    AAR Wittman Demise George MC
Here is a scenario that I have been watching since I got the game.
I opened it, I looked at the superb map, I recognize the places.
But I'm not going to spoil it. Considering the amount of work to achieve it, the quality of the menu and the accompanying documentation, this is a great scenario and like a old bottle of wine, i respects
You have to find the opportunity, take the time ...
I also need to gain experience so that I can fully appreciate it.
I think about it regularly, I look at the pitch every time I pass there.
I open it from time to time to admire the map. I find the depression in the small wood where when I was 16 I found a tiger caterpillar link that I could not take, too heavy on my cycle, one of my big regrets !!!!
Then the big day arrives, tomorrow I don't work, Madame is up to bed, the children too, not a noise outside just the regular purring of the cat sleeping on the chair next to me
I have my plan in mind, a notepad handy. For the 1st minute, as usual, no movement, it's the observation turn, the vehicle pilots are unbuttoned to spot any contacts.
I press the red button and place the camera just behind Wittman who is looking at the battlefield stand up in his turret. I’m Wittman, I’m him, soon I’m going to launch my tigers to conquer the Jalousie Ridge and make history again.
Thirty seconds have elapsed I appreciate the moment… the sound of a hiss of shell, boom, a shell has just burst Wittman has disappeared ! a red cross floats above the tank. No it's not possible: Wittman is hit NO I check he is no longer in the tankcrew, NO
I don’t believe it I check the other tanks everyone is unharmed.
I'm aghast, one dead person in the record, that is Wittman.
I want to start again but the magic is broken, frustrated I go to bed.

Not in Afghanistan in the early days - ICOM radios were the comms means of choice and they were still heavily used after the mobile phone network spread across the country in about 2007.  ICOM is still common today.
As to knocking off Telecom towers, the low tech Taliban method is to find the representative of the phone company and tell them they'll get a bullet through their head if they don't turn it off when directed to do so.  It is a very frequent occurrence and played quite a large part in disrupting the Presidential election in September last year.

BletchleyGeek reacted to ASL Veteran in Battlefront should implement a publically viewable bug tracking site.
You seem to be suggesting that BFC games are some sort of 'open beta' games or something.  That's not the case.  Bug tracking is not chaos for BFC.  Actual software that is designed for bug tracking is used by the company in order to get the appropriate information to the appropriate individuals and the beta testers are charged with providing the appropriate information through the use of that bug tracking software.  While it is appreciated when players find things in the game that may need to be addressed the gaming public has no obligations of any kind in terms of bug tracking.  Customers play the games and enjoy them if they like playing them or stomp around angrily if they don't like the games.  Players can report things or not report things as they desire.  Customers will know that a bug has been addressed when a patch gets released and the patch log is published.  Bug tracking, reporting, and fixing is the obligation of BFC to the customers who buy the game.  There is no obligation by those who play the game to track, report, and fix bugs.  If something gets reported on a public forum more than once or even not at all then it really makes no difference because the public forums are not where the bug tracking is done.  Describing BFC bug tracking as chaos is wildly misinformed.  It may be different than what some are used to, but that doesn't mean that it's chaos.
Leave the bug tracking to BFC.  Perhaps if you get invited to the Beta team some day then you can participate in all the bug tracking and reporting that you would ever want, but for now just go and play the game and enjoy yourself.

    Thanks everyone.
Please don't fall prey to the "simple solution" bull****, like it's all some easy fix -- that's just propaganda so that folks don't have to face the really difficult reality.  Like the lies told last year ("they won't release water from the resorvoirs" - lie; "they sent all the water to the ocean"-- lie).  Classic blame the victims stuff.
Western US had a dry & hot summer following a relatively dry winter.  And recently had very hot w abnormally low humidity, so perfect for fires.  Once fires got going we had many days of crazy strong east winds, driving the fire  -- we almost never get east winds this time of year, especially ones that strong.  Plus lots of lightning.  This is not due to negligence or some lack of effort, it's a natural disaster that came from a perfect storm of conditions.  CA already has a plan w forest service to clear dead wood out of 1 million acres a year (hundred of millions of dollars per year) -- except that there's 20 million acres to clear, at least -- so many years and many BILLIONS of dollars (and that's just CA).  100 years of fire suppression, plus millions of dead trees (much of this due to warmer climate that has caused bug infestations), plus ridiculous weather, and we get catastrophic fires.  We always have summer fires, we don't always have this kind of catastrophe.
Commanderski:  orange skies in NH?  welcome to the club!  that is crazy you have smoke ~2000+ miles away.

