Use Fast only if you want your guys to prioritize 'getting there ASAP' over things like spotting, or using their weapons.

I remember seeing a Real time contours map render but only now was a able to find it. Here it is:
    Example: https://contours.axismaps.com/#12/35.3577/138.7331
    Code: https://github.com/axismaps/contours
Any way I glad you guys like it. Though I am not a coder, I do hope putting up coded examples puts this suggestion in the relm of possibly.
As for performance, You could run shading and contours on start then have it as an other layer to be always present or recalled on demand for each view respectively.

these new titles are more difficult imo then the old games. yes its worth it to get one or more of these. cmbn has the most content by far with market garden and a many many user made scenarios. yes its easy go get multi player games. only draw back there is nothing in real time for mp. the maps are way cool the soldiers behave very differently and overall not cartoonish like the originals.fog of war is handled more realistic. like landser said get a demo...they show the games off pretty well

for instance the manuel says that regs are trained but have little combat experience...how this measures in the game BF has that kinda thing classified.      There are a lot of green troops in the ww2 titles because imo those troops represent fresh replacements or rear erea personnel to replace heavy casusalties sustained. the allies just did not have that many full strength regiments with reliable troops as the war progressed.

I've reported these issues and they were acknowledged.....@IanL  Any news at all?
There are also issues with some of the briefings IIRC.....It's a while since I looked at it.
PS - IIRC a JTAC gets the best call times for drones, @MOS:96B2P can probably confirm or deny.

Perhaps but I doubt it will be changed.
If you want to control facing and have a cover arc you can use a wedge arc - the unit will "face" the centre of the wedge. Once the unit is done moving and facing the way you want you can replace it with a circular cover arc.

Do they have any target or target arc orders? Those will make the Face command inaccessible. You have to cancel the target/target arc orders and then use Face.

looks great. I like the depth to it. is that due to the mod or is it a shader mod?

that explains it. While in fact german infantry guns are high angle howitzers mainly used for indirect fires, CM maps are usually too small to implement onboard indirect fire for them. But one can always purchase offboard IG18 and IG33 version from Arty menu. Same for any other longer range stuff like Wespe´s or 120mm mortars (which aren´t available for onmap anyway).

I recall having the same problem in a qb. I think they are for direct fire only. purchasing them for offboard is the only fix in know if possible.

The random maps were awful.....They did generate nice contours though, so if you erased everything else they could be the basis for a nice map.

Spontaneously generated maps was a feature I liked and missed in CMx2, but the maps we have now are all more meticulously drawn and detailed, and sometimes more historically accurate. So at the end of the day, I'd have to say we are better off now. Perfection would be spontaneously drawn maps as nicely done as todays...but that is probably not possible at the present time. So it goes into the distant wish bucket.

Steve's gonna make fun of my observational skills again. LOL.
Check out these pics. I issued some target light orders and the above pics are what showed up. Of course, I knew the green text gave you info about what each guy was doing but I had no idea crewman changed their weapon icons inside their vehicles as they used them.

I always thought those icons were just telling you what small arms they carried and their position within the vehicle, and with the gunner, that he was manning the main gun. That's one killer little piece of immersion. Next time you have a man (or two) in a vehicle heavily wounded pay attention to what the survivor's icons do as various fire orders take place (they could end up popping to all kinds of weapon positions).  All this long time playing these games and I am still being surprised! VERY COOL!

grungar got a reaction from Panzerpanic in Suggestion on how to improve quick battle unit purchases
this bunching up of units in quick battles bothers me too. I think your idea is a good one. I would also like to see a feature for reinforcments. perhaps making them cheaper but can only enter after a reasonable amount of time has passed. this would also help with clutter.

It would also be preferable imo if...when in the deployment phase (in-game 3d wiew) we could click a button on the UI to open a seperate window showing the 'purchased unit list' from the unit selection screen.
This would be kind of an OOB list to help orginazing and deploying the troops.
As it is now when we go to deploy our troops they ALL show up bunched together in...a big mess ! 😉 Having larger forces it can take quite some time to get them seperated and orginazed the way you like them. The set-up zone can also be fairly cluttered with all the troops on the screen at ones.
What i'm thinking is that the 'purchased units list' ( OOB-list) should have its listed units clickable...Only the units toggled on will be displayed on the screen.  This would make finding your desired units far easier when deploying them...
Let's say you have bought a battalion. At first you want to deploy your AT-guns and machineguns....Select those units from the list...and only those units will be present on the screen...making it easy to find them and deploy them. Next...lets deploy A company...Select it from the list and it will show up...ready to be deployed 😊...

grungar reacted to domfluff in hummm patche 4, I need your opinion
One thing that is important to check is what information the squad has on what is firing on them - if they don't have contact markers from the firing squad, they won't know where they're being fired from, so the decision process seems to be "this place isn't safe, get to alternative cover", as opposed to "get out of LOS from what is shooting at us", which they will otherwise do.

That doesn't mean that what you're seeing isn't a problem, but it may not be the full story either, and it can produce counter-intuitive results. Combine that with some occasional wonky pathfinding (that you'll find in any game with pathfinding), and it can create some frustrating situations.

I am in a pbem right now.  I had a team take fire.  They suffered a casualty and the turn ended.  On the following turn I checked what they were going to do, they had a fast retreat through a gap in exactly the direction I would have wanted them to go.  I changed the ending point on the move and let it go.  on the next turn they completed the move as desired.
@Falaise can you provide a save of that turn for it to be reviewed?

Generally in playing CMSF I almost never see that automaton response - CMSF2 has not changed that.  You have a dozen years of technology development between the games so expect to have a harder time versus ATGMs.  You can still spot them pretty good once launched (generally), but you won't see these immediate reorientations of vehicles to anywhere near the same degree.  I am in doubt most vehicles even have a laser warning.  I'll have to go play around and see if I even note that.  Hasn't been something I have seen much of.
heh just watched an AT 13 take out one Challenger (frontally) and fire 4 rounds at another and never get spotted.  Yeah this is a whole different game.

I dismounted most of the German infantry from their Marders in case they could be seen early. Man, those Panzerfaust 3's are large !

But it is an impressive sight as the reinforcements move up

Further orders - since Bil is covering the Dig Site, he doesn't have anything looking down in the other direction due to his protective mound. So I think moving another Scimitar forward would be good

At least one Marder joins the Watcher in the Woods - that's a good position even if the range is a bit too great for useful area fire against Bil's uncons.

Final overview of the bulk of my position - Both Leopards have moved onto the highest tiny mound available.
