suffer any longer than necessary.

    With the new site finally up we must take a minute to remember our old friend, the Repository, now relegated to the cold dark vacuum of cyberspace. Maybe not the prettiest of spots on the internet, that old ugly wench did her job in earnest, hosting some of the first and oldest of the new engine mods, maps and scenarios. She was the home to my first real endeavors into the modding arena (as ugly as some of them were) and she was the go-to spot before there was a go-to spot. Even though she was cast aside many a year ago for a prettier, younger Mistress, it was nice knowing she was still around if we needed her. And even though she was old, haggard, and hard to handle, she was there with her many forgotten (un-ported) treasures buried in a confusion of broken links and cyber-subterfuge waiting for a visit and a chat. Alas, she has finally and truly given up her ghost, along with many a mod (and perhaps) scenario that never made it to a shinier shore. So, as a new door opens, an old one closes and I say, fare thee well, sweet, ugly, PIA-to-navigate Repository, I salute thee for a job well done! You are gone but not forgotten...well, maybe a little.
    And now a blatant and exploitative manipulation of your emotions...bow your heads and shut your mouths (especially you, Emrys, your Flea Deity commands it!)

    Hello all, I'm back, sorry about the delay in the entertainment. I, at least,  the NHS.
    I will hopefully have another instalment to post tomorrow, although by now I'm sure you've read all about it from the Bil's side.
