    1. It's almost like... people complain about.... the problems with a game engine?

    2. You're absolutely right. If a game doesn't sell. There is absolutely no fault at all with the developer. They just made the perfect little thing, and people just didn't appreciate it for what it was... I'm sure you're avid player of Daikanta right Cpt. Miller? This is like saying that Ford had nothing to do with why the Pinto didn't sell.

As the gentleman with the 30 award review. I just want to say thank you for belittling my intelligence, and assuming that I have no other goal in life but to trash BFC. My review was based on price, age, and toxic community/lack of support. Which this thread did such a great job of doing, (this thread even got mentioned in the comments of my review as an example of the toxicity in my review! Congratulations!).
Why is it so hard for you all to accept an OPINION that in this day and age, the game is not worth $60, and has valid, numerous problems (which I'm hoping will still be addressed, but I don't hold my breath when it comes to great support here).
Now, if you excuse me, I'll go back to playing CMSF2. If you keep watch for a week or two, you'll see I play this game quite a bit. I don't know why though, since I'm "mentally unstable/disturbed people out there who have literally dedicated their lives to trashing BFC "
As for LOS not being a dice roll... fine, what the h*** is it then? Because I'm tired of hearing "well it's abstracted, and the method is a state secret punishable by death and you just need to accept that!" It's extremely crappy given this day and age, and the fact that there are numerous games, who have figured out a proper LOS system. Even the danged youtube videos admit problems with it. If you guys want to keep insisting it doesn't have numerous flaws, I'm more than happy to start making youtube videos pointing them out.
All I did was leave an opinion, which people are certainly allowed to do. Thank you gentleman for making it a personal attack. This is definitely going to get people to love you all.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to nikolai in [bug] US infantry don't know when (not) to use AT4?
I've just got a very frustrating experience trying to ambush enemy armored units with Javelin. I had a rifle team with Javelin hidden inside a building and able to spot a BMP-3 in the distance (about 250 m). As soon as they spotted the vehicle, they started to fire their AT4 at it, revealing their position immediately. Of course, all the AT4 missed at such distance, BMP returned fire and all the team lied dead long before Javelin operator had a chance to fire his missile.
It looks like a bug in TacAI. The only workaround I could come up with is to never give Javelin to a team with AT4, and that is not cool at all...
Actually, according to the patch notes, a similar bug was "fixed" in 2.10. However, in 2.12 and 2.13 I still see rifle teams using their AT4 prematurely, revealing their position and getting wiped out before they can fire a Javelin.

While I'm not arguing with the data, that doesn't seem to match up with what we've seen in recent conflicts.....The Lost Armour site is littered with pictures of tanks & IFVs destroyed by direct hits from artillery (notably 152mm rounds).
I do wonder how much this depends on whether the target vehicle was buttoned up at the moment of impact.....In a conventional stonk, a vehicle crew should have plenty of warning, but with a precision munition, there would be none.
Chain detonation of ERA also appears to have been a factor in some of these instances too.

After playing around a bit with the scales and transform here is the result, vanilla on the left and modded on the right.
You can also note that the vanilla crew is way too far back, which is fixed by transforming the model backwards in Blender.
I plan on releasing the fixes for the 7.62cm Pak36(r) and the various CW 6 pounder guns after I'm finished with them.

we don't yet know what is happening now as this disease has only been here since late November.  The Epidemic of 1918 circled the globe 3x due to reinfection in a world nowhere near as connected as ours.  They didn't even really know what a virus was and their world was already totally disrupted by the war.  This won't be the same for sure.  However to say we are over reacting (and I'm not referring to those idiots buying 100 rolls of toilet paper) by getting people to socially disconnect in order to give our health care system a chance to handle the influx of folks is just wrong.  Think about it - old folks, pregnant women, cancer patients etc etc can't go near a hospital as they could easily die from this.  Respirators are already in short supply with little ability to ramp up to meet demand if the number s rise too quickly.  Yes there is a severe economic cost we are going to pay, no question. The real question though is are we willing to take action and take the economic hit in order to take care of folks, to make sure our healthcare system can manage this?  You ready to risk your parents?  Mine are in their 80s with preexisting respiratory issues.  This WILL kill them.
As to whether to believe that guy - what qualifies him to make that statement?  He has no real expertise, he isn't known in any circles as an expert or viruses or epidemics.  You can get 1% of scientists to say climate change isn't real...so you gonna say you aren't sure whether you believe that 1% versus the 99%?  That dude just spun a bunch of crap with no real facts, WHY would you believe him?