I've found that with Teams it will be one guy getting left behind. Whereas with Squads it will be two or three. I've also found that the behaviour is hit and miss, you can play seven or eight missions without it occurring at all, then suddenly you'll get hit by it multiple times in a single mission. Ho hum.

BletchleyGeek reacted to Lucky_Strike in General discussion - Talonsoft West Front question
I have a copy of a version of it, not sure how complete it is or what version it is. Long time since I touched West Front, one of my discarded play things on the way to CM.
I actually have a whole bunch of scenarios, campaigns, mods and data for WF and EF which I can bundle up if you want to browse through some ancient history, not sure what most of it actually is as it's so long since I looked at it, let alone played either. Anyway you're welcome to any of it that you might find useful.

BletchleyGeek reacted to chi-chi in Exciting news about Battlefront and Slitherine
What I find interesting about "realism shooters" outside of Arma is that they all ignore force density to a large extant. I know when playing Combat Mission the force I have relative to the combat area can really determine how I play a battle. A mechanized company on a 1.000 meter wide map is going to see a lot of bang bang as you use your firepower to clear your way. While that same force on a 3.000 meter wide map leaves a lot of room for maneuver warfare.

Then you look at Post Scriptum and there are 80 guys on a 16km^2 map.

RE: Graviteam Tactics. They get the benefits of being a tank sim first. IIRC Steel Armor used that same engine and then they switched to a tactics game.

BletchleyGeek reacted to George MC in Poor editing of mission briefings
So I'm Scottish (yes I know) but even though I speak English (and when with friends use Scottish dialect - I'm a Fifer - that's broad as Scots goes with words like 'eicht' (eight) and 'twa' (two) and 'richt' (right). I've written articles and all sorts published and profession (in my other life). But writing briefings for scenarios is a style in and of itself. My writing has all sorts of idiosyncrasies I'm not aware off until pointed out. though, I'm lucky in that @Combatintman does a bang up job of picking me up on my rather 'variable' use of the English language (and for that I am forever grateful and I'm due him loads of beers, and crisps).
A great many scenario designers are not native English speakers, but man, speaking English covers a lot of variables and styles!
So please cut independent designers some slack. There is no 'style guide' for custom made missions.
In that regard I'd suggest good briefing graphics are key as I think they should give the player a good summary, of what they have to do in the mission (objectives, own force and enemy). Make it pictorial, make it accurate, the nuance comes in the briefing.
I like detailed immersive briefings personally, although I do know they are not everyone's cup of tea, but I do hope the briefing graphics will give any non-native speaker the intent of the scenario/mission.

BletchleyGeek reacted to Combatintman in Bridge bugs are back
My pet theory based on limited testing is that every patch nerfs a proportion of bridges on any given map.  While I am using Beta stuff at present, I have a scenario that had working bridges, loaded the latest beta build and some of them stopped working.  Once the old ones were deleted and replaced in the new build, they worked fine again.  There is probably more to it than that as this is one of those bugs that seems to completely elude all solutions as has been proven over the years.  Just a theory obviously but based on what has happened over the years and as pointed out by the OP and recalling my recent experience, I think there is possibly a correlation here.

Wow, @combatintman - so this is the whole thing. Really looking forward to try this. I have never bothered with total conversion mods, but this is just too good to pass. I'd love to see CM in Indochina / South East Asia. There's plenty of material to explore (the two Vietnam Wars, the Konfrontasi in Borneo). This maybe the closest we ever get to that.

It is a very different type of battlefield (and tactical problems) than what we're used from our European and Middle Eastern haunts.

@BletchleyGeek it plays very similar to the RL battle.  I don't want to give any spoilers but it can be kind of like "herding cats" to keep your troops in the fight.  Then there is the terrain.  The combination of the troops you'll command, the terrain and the H&E conversion will provide a unique, challenging, experience.  Good luck.

Despite being decidedly mediocre for decades Bromley Dave and the Self-Publicists did hit the nail on the head with Rebel Rebel, the guitar riff still sounds great. And the lyrics, wow.

Just tried it too. Yup, you can in fact use this to play coop. Its simple to use too. All you have to do is launch the game, open the steam overlay, invite a friend who has CM on steam to remote play, and boom, thats it. They'll join a live stream and they can use their own keyboard and mouse to control everything you can. Its pretty awesome actually. You can easily play campaigns and battles with a friend now. In fact, I have not tested this but I think you might be able to invite multiple friends as well.
Lots of potential here. And for me, finally some additional incentive to bring more CM titles to Steam!
