I like that video. It would be nice to have the 2S1 122mm SP gun on-map in the modern CM titles at some point, as the video states that they were to be used in direct fire against ATGM's. Could throw in the 2S3 as well...
I suppose the Soviet tanks' smoke laying capacity would be too hard to code, but it seems like such an important capability for them.
Kind of funny that the Soviets get some frightening Stravinsky as background music and the US Army gets a sort of wandering porno jazz theme.

Funny thing is, I don't think I ever actually noticed that before, but my vote would be to leave it collapsed, because about 99% of the time you see it, it's on the guy's back.

A geeky part of me want to see the technology go all the way to at least 1996-1997.....So I can then play out all those fun scenarios from one of my fave RPGs, Twilight:2000.

This is a great account by a vet who had quite a few jobs in the Red Army but ultimately wound up as driver-mechanic in an SU-76 and worked his way up from there. His account gives a superb picture of serving in them, operating them, life in the crew, including combat, killing the foe and being killed by the foe, too. He was wounded, became a Su-76 commander and had quite the unexpected end to his war, too. One of the things which really stands out is how stealthy the critter was in first gear--practically noiseless, whereas he says the clattering T-34s could be heard from 3 kilometers away. Battery frontage in the defense was a kilometer.

Looks like the vehicle never reached the waypoint to which the arc was assigned. Multiple waypoints in a straight line along the backing up path may, possibly, have prevented the vehicle from going so badly astray.

Honestly I am so grateful for the reduced price for previous owners of the game. $35 to bring the who deal up to engine 4 is not a bad deal, I mean we're getting on board regular/vehicle mounted mortars and the updated QB force selection. That right there is worth the money to me. It's also the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back, and getting new stuff whenever I can.

Hi, George MC. Thanks for the info on BFC's status with this. I had used, and faced, this vehicle in the game without really noticing the field of fire, until I had to rely on it as Flak. If it ever does get fixed by BFC, I think it will turn out to be a very popular and versatile vehicle.

A co got a reaction from Bud Backer in What do you do with Limited Ammo Mortars?
One thing these little mortars can do, like any mortar, is drop a shell into a foxhole, trench, or depression, where bullets can't reach. The possibility of treebursts is an advantage too. If you're facing these kinds of cover, you can save the 2in mortars for that.
With a bit of luck they pack a punch as well- I've had complete four man teams wiped out by a single 2 inch shell hit.

2 inch mortars are good when their larger parent unit is present, with vehicles carrying extra 2 inch ammo.
I normally use target light because the continuing danger to the enemy is more valuable to me than taking out one of his teams with a full 2 inch ammo load.
They're good for harassing or attriting targets hiding out of sight behind hedgerows. I save them for targeting valuable units like HQ's and spotters.
I don't count on them to pin the target, but to make the opposing player feel the location is unsafe and have to move away.
In a current battle I'm using them to prevent the enemy from having a safe jumping-off line for his infantry assault.
Of course it's best to avoid using them at long range, as their accuracy suffers.

Also you can not assume that the enemy vehicle spotted your BA-64 from a distance and intentionally drove up to it to shoot it. The AI doesn't have the ability to 'stalk' its targets like that. Probably it made its move for its own rigid AI reasons, and spotted the BA-64 only when it got close.
That said, I don't blame you for being surprised and frustrated at the situation.
For my part, I just accept these unfortunate incidents as gaps in the alertness, judgement, and reporting by my troops. After all, in the real world they'd have to see a contact well enough to make sure it wasn't friendly anyway, before engaging it, and we don't usually complain about the lack of that limitation in the game, or about the absence of ground to ground friendly fire incidents.
The consolation is that the enemy suffers as much from fog of war as you do.
