I can recall in the first Alpha playing a quick scenario and immediately noticing that CMCW felt more like WW2 + CMBS, not aligned directly with one or the other.  It was "neer peer" in just about every sense as each side had strengths that offset the others weaknesses, and vice versa.  This relationship shifted over time as one moved from '79-'82.

Ah, thanks for adding a some of the US perspective. My post was from the Soviet perspective and I just realized that the OP asked about general advice.
I agree about the M113s. They are roughly on par with BTRs. Sometimes you have to make do with them and that .50cal can shred a BMP if you manage to surprise one from the flanks. Just nothing to rely upon.

Also I posted a copy of a little FIST Chief handbook we used to carry around. While a lot of it is artillery specific, there's a very good overview in the first parts of Soviet TOE, tactics in the attack, and then some info about US tactics in response. It may be of some help as it's real world information on what to expect and how to respond.

Get the whole FI package when you do. There's a LOT of variety in forces and equipment in, especially in the DLCs, and some great scenarios all around. It's a very different experience from the hedgerows and the steppes!

And if you are the US in '79, just drill into your head that M113s are trucks, nothing more. Don't let that .50cal fool you, unless the Russians don't have any tanks at all, and even then, it's RPG Hell out there. Keep them out of the line of fire. Use them to transport your men to where they need to be. They will die frequently if you try to pretend they are IFVs.
The US in '79 is quite a different experience to the US in '82, which is one of the big premises behind CMCWs setting - point out the big change in those few years. Even in '79 though, when you have thermal sights, you will do well. I agree about the T-64s. Against M60s they are brutal.
I also agree about the effective use of artillery and smoke, but hey, I'm an ex US artillery officer, so I just might be a bit biased 🙂

Ultradave reacted to Vacillator in PBEM issue since PBEM++ was introduced
So in case anyone else sees it, this is for PC-based PBEM players who have not signed up on Matrix/Slitherine for PBEM++.
Getting to the end of a game, and the opponent presses ceasefire or surrender.  Instead of getting the end screen with points tally and map review, you get red error boxes saying you haven't registered an account.  I've had it in CMBN and CMRT in recent games.  One was against my good friend @Ultradave who has logged it as a possible bug bleeding through from PBEM++ into the 'normal' world.
If you do get the red error boxes just click through and do another turn (with or without orders).  And maybe another turn...  Eventually you'll get the end screen.

Great battle that one, @Ultradave and I played it and had a lot of fun.  One of @George MC's fine creations I believe.

Tank has thermal sights: STAY BUTTONED - do NOT expose the tank commander (TC) NO thermal sights: UNBUTTON - expose the TC

Since I started this I'm going to pull my wish list request.  After thinking more about it I realize that I've become fixated on this issue without stepping back and looking at the rest of the picture. In any engagement, unless the mobile asset is extremely mission critical, taking another like asset out of the fight for recovery evolution is rarely done. With mission success so dependent on time, terrain and force assets, taking another mobile fighting asset out of action is going to have a noticeably negative impact on one's ability to win the fight. If you get stuck, you're  going to have to wait till night or the next day for recovery.

We had M561 Gama Goats for our artillery prime movers. People would swear you can't get one stuck, 6x6, super low gear, articulated, swimmable.
We proved them wrong. 🤣  Getting that one unstuck would have greatly exceeded the time limit of a CM game.
Not to say one couldn't be done in the time frame of a game, but in most cases, a lot of your units on the map are under observation/fire. It would be a dicey situation.
    Dave
PS - mostly Goats were pretty awesome, that double low range 6x6 drive could handle almost anything. Almost.

We need them in whatever CW module covers having Abn troops 🙂  Just because they are weird.

Thanks. More than 70km2 of maps to fight over in this Battle Pack. I'm still creating two more smaller maps for two scenarios. Using a lot of BIGOT maps from 1944 and aerial photos for reference. Some master maps will have variants that will also be provided with the historical German Fortifications placed and ready to go. (<-- That took a while...)
As per last year's bones on the pack, geographically the fighting is focused on the Utah Beach area itself and the area heading south towards and beyond Carentan. All scenarios/campaigns occur between 00:05 hours on 6th of June through to the evening of the 13th of June. Don't expect all of them to be brutal slog fests, particularly the D-Day ones where the Allies at times had significant advantages. I'm going for more of a focus on narrative and experiencing that first week coming off Utah Beach rather than slug fests designed for competitive tournament play. (Master Maps are there if you want to create your own matches though). If you play the pack chronologically and come out the other end content and with a greater appreciation of the challenges the forces faced, then I've done my job.
The content in this part of the Normandy theatre, though popular, couldn't be created by BF as part of the CMBN base game given the absence of Fallschirmjager and Waffen SS forces in the WW2 titles at the time.

I had a section chief who, after a phone call with Naval Reactors told us, "10 years from now he won't remember you were late, but he WILL remember if you were wrong, forever."
My favorite boss I had in 38 years at EB. Of course we always tried our best to hit the deadlines, but not at the expense of being correct. It was nuclear submarine reactor plant design, after all. Incorrect is not an option.

There will be a patch, which isn't issued yet, then it will work. The content isn't in the current FB install.
I think there may have been this language confusion with a previous release. The language seems to be written assuming the patch had already been issued.