Are you guys F'n kidding me?  You really fall for this clap trap?  Good lord.  The panic and hoarding is a sad over reaction, but the ostrich head in the sand attitude is far worse and more dangerous.  That guy basically spun a web of no real facts and you accepted at face value that yep , all is good this is normal?  wtf??  Sorry, wrong.  This is a serious highly infectious and much deadlier disease.  What next?  The pandemic of 1918 was just another cold season?
At least you guys are consistent in where you go for source material.  Won't be surprised at all to hear you watch Seam Hannity, except now he says he always took this seriously.
In the public discussion of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in early 2020, Wodarg gained notoriety as an interviewee in video clips typically published on rightwing video channels. There he presented his thesis that SARS-CoV-2 was only one of many similar viruses which usually go undetected as part of an ordinary seasonal period of respiratory infections (casually called flu or cold), and that the worldwide activities to stop the pandemic were only a "hype" caused basically by selective perception of researchers.[4] He detailed his thesis in publications on his personal website.[5] His comments on the COVID 19 pandemic caused criticism from German scientists. Various German media examined Wodarg's claims for accuracy and concluded that his statements would largely contradict the verifiable facts, some statements were neither refutable nor verifiable, but on closer examination proved to be misleading.

That is some logic.  If everyone gets the virus at once, the hospitals get inundated, respirators are already in short supply - result LOTS more people die.  Health care workers that would be needed to treat folks are sick.  The mortality rate for Corona virus is well above that of the flu even by conservative estimates.  In Italy the mortality rate for older folks is close to 19% (overall rate is estimated at around 8%)  Flu rate is around .1%.  Might want to spend a little more time reading up on real facts.  The panic etc is in good part due to our leaders spreading false information and our response coming so late.
The social distancing that is being encouraged has one major goal - to spread the infection rate over time to allow the health care community to manage the influx - that's it.  It won't stop the virus, but it might keep our healthcare system from collapsing and therefore keep more people alive.  The alternative and the result of what you are proposing is every country becomes Italy - the comparable death rate in the US if we go though that is about 18,000 people in the space of 6 weeks. (had to correct that, googled the wrong info)

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to akd in Dutch CV9035 "KETF" ABM rounds
KETF works more like old-school shrapnel, bursting well before the intended target and discharging sub-projectiles in a cone forward, whereas ABM in game is treated as AB-HE, a standard HE round timed to burst over the target that is just as effective against a target behind the burst as it is against one in front (well, in reality its not quite so simple, but that is the effect in game).  KETF really needs a unique treatment in the code, sort of like delayed action canister.

I don't have any articles off hand but from my experience:

    Graviteam tactics series:

    - Tactical battles require less micro from the player

Troops are more spread out and you have less control over them. Preventing you from microing units a ton. You tend towards giving sweeping orders and then watching the platoons carry it out. There isn't a ton for you to do during an assault - most of your focus is on getting people in the right place. Once your infantry are moving across the map its largely too late to do much.

For example, in Graviteam its on you to get the assault platoons in position, setup the artillery, postion reserves, and support by fire positions. but once you hit the "go" button you aren't going to be telling squad 1 to break off an anti-tank team to move ~50 meters through a field to engage an enemy tank.
    - Battles feel more authentic

If you read any number of AAR or personal accounts from veteran you'll read a lot of stuff that Graviteam seems to get right. The biggest one for me is that you will repeatedly read about armor advancing even after their infantry support has been pinned down. This rarely happens in CM (to the player) but in Graviteam you'll see stuff like this all the time.

In CM the player has a ton of control, this can be good, but can also create instances where battles feel too put together. Graviteam does a better job of making battles messy.

