Boche reacted to Holien in Fleeing Altdorf - Great Small Infantry Action Scenario vs AI
Just finished this yesterday if you are looking for a small infantry action with a novel scenario Objective this one is for you.
I really enjoyed the narrative and it was a tense game where I managed to win a minor victory.
I won't spoil the events but something turning up at X when I had X on wrong side of the road really messed up my plan...
I will also say that I hate RPGs (unless I have them)!!! The Americans really do not have the same firepower when it comes to these annoying weapons...
The sense of running away was perfectly conveyed...
The minor niggle was trying to learn how to use the camera in amongst the buildings to see the action, I have yet to perfect the view and getting good camera angles...
Thank you to the designer for some fun moments....
Also I would think this might be tough vs a Human Russian Oppo, but it still might be good fun....

C2 is quite important too. For a while now ive dedicated some part of my scenario preparation to establishing and making sure all C2 is green. Say for example I set up the recon platoon on a hill overlooking a town where ive got an infantry company set up. If the battalion commander unit isnt in the field AFAIK the intel isnt passed on from the recon platoon to say the infantry coy commander. What I do is I make sure atleast one member/vehicle of the recon platoon is within voice range of the company commander, so anything the recon spots eventually travels down the member/vehicle beside the coy CO, and then down to the infantry squads...and this sure makes a difference.

    Hello hello !

i'm Bartimeus(active on the FGM forum) and i created a Red vs Red campaign which can be download on the scenario deposit of the FGM : https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-shock-force-2-2/cm-shock-force-2-campaigns/cmsf2-campaign-to-al-hell-and-back-operation-orpheus/

It's my first try at scenario and campaign creation. It's a  Red vs Red campaign, you command Syrian guard troops against unconv troops. The campaign span on 5 missions, all must be win in order to process to the next one. BMP-3 are very powerful but they will not be replace if destroy. You must find the balance between speed and force preservation.
    Background story :
To Al-Hell and back : operation ORPHEUS
A rebel movement lead by a formation named Luwa El-Mumtaz(LEM) was causing turmoil north of the country since months.  Local forces suffer defection and desertion lead LEM to became a real threat to national integrity. The 30th Guard Division, which your battalion is a part of, was send to stop the rebellion. The 8th of may the division was engage in heavy combat in the north when the general Harith Abdullahi Farouq, commanding officer of the 30th Guard Divison, received a phone call from the president chief of staff himself. He was to immediately assemble a task force and send it to Al-Hell on the coast and retrieve a VIP from the government, code name EURYDICE.Your battalion, the third, was the only one available for this mission, you are in charge of breaking through enemy line, extract EURYDICE and bring it back into safe territory further south. The operation received the code name ORPHEUS.
Ammo shouldn’t be a problem, but the further you go, the harder it will be to replace casualties, especially the BMP-3.

Have fun, hope you enjoy it and all feedback are more than welcome(it's my first shot, so I'm sure I have room for improvement, your feedback will be very helpful for that)

+1   But, maybe the short time limits are due to the Missions being (mostly) easy for experienced players.
The 45 minute(?) airport recon mission in particular requires one to literally QUICK move all over the place to recon all the objectives - and the enemy did not seem to detect my units.  This could have been a much more challenging mission had the enemy been able to detect one more easily requiring one to HUNT or SLOW move to reach objectives (and exit) without being detected.
Same for the equally short airport assault scenario.
Ditto the Convoy mission.  After degrading all enemy PU trucks I got all convoy vehicles to the exit zone in one mad rush many minutes b4 the end assuming correctly that uncon inf forces were bad shots.  Only then I saw some more serious Syrian enemy appear in completely wrong ambush position.  BTW:  The forces in the exit zone just sat there and did not disappear like am used to seeing - until I CF'd.  Anyone else noticed that?  Not sure if forces in an exit zone can be fired at and damaged.  Am wondering if it's another bug(?).
The AI has not been programmed to do clever attacks in any of the Mission up to #10 which am playing now.  In all the enemy attack missions all one has to do is find good hull-down positions and wait and press GO repeatedly and watch the enemy rush carelessly into the Challengers' (or Javelin teams') sights.
However, these items are good if one is less experienced and what makes this a good "learning" campaign for new players.

