dpabrams reacted to Amedeo in Soviet use of ISU-152 assault guns during the CMCW timeframe
Yes. The "liquidators" were the people (military and civil) tasked with "dealing with the consequences" of the 1986 nuclear accident. Among other things, it was deemed necessary to drill a large hole in a wall to let a large draining pipe pass. Using "normal" devices to drill the hole would have been too time consuming, given the level of radiations, hence they thought an ISU-152 could approach and rapidly "blow" a hole in the wall with a 152mm anti-concrete round, limiting crew exposure. They tested this concept with a wall distant from the contaminated site and it worked well. Unfortunately, they found that the hole was too small to let the pipe pass, and they dropped the idea althoghether. However the assault guns were not sent back but were used as bulldozers.

Well, as far as I know, until the late '60s early '70s, ISU-152 were still to be found in frontline units in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. I mean tank and motorized rifle divisions, as one can see in this 1971 photo depicting an ISU-152 column of the 16th Guards Tank Division:

I presume that their role was mainly direct-fire support. Indirect fire was possible (as it was already during WW2) but the peculiarities of the gun installation (closed top, relatively cramped space, limited elevation, few ammo etc.) clearly made this AFV suboptimal in the SPG role limiting range and sustained fire capacity, although one has to say that ammo capacity was increased already with the ISU-152K (from a 20 rounds to a 30 rounds loadout, IIRC).
Later (from the mid '70s) ISU-152's in units near the German border, were typically found in separate tank and tank-destroyer regiments and training units, as can be seen here in this video from a GSGV veteran (1972-1974):
Reading a few veteran's comments on the net, my understanding is that these independent units stationed near the Inner German Border equipped with obsolete or obsolescent AFVs were assigned the task of driving to nearby prepared positions, in case of a surprise NATO attack (!), and basically die in place there, buying time for the mobilization of their comrades. The explicit "not a step back attitude" was confirmed by a former company commander that said that in its unit, equipped with IS tanks, the machine were crewed by a three (and not four) man team, because, once in place, the driver simply had to stop the engine and go into the turret to act as loader.
And yes, there were still IS-2M tanks in Germany until the mid '70s in these "blocking" units. According to some veterans of the 119th Separate Tank Regiment, IS-2s were discontinued (i.e. shipped back to the USSR) in 1976 and the unit acquired T-55s that were, in turn, replaced by T-62s in 1979.
I don't know whether during the 1979-1982 timeframe there still were ISU equipped units with the GSVG in East Germany. For sure, there were units in the Soviet Union still using them, as the previously posted photos show. It's confirmed also by a table contained in a 1982 CIA report:

I might add that I remember reading somewhere that the remaining ISU assault guns were intended to be used in special urban assault support units in the second echelon, tasked with reducing pocket of resistаnce in bypassed West German urban areas, but I can't give you a reliable source now.
Speaking about the LCUs, yes they are "Tapir" (NATO: Alligator) class ships. One is the Aleksandr Tortsev (bort 399) the other is the Tomskii Komsomolets (bort 072).

dpabrams reacted to The_Capt in Combined Arms ??
This title is probably the high point of what land combined arms was capable of, beyond that we move into AirLand, then Joint and now multi-domain battle.  So the use of infantry, armor, artillery/rocket, along with enablers such as AT, AD and engineers are pretty much central to all the core content we have developed.  The game is capable of armor or infantry only battles, we have been beating out the Light Inf orgs recently and I am really liking the M151 TOW, but that is not the core design intent.
We actually go beyond combined arms and lean heavily into AirLand as airpower is also in just about every scenario (I say "just" because there are exceptions).  So CMCW takes the player to the doorstep of the digital battlefield but no onto it (even with limited EW).  It is about as Combined Arms as one can get before the environment and events forced that definition to change.

March to Glorious Victory Post Number One.
So Bil and I have a loose-agreement (I would say gentlemen's but that is probably a stretch) to not peek at each others threads.  The dirty truth here is that this isn't really an AAR per se, it is more of an IAR (In Action Report).  Full disclosure, we are only about 6 mins into the thing, so I can't really put a spin on my plan or anything because I have no idea how this will end.  So far so good  but we are in early days.  We should start posting turn summaries tomorrow but for now may I present an end-product of about roughly 32 years of military training in both line and staff positions...The_Capt's glorious Mission Analysis!
So here we are on this grubby little peice of West German real-estate (seriously, Pete Wenman is a freakin wizard with these maps btw) facing off against what I am sure are overfed, overpaid and over-entitled Yankee capitalists all huddled in their vehicles waiting for something to happen.  So like they taught me back in the day..let's start with terrain:

So my guys are coming from the bottom, Bil and his jerks are up near the top.  I have a bunch of woods except for this defile behind a hwy bridge that I have to deploy my main force out of.  We have a big valley between us and the town of Dollbach in the center which is the golden goose we are both lining up to grab, whilst killing the other guy.  Not much to see on my map edge except a bunch of woods with some dirt roads cut through them.
Bil has the high ground ridge up there and there are three major wooded areas that him and his ilk are no doubt hiding out in.  It is more one on the left but pretty much that approach along with the Valley is dominated by Bil's thugs.  In short, this is not an optimal starting position.
Bil's Plan.  So I have learned some time ago that you are not fighting vehicles and equipment, you are fighting a person (Capt's rule #1).  So spend time understanding and getting inside the head of that person.  With Bil it is easy because we have been sparring in CM for just about 2 decades now.  So here is what I am thinking, that Bil is thinking:

So Bil is probably going to be cautious and build a nice path to victory here.  First he is going to put out Eyes in those woodlines, then he will reinforce with teeth because why stick his neck out if he does not have to?  Then once I have watered the West German countryside with my blood (and other fluids) he will make his reach for Dollbach (Hands...dirty, old, wrinkly hands with yellow fingernails).  I will be at a significant disadvantage at this point because I will be dead, and you do not fight so well when dead (Capt's rule #2).  So my role here is to play peeky snipey from a really crappy position with Soviet gear that does not see as well as his sexy US optics...hmm...Capt no-likey, no likey...one bit.  So now the Plan:

My end goal is to make Bil more dead than me, not to get heavily invested in the West German real estate market.  So we are going to try something simple and blunt.  First, I will get Eyes on my woodline, gotta see what I can see (Capt's Rule #3).  Then I am going to put out hands...fingers really, to make it look like the land grab is my only game.  Then once my art start dropping (could be wait here cause he has EW turned on), I am going to bull rush that corridor and swing up into those hills to kill Bil (Teeth).  This is going to be tricky and I am going to take losses but I can afford them.  I get a MIC FSE in 5 and another Tank Coy-ish in 10, so I will have mass because I am betting the best he has is an Armd Cav platoon, maybe two.  So basically we will play Bil's snipey peeky game for a bit, push recon out into that town to make me look desperate and then freakin charge on the left.  Questions?

Depending on CM:CW related decisions, I'd be happy to work wth you in 'modernising' the lot.....My 'LZ' campaign is modern(ish) anyway, 'Invasion' on the Delta map is partially laid out and TBH I'd probably rather do 'Mardi Gras' in the new engine as it actually has the tanks we need (the M48A5 may be overarmed, but it's a s**t-ton closer than our current candidate).
TBH most of our current scenarios (with notable exceptions from @Combatintman) would become irrelevant if we were to take the 'historical' option, which is a lot more open to us with CM:CW, for all the reasons we have already discussed.

Virtually every vehicle still uses @dpabramsmods.
Euroscape is the true progenitor for H&E... It's also the primary reason why I've tied releases to new content.
Only (IIRC) three dedicated Euroscape scenario's were made (although as @George MC pointed out the mods can work for one campaign & a few other scenarios).
When the "People's Beta" is released we will have five campaigns & at least a score of scenarios split between the two eras.

    Ugh, that movie 😁
Just remember that movies are meant to entertain, not to educate. Especially comedy's. Don't read too much into all that.
In CMCW the Bradley comes in its own TO&E formation, and the dismounts are the 6 man teams they were in reality. The player doesn't have to do any annoying splitting or cross loading, all of that is taken care of by the TO&E.

Cool, glad to hear it. As most of my knowledge of the Bradley comes from the movie ‘Pentagon Wars’ I have to ask, will we have to split sections up to fit them in the vehicle? I hear they were designed a bit strange lol

One important factor to consider is nobody on either side has body armor. Which shoves the conflict more in the WWII direct. M16A1 would match CMSF2 Marines M16A4 of course excepting they're firing over open sights, not through optics. What's the range advantage of the long rifle over the carbine, something like 150m I guess? M60 is 7.62mm so its pretty much comparable to M249 lmg. Add to that, an eleven man inf squad instead nine and M16's toggle to go full auto (M4 carbine in CMSF2 doesn't) and you've got more punch-per-squad than CMSF2. Closer to the beefy-beefy Marine squads I suppose.

TOW 2 was later, 1984/85 iirc? Don't quote me on that. The M901 in game has the I-TOW, which is still quite capable.
I believe this is generally correct, but there was some spill over. Plus I'm sure you know how organizational things are, they take time and tend to be a bit messy around the edges. The game timeline ends right before J series really kicked in, but we still wanted to include the M1 and M2s/3s, which were in Europe in small numbers by 82.
Always room for future potential here too.

You are correct. Soviets get anti-personnell bomblets for artillery and some fearsome aircraft-dropped anti-tank submunitions but not dual purpose. There was considerable debate and internet-scouring to get it right.