    - Good campaign system

The campaign system is a strategic map of the battle area where tactical fights are generated by the movements of units on the strategic map. Its fantastic and adds a lot of replaybility to the series. This is the one area where it beats Combat Mission hands down. You are dealing with postioning of units over a period of hours, resupply, recovery of damaged vehicles, etc... I recently had a very interesting Graviteam Tactics game where I managed to win by sacrificing a tank platoon to draw the German Heavy tank unit (Tigers) into a strategic trap.
    - You can get more breadth at a lower price

Graviteam mostly focuses on the Eastern front, but you can find Afghan War, Iran-Iraq, Chinese/Soviet Border War, and various African conflicts. These are all relatively inexpensive. This is something I like a lot as they are conflicts that you rarely (essentially never) see simmed and Graviteam does them.

    CM:

    - More Micro

In CM you can find yourself microing a platoon of infantry and 3 Bradleys to surround a compound that holds 7 Insurgents. And that will be interesting. This makes CM a much better small unit and urban combat game.

I just played a battle in CM where I knocked down a section of wall to give a T-72 a keyhole position to kill an Abrams. That isn't something you could do in Graviteam at all.

    - User designed scenarios

While the campaign system in Graviteam is better, the standalone scenarios and the few "story" campaigns in CM are excellent and Graviteam doesn't have anything like it. There are a ton of them and there are quite a few fantastic ones that really let peoples imagination shine.

    - More WW2 and modern content

if you want to spend the money CM covers more ground both in WW2 and in Modern.

    -----

    Generally I play them both.

I play Combat Mission when I;'m interested in heavy micro or a good standalone battle. While I play Graviteam when I'm looking for a week long campaign or some weird mid-century conflict. They both play very differently and its hard to compare them directly.

Ghost of Charlemagne reacted to Armorgunner in 35mm KETF round, and artillery against tanks
This was a comment made by a danish guy at Stealbeast Forum, about the 35mm KETF ABM round. When the Danes bought the CV9035.
"the keft round is very leathal. we had a coorperation with the dutch army on testing the ABM rounds, so the dutch army had a wrecked leopard 2 that we tested the munition on, and it dented/damaged the barrel enough to make it less usable or able to disable the main gun. along with all the vision blocks, GPS, commanders sights, but as a test against small vehicles or infantry and buildings. its just as leathal. and know taliban didnt like that abm round at least.."
I have no doubt, what he says. After Reading other posts from him. I´m for shure, thats he´s an army guy. And if tungsten splinters from a 35mm, can wipe out all externals on a Leopard 2. I asume, it is an old one like A4. What would 155mm AB do? Or direkt hits? Or Close to direct hits?
Too bad, he didn´t mentioned the number of rounds needed though.

Ghost of Charlemagne got a reaction from puje in CV90 bells and whistles
I hope it's okay to resurrect this thread rather than create a new one on the CV90.

I recently talked to a Danish dude who served on the CV9035DK in Afghanistan, and he told me some interesting things that the game doesn't get right.
    1. The CV9035's Bushmaster III gun has two magazines of 35 rounds each, for a total of 70 ready-to-fire rounds.
    2. The vehicle has an addition 280 rounds (for at total of 350, and not 210 as in the game.) in ammo storage boxes, unfortunately he didn't specify if all of these extra rounds were stored internally or if some of them were stored in the external storage box on the side of the turret.
    3. The extra rounds are linked together in 7-round belts, because of the sheer size and weight of each round - a 25mm round weighs almost a third of a 35mm one.
    4. The magazines can be reloaded from inside the vehicle, and the linked and linkless feed system of the Bushmaster III gun means that 7-rounds belts can be quickly fed into the gun mechanism and linked together with 5 more belt as they were feeding. Unfortunately he didn't specify the amount of time it would take to reload all 5 belts.
    5. Because of the limited number of ready-to-fire rounds, they would strictly use single rounds, or 5-round bursts against high-priority targets like RPG-gunners or suspected VBIEDs.
    6. They had two different automatic firing patterns for 5-round bursts- they could either be fired at the same target or be spread out in a linear pattern.
    7. Even with single rounds they were able to hit targets at distances of several kilometers. He stressed that the CV90s had a profound effect on the Talibans willingness to engage Danish or coalition forces in their vicinity.