Thing with Combat Mission I've learned is it punishes impatience and rewards thoughtful planning. My very first game I played I thought I could just wing it and successfully rush into a city and take over...that was a bad mistake. Lost most of my armor and my team was wiped out. You have to be careful with how you approach a situation.
Also, if battles were so easy to conquer, why does it take on average 250,000 bullets for every enemy killed IRL: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-forced-to-import-bullets-from-israel-as-troops-use-250000-for-every-rebel-killed-314944.html
It's not easy. War is freaking hard. And Combat Mission does a good job exhibiting that difficulty.

    OPERATION "OPPORTUNE STRIKE" MINI CAMPAIGN
The date is April 06, 2010. For the past winter, Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8222 (callsign Dagger 22), along with Afghan and International Security Forces have been taking on the Taliban in the secluded Bala Murghab valley, in the north of the country. Their mission: prevent the enemy from launching their yearly spring offensive. Just 2 kilometres south of Bala Murghab disctricT center lies the town of Daneh Pasab, Taliban controled territory and logisctical hub from which the  offensive will be launched. After several months of work, the pieces are in place for a final blow to destroy the heavily entrenched Taliban force, breaking their grip on the valley and stopping the spring offensive before it even begins. A US ARMY Special Forces ODA and an Afghan Commando strike team have been flown in to assist with the operation.
The campaign will consist of two missions. The first will be the night assault on the souther part of the village, while the next will be a continuation of the assault towards the north with more support assets. Your performance on the first mission will determine the strenght of the enemy in the second.
Right now i have mission 1 ready for testing and am starting to work on mission two.
    Updates will follow!

There was a forum sw update from the provider the other day. There were some issues that were being ironed out. I hope what you are experiencing is temporary. Perhaps try again once the black on blue quote colours have been changed - that's one of the problem that was being worked on.

... if you forced me to be overly nit-picky I'd say the reinforcements came pretty late... but, as those troops were likely smoking hashish or something, that's not exactly unexpected.

German and US is APHE.  British is AP solid shot (or unfilled AP).  In theory, APHE should generate a smaller number of larger fragments that have higher penetration and travel further, so you’d really need to do some extensive testing versus HE to determine a difference in outcomes based on range from the burst.

Since its summer, im on leave and do not have much to do but rush through CM scenarios, im finding myself about to play the “My Honor Is Loyalty” scenario in CMBN and thought id do a Little AAR to well…pass the time. Also I enjoy rading AARs. I learn alot from what tactics people use and I like to see how different people aproach different scenarios. I hope it will be mildly entertaining for you all too.

There's a large open map night battle scenario in the Marine module. I forget the name. Marine M1A1 HCs versus T90s. For fun I went into the editor and monkeyed with the Red AI plans. Slowed down the battle, gave T90 units overwatch protection while bounding to new positions, let the units sit in place  long enough for them to start acquiring distant targets. The scenario changed dramatically from a shooting gallery for Abrams into a desperate fight for survival on Abrams part. T90 has the stuff to take on Abrams... in the right circumstances, if used correctly.

By the way, if anyone has struggled with the scenario I need to hear your input as well. It is hard to balance a scenario properly if only people who win hands down comment. Maybe Boche is some sort of retired ninja navy seal and after his mini aar I will beef up the difficulty level or say add more mines since he didn't step on any. But maybe another person has had a different experience and spent the whole battle playing a twisted version of the Hurt Locker movie without the blast suit on and is going to scream bloody murder at the thought of me adding more mines. You feel me?

    Yes smart play.
Actually I did just that in Afghan Roulette. If you go say east, there is a chance some of the Taliban combatant groups on the west side of the map will move to the east and vice versa to engage the player from another direction. Here it was trickier to do with the way I set up the AI groups. I'll try to add more of that in my next scenario. Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice Boche. I like the annotated graphic in the second picture with the path you took etc, makes it easy to see what you did. That's very interesting and useful for me. And also cool little story about the rpg gunner. By the way how did you use the F16? Point target right? And you encountered no IED or landmine?
It is funny because I just finished replaying it myself and used a different avenue of approach than in my previous tests and at first everything was going fine. Then 5 minutes later an ANA HQ steps on a mine then a second squad panics and piles on the HQ detonating another mine, a pickup gunner gets shot and it all went pear shaped real fast. I went from thinking it was maybe too easy to too difficult in the span of 5 minutes. Depending on what AI plan you draw it can vary quite a bit the result.
I don't know how you use spoiler tags.

Well that was a good little scenario! Going to put in a litte AAR:

    Here are my end results.

Not bad. I dont recall having that many dead, some of the wounded must have died later on. 2 of the dead casualties where on the way to the actual objective, one from a sniper shot to the head, another from an RPG shot to the face. The rest of the wounded and dead where suffered on the last assault on the objective due to the entrenched enemy. Our first dead man caused on the of the most interesting revenge stories i have seen in CMSF.
This was my main scheme of maneuver. I decided to do a right hook since i wanted to capture both of the 2 story+roof buildings in A and C to serve as OPs for my fire support teams and observers, to provide me with good overwatch as I moved in:

A squad took over overwatch positions in A as the other platoon moved accross the field towards B. They came under sniper fire, which was quickly located as coming from C. The said squad returned fire. The sniper changed targets and managed to head shot the RPG operator from said squad.

His neihgbour, the PKM gunner became angry and shocked at the sudden death of his friend, decided to do somthing about it. He took the RPG from his friend cold dead hands and loaded in a rocket. Fired....damn a miss, but close. He aimed again and fired, hitting the enemy snipers position spot on. a 300m shot...not bad for a green squad. He was to carry his friend RPG for the rest of the mission but sadly did not score any more kills.

The rest of the platoon hopping from B to E saw small contacts but easily dealth with with long range fire power and suppresion (all enemy contacts marked with a red X). On the way i took sniper fire from the middle of the map and decided on a quick and short mortar attack using personnel rounds to clear the roofs (marked with a purple X). it was all a bit too far off to attack directly. I refrained from using the air support unless i really needed it or found a very difficult point to attack.
As i attacked F i received fire from both F and G and it became clear it was going to be harder. a lone but very stubborn RPG gunner was dealth with in F after very heavy suppresion fire. After F was occupied the squad there recieved RPG fire from close to G,  killing another soldier.
I decided to lay low, concentrate an assault platoon at F, air strike the buiding in G (gold X) where i was taking fire from, the attack marking the start of the assault.

Breaching my way in soldiers on overwatch on F took casualties aswell as the assaul force attacking the last compound in G, where i found several enemies entrenched in the last house. After trading fire for more than 2 minutes without success, one of my guys threw a grenade right into the enemy building through the door, managing some kills and allowing the squad to obtain fire superiority. The building was assalted the next turn and secured, with 0 seconds to go on the clock!

In all i enjoyed it! I liked the troop composition and the enemy placing. Could have done with maybe another 20 mins added onto the clock, but in all thumbs up ! Thanks for the scenario 😁
PS: I cant seem to find the spoiler system for the forum, has it changed?

             White Flag and Greenhorns
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Description :
This is a fictional scenario loosely based on real events, pitting inexperienced units of the Afghan National Army against Taliban combatants taking place somewhere in Helmand Province around the year 2012, shortly before the ISAF pulled out of Afghanistan. The ANA can't rely on ISAF forces any more and has to conduct its own operations with US advisors just tagging along but not taking an active part in the fighting. Hopefully the might of the US Air Force is still here to lend a hand when heavy resistance is encountered.
The map is based on my Afghan Roulette scenario, it is a cropped portion of it, much smaller with a few tweaks.
There are 4 different randomized setups for the Taliban.
Play as Blue attacker against Red AI. I think it could also work versus another human player but I haven't written a briefing for the Taliban side (yet).

I have (very) vague memories of the CMSF original but the CMSF2 update was certainly different.
I gave it a quick spin...
... the Syrians have a lot of advantages & one bad move can lead to horrific losses.
It's tricky but a hell of a blast.
